The juxtaposition between the upbeat happy melody and the melancholy lyrics about depress really makes this song a true work of art.

This is an amazing song about crippling depression and being far away from your loved ones or friends as people that can help you. It's a fantastic display of how someone tries to put on a happy appearance while their tormented inside. I don't know what it is about songs where the point is depression, but they're always my favorite ones.

It's the idea of likeing something morbid, you know it's moraly questionable, yet we find them the most intriguing. It's easy to write a happy song, but sad songs take care, love and precision, usuly a feeling the artist has felt before.

I can honestly say that I never had a clue what this song was about! I loved the beat, it seemed like fun song. How ironic, coming from someone who suffered from depression for most of my adult life 😕. Now here I am at the age of 71, going on 72, and here's the kicker~I no longer suffer from depression, and haven't for several years~go figure! Merry Christmas!

It's absolutely impossible for me To listen to this song just once. The lyrics and melody are just to addicting. It's Still as great as the first day it came out. This 90's music era (as far Rock, Hip Hop/Rap, & R&B) was so dope, there will never be another one like it. This song is a beautiful master piece IMO. Genius work.

Heard this for the first time yesterday (Sunday 4th September 2023). A flight from Toronto to Calgary, for a family holiday to Banff. I'd had the Air Canada music channels on, after an episode of Young Sheldon, and Rocky. Up all day flying from Manchester (England) to Toronto. The channel said 60s and 70s music, Stingray Music, but this played. I liked it.

Living in the ghetto and realizing my environment and family wasn’t the best in the 90’s I love hearing this on the box channel back to back them tears held me together no rain no pain stay focus on your higher self made me realize the world fucked up because at that time I learned about race... how y’all not happy I was like life is not fair Idk where I was going but I wanted to run far as I could forever... not living in the ghetto today but it was a long journey one of the first songs outside of rap that made me feel something.. I felt alive and understood

Little Children, listen: can you hear it, coming as from afar? Time is running out. Turn back! Seek balm for your eyes, ears, hearts and minds. It is the Word of God, Jesus is the Messiah, turn to Him only for your salvation! Learn to love, sisters and brethren, you who are near and you who are far; listen and pay attention? I asked myself, where is Wisdom? (Job 28 , John 1:1, John 3:16-17) Hear what I'm telling you, Ezekiel 37:14-15. Awake, awake all you Hungry, all you Thirsty, seek Salvation unto your souls and be reconciled to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Son of the Most High and -only- God! Thanks for listening to someone like you, little children.

I remember hearing this song on a blank cd I had found in my uncles truck one time. I must've been about 7 years old. I always skipped it for some reason. I ended up losing the cd somehow at one point some time after that but Id always catch myself humming the guitar melody on the intro every once in a while. To the point that I had to find out what it was called. I didn't know the lyrics though due to me always skipping the song before it got to the 10 sec mark. Anyways, about a couple years ago I was working nightshift at a gas station and it came on the radio. I pulled out shazam and felt very satisfied at finally figuring out the name of this song.

I have nothing to say in reference to your comment. I was just thinking about how your comment is 10 years old. And now I’m reading it. It’s virtual graffiti.

Lol, duh. Just realized what "blind melon" means. Melon is old slang like "noggin" for the word head. So, there basically saying "blind mind".

Actually, "blind melon" is what the lead singer's father used to call hippies. None of the band members knew why, they just liked it.

I remember hearing this song years ago. It's like someone in the comments said earlier this song never ages I'll never ages. But it just happened to click back into my memory banks when I heard it being used for a truck commercial . So naturally I had to learn how to play it play it. It's easier than I thought and I can't stop playing it

I've been listening to this song for well over a decade, and only now have I realized that the lyric was "I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today". I always thought it was "I'd like to keep my cheating stride today". I guess you hear what you want to hear. That's part of the beauty with 90's grunge and alternative rock :)

Shannon was a good guy and sadly, lost to cocaine overdose. People, drugs are not the answer to life's heartaches! The lyrics to the first song he wrote is on his tombstone: "I know we can't all stay forever, So I want to write my words on the face of today and they'll paint it".
