The reason the audience is so 'chill' is that was being recorded by the BBC for radio and TV, and they were told to keep quiet and still to ensure a good recording. It is being filmed in a TV studio

No that’s not true. It was considered cool in the early 70s to just sit and listen to what was then considered’serious’ rock music. College audiences would sit cross legged on the floor, maybe nodding along in appreciation. Maybe at festivals you’d get the odd isolated ‘moondancer. Jumping around and dancing and waving at that point was mainly for pop fans.
@tofersiefken
@tofersiefken 10 ай бұрын
The main reason the audience is seated and quietly stoic is because it was a live recording session, and the studio mics would pick up crowd noise. Audiences were instructed to remain silent and still to preserve the cleanest audio signal for radio and television broadcast.

Well, I wouldn't say they've retained their legend status AS much as Zeppelin or Sabbath. For one thing, they've gone thru so many different iterations, whereas the former have not. Of course the "classic" lineup in the video here makes for one of the most magnificent set of rock musicians ever assembled!

Hello from the Netherlands. Thank you for your nice comment on Child in Time by Deep Purple. When I was a teenager in the late 60's and early 70's my favorite groups with the songs Deep Purple-Black Night/Child in Time, Black Sabbath-Paranoid/Warpigs, Led Zeppelin-Whole Lotta Love/Stairway to Heaven The Who-My Generation and Iron Butterfly-Inagaddadavida were the first singles which I bought at that time and still have, with my first earned money. These groups were, say, the forerunners of heavy metal. I am now 70 years old and still listen to this music. In recent years I like to listen a lot to contemporary metal such as Nightwish, Epica and Metallica. Greetings from the Netherlands from a Metaloldie

Surprisingly, they are quite big in the rest of the world, only the media in the US ignores them for some reason, there are countries where they are bigger than Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. And how can one ignore Ian Gillan (vocalist) who became the inspiration for rock vocalists like Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford or Eric Adams and practically became the creator of metal vocals. After all, he was the first and best Jesus in rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.

@@Ray-mb3vf I do not understand what are you talking about. The fact that Deep Purple is very popular and loved in many countries of Europe, Asia and Latin America is a fact, and in some countries of these parts of the world they are more popular and loved than Led Zeppelin. And the change of line-ups has nothing to do with it, today they still have three main players from the most important line-up, and the change of line-up is the fate of each group who has lasted longer than 10 years. True, Deep Purple started doing this earlier, but what can you do, their name at baptising is Roundabout, and whatever you call a boat, it will float.

I think the reason is that Gillan quit Purple in 73 when they sold most albums in the world and 75 Blackmore left and started Rainbow. And Purple quit in 76. While Zeppelin and Sabbath continued and grew bigger. And also Purple had to cancel US tours due to sickness. Mark II reunited in 84 and Purple hasn't stopped since then.

Deep Purple is amazing, and in the 70's and 80's they were iconic. They were constantly played on rock'n'roll radio stations and their songs were always in the top 10 or 20 greatest songs lists at the end of the year when stations would poll listeners and take a weekend to do the countdown. If it was a rainy day we'd throw on albums, have a listening party and Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Doors, The Police, etc were considerations on how we felt that day. Today, it feels like there's so much modern music that songs like this are just forgotten. Glad you enjoyed it. We always enjoy the honest reactions. It reminds me of what it was like when I heard a great song for the first time being overwhelmed by how incredible this song is. I still remember as a kid thinking "how does someone write a song like this?" I still think that. Incredible.

In some concerts Jon Lord (RIP) the keyboardist, actually rocks the organ onto its back feet and used a knife stuck into the keyboard to gain extra sustain a sight to see.

Ian Gillian, one of the best Voices in the 70th even perhaps today. If you really want to hear the best Male Vocal ever: Steelheart, I never let you go and She's gone, that knocks your Shoes off

Deep Purple were part of 70's Unholy Trinity with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath all from the UK. Ian Gillan was the original recording artist of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar although never in the stage show Checkout his Gethsemane on KZbin. The high note was not originally in Lloyd Webers music sheet.

This is an anti war song from the Vietnam War era. It’s about how young men trying to do the “right” thing go to war shooting at the world wind up killing innocents in a far away land. These guys then need to watch out for the bullets coming back at them. Read the lyrics with this in mind please.

The Group, TRAFFIC, singing "THE LOW SPARK OF HIGH HEELED BOYS". DEEP PURPLE, The album "MACHINE HEAD" 1973 the whole album. Singer Ian Gillan, Guitarist Richie Blackmore, Bassist Roger Glover, Key Boards/ Organ John Lord, Drums Ian Pace. Gillan played Jesus Christ, in the Broadway Play / Rock Opera "JESUS CHIST SUPERATAR". I was thinking because of his great vocal range. If would like to give your ears a listen. The song is Gethsemane / I only want to say. Oh by the way DEEP PURPLE were a big deal back in the year 1973. Other classic songs by them. "HUSH", "MY WOMAN FROM TOKYO", "HIGHWAY STAR", "MAYBE I'M A LEO" , "LAZY", "SPACE TRUCK'N"...

First record I ever bought was Deep Purple "Black Knight". Second was Black Sabbath's "Paranoid". "Child in Time" still sits in my Top 10 Favourite songs. Can I suggest you watch Chinese singer Hua Chenyu doing "Nunchucks" (not in my Top 50 Hua Hua Performances but gives a fun intro to SOME of what he does.. Rock, Rap, Reggae, SynthPop, Pop, Ballads, Accoustic, Broadway, Electronic etc). For me Hua Chenyu is the best performer on the Planet now. This is visually.. 😱😳🙏😍 His "God Tree". kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXPNpIKcq9qGmpY

The reason nobody mentions Deep Purple is the giant corporate music HYPE machine has chosen to ignore them. They are part of the Unholy Trinity of 70's Rock along with Zep & Sabbath.....but Purple have not received the same media coverage as the latter two. Purple was the biggest band in the world in terms of sales and concert receipts in 1972 to 1974....but they weren't the critical and media darlings that Zep and Sabs became. Last laugh....Zep and Sab are done, gone, just a memory. Deep Purple lives on to this day, still putting out albums, still touring.
