Notice how Starlight and Stellar Flare have similarities like Sunburst and Firelight. Firelight and Sunburst both like books and history. Starlight and Stellar are both natural leaders who think they know whats best for their people/town. "I've got plans for this little town, BIG plans"; that sounds like it could have came out of Starlights mouth at one point. They say you end up attracted to those similar to your father/mother lol

I love how much the townsfolk become invested in the soap opera that is Starlight and Sunburst's relationship with their parents. This is probably the most entertaining thing to happen in town for ages. If the parents ever do visit in the future I hope the whole town follow them around and just spend the whole episode sitting in the background, eating popcorn and enjoying their favorite live drama.

Because she is the villain that surrendered without being defeated and fans hated such easy pardon, so the authors mader her suffer for two seasons from the rest of cast because 'deservedì her (plus her 'suffering' and irritation' amuses us) and her character maintained a cynic and self deprecating behaviour thx to that. Plus even if reformed, we love see her acting as punisher or breaking of social conventions like rules and princesses ' etiquette

I actually thought that the map calling them to sort out problems between them and their parents was fine, but also made me wonder why it didn't do it for Rainbow Dash and her parents. But then, I did remember Rainbow Dash's line in that episode where she did say that they were very close and that she does love them. Even if she created a problem later on, she did fix it moments later.
@zencyn46826 жыл бұрын
There's also the idea that the map only makes a call if the problem can cause real harm to Equestria. Such as Spike's possibly starting a war, dying communities in Manehatten or even a generations long feud destroying nature itself. Tho that doesn't exactly fit with the previous map episode, but then again I don't think that deserved to BE a map mission. Hell, Twilight was the one who solved it, like, 2 secs after hearing the problem. The CMC just did the leg work afterward.
@michaelmcjunkin13726 жыл бұрын
I think Twilight just showed them the picnic BUT Sweetie Belle did end up getting an idea upon seeing it. and it was a good idea so technically the CMC still solved it. Though I do honestly think the cutie map idea is no longer as fresh as Season 5
@zencyn46826 жыл бұрын
They told her what the problem was, he can't choose what world to live in. She then responds with "Who said he HAD to choose?" Twilight solved the problem right there, she just didn't spell it out. Pretty much the episode comes off as "we need to try to make the reason the CMC's here valid". Honestly, if it wasn't played off as a map episode, I'd have no problem. Twilight was already going there so why not just use a different reason. The CMC want to see what Mount Eris is like so they get permission to go with Twilight then find out about the problem while Twilight off doing her thing. There, simple.
@Gokuvstheworld6 жыл бұрын
My guess is that here, there really was a "friendship problem" between both their parents, so by the map calling for Starlight and Sunburst now, they was able to solve both that problems their parents had as well as their own issues with them, so this like a "two for one" In the case of Rainbow Dash and her parents, if Scootaloo wasn't around or didn't know what was going on, then the map might've stepped in, and probably call for Scootaloo. But it wasn't needed
@linkonar78236 жыл бұрын
Not really. Twilight may have presented the idea of the necessity of him choosing, but the CMC ultimately concocted the resolution on how to show Terramar's way of thinking can be put to rest AND while also rounding up a way for both Hippogriffs and Sea ponies to stay closer with the whole "land and sea" picnic get-together which was never really established beforehand. In a way the CMC did actually fulfill their roles, only with a bit of guidance from Twilight. That's the thing, there's a difference between ultimately solving the problem and giving a "hint" as to suggest what could be your next move towards solving said problem.

I think Starlight's dad *does* know about what she did. The showrunners realized how tired it was getting of always referencing Starlight's past, so they just nodded towards it instead. At least, that's the impression I got.

Applegeek's reaction is up! _WHY AM I YELLING?!_ =D Unexpected to see Sunburst being called by the Map, especially since he doesn't live in Ponyville, but it's great that he's paired up with Starlight for it. These two are so cute together, as Starlight is with Trixie. They can both be pretty adorkable at times, and they're old friends. And this really solidifies Sunburst as a member of the Mane cast, something he achieved, I feel, from his role in Shadow Play. And I so approve of a Discord map mission, especially if Trixie's involved. XD Also great to see a return to Starlight and Sunburst's old home, and to finally have it named: Sire's Hollow. (That freakout over the reveal of it was excellent, XD. ' _DEFINITELY check!_ ') And, of course, we finally get to meet their well-meaning but overbearing and embarrassing parents. Starlight's dad Firelight's obsessed with the past, including the coddling way he treats Chipmunk Chee-um, Starlight, ^^; (but who can blame him? Starlight _is_ cute. =P). Sunburst's mom Stellar Flare's obsessed with the future, and makes plans for him for everything, without letting him have input on his own life. Those obsessions were reflected nicely in the split in Sire's Hollow itself: preserved vs. modernized. Honestly, I don't know what's worse: the 'view-only' books (Twilight would freak if she knew) and the rock-solid bread (my teeth aren't perfect, but compared to the ones on those ponies in that picture? YIKES), or the aggressive perfume spritzing and cheesy-voiced gate. A proper balance is what's needed. I do see what you mean by how it didn't really get resolved, though, since we kind of skipped over to the real problem without seeing the fix on the town made. It looked on the surface like their argument over Sire's Hollow was the friendship problem, but they got over it way too easily. In fact, Starlight and Sunburst letting them know about the mission only got them even more fired up, wanting to help their kids without really understanding the issue, and driving them nuts in the process. Either it's going back in the past to find a root cause, or trying to make a problem yourself. 'I think I liked it better when they were fighting'. Hey, just be glad they're not obsessing over the pair of you being a potential couple. XD. And yeah, Starlight seems to have gotten her obsession with the past (and her maturity issues) from the way her dad raised her. While perhaps Starlight and Sunburst shouldn't have snapped at their parents, I'm amazed it took them that long to finally let it all out, and things needed to be said, though perhaps not so harshly. And, as it turned out, their strained relationships with their parents _was_ the problem. Who'da thunk? And apparently less appealing than stopping a war, lol. Still, I definitely see some parallels between their issue here and what Rainbow Dash went through with Bow and Windy. Good thing they were able to make amends, and with some good justification from Firelight and Stellar Flare for their behavior. Firelight wanted Starlight to feel safe after the troubled times she went through after Sunburst left (and I do agree that it doesn't seem like he knows about what she did in Our Town), and Stellar Flare didn't want Sunburst to feel lost after he flunked out of magic school. They really mean well, but they just needed to tone things down a notch or two and accept that their kids are grown up. Also, as you said, it's not easy to confront your parents, but don't let issues you have with them fester for so long. Even with the prospect of their 'road trip', I think things are gonna be all right for the four of them from now on. I do wish we knew what happened to Starlight's mom and Sunburst's dad, though. Not to mention, Starlight's old room. Glad you did a play-by-play on it. Looks like Glimms went through a rebellious teen phase before she left home. Hilarious, but also fitting. Nice to see that she still liked kites when she was young, lol. And that bat-wing pony plush? Very intriguing indeed... Still a sweet, heartfelt episode. =)

It's going to be something better. 1:11 Carrot tip. 1:15 Agreed. 1:19 Question: Why don't the crystal ponies have their crystal textures anymore? Was it too difficult to constantly animate them that way? These days their only distinction is the white hexagons in their pupils. 1:21 That smile. 1:30-1:37 Sunburst is distracted. 1:40-1:44 "Winums Guide to Magical Archona". 1:48-2:04: Applegeek's reaction. Also, Sunburst is distracted again. 1:52-1:57 You said it for me, Applegeek. 2:04 Another map episode already?! And it's Sunburst?! Clearly, there are no limits on who can be summoned. 2:04-2:30 Applegeek's reaction. 2:21 So de we. 2:24 We don't know, Sunburst. 2:33-2:38 Applegeek has no idea whether this is a checkmark moment or not. 2:42 Haven't we always? Seasons 5-7 always had at least three. 2:48 You'll see. 3:04 You have to look very closely, but; hi Mrs Cake, Silver Stream, Ocellus, Bon-Bon, Gallus and Amethyst. 3:06 Why are you calling her Chiffon Swirl? I know it's her maiden name, but still. 3:11-3:36 The throne room is on the top floor? I never knew that. 3:12-3:20 Applegeek's reaction to the title. 3:23-3:30 You said it for me, Twilight. 3:36 Starlight is glowing too. That makes this her second map mission. Also, that look on her face. 3:36-4:02 Starlight makes us think she's not happy to go on a mission with Sunburst. But it's "where" that's the problem. Also, Appegeek's reaction. 3:55 Sunburst's face. 4:03-4:13 Applegeek's reaction. Now he definitely knows it's a checkmark moment. 4:14-4:21 You know the map doesn't work like that, Spike. 4:49 Starlight's ear perking up. 4:50 Those eyes. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 4:51-5:04 I can actually kind of relate to this. My mom always used to get on my case about getting a new job, among other things, and it almost made me resent her. 5:04-5:12 Starlight comes up with a plan, then instantly claims it will fail. 5:23 Applegeek is excited. 5:24-6:23 Starlight and Sunburst discover their home is a lot different to how they remember it. 5:26 Sunburst runs into a gate. 5:29 What's a "gated community"? 5:35 Automated voice. 5:41 Essences. 5:53-6:00 Those lines. 6:06 "Sires Hollow Development Committee." 6:18 Smoothie Store. 6:21 Who Applegeek? 6:28-6:32 The town is split right down the middle. 6:37 Others may disagree, but I'm not too fond of those ponies' designs. 6:39-6:57 Applegeek and I have the same reactions. 6:43 "Sires Hollow Preservation Society." 6:58 You're right, Applegeek. I'm sure she'd have a heart attack if knew what was going on here. 7:00-7:03 Oh my gosh, that's her dad. Isn't it? 7:01 "Sugarplum." 7:03-7:11 Applegeek's reaction. 7:04 Starlight's face. 7:05-7:09 Cheek squishing. 7:06 "Cutesy Wutesy" 7:09 Most definitely. 7:17 "Pumpky Wumpkin." 7:19 Applegeek's reaction. 7:20-7:23 The way she says that line. 7:24 How did he do that? Does he know Pinkie? Also, Starlight's face. 7:24-7:31 "Chipmunk cheeks." Also, Applegeek's reaction. 7:32-7:38 And that's Sunburst's mom. 7:36 So Starlight's dad is called Firelight. 7:43 Sunburst's mom tries to trim his bead. 7:52 Those eyes. 7:56 And Sunburst's mom is called Stellar Flare. 7:58-8:07 That's what so many viewers thought, including me. But... 8:07-8:14 Two ponies growling like tigers. 8:08-8:14 I just knew the parents were going to say those lines. 8:23 Starlight blowing her fringe. 8:31 Funny, but, again, you know the map doesn't work that way. 8:47-8:51 Well I guess so, but... 8:52-8:58 Applegeek and I have the same reaction. 8:58-9:11 Applegeek gets it. 9:17 Those smiles. 9:19-9:34 Worst-library-ever. 9:34 I'd love to see something like that, too. 9:41-9:45 I think that's the point they're trying to make, Applegeek. 9:44 Stellar Flare's smile. Also, that pony drinking a smoothie. 9:47-10:01 More essences. 9:55-10:01 The sales pony almost blinds Sunburst. 10:03-10:07 Technically, they do already. But you still need to eat actual fruit to stay healthy. 10:07-10:14 I agree. From the looks of it, they don't taste very pleasant. 10:11 Yikes. 10:15-10:25 Applegeek's face and reaction. 10:18 Double yikes! 10:20 Yes, I do like crust. But I also like keeping my teeth. 10:26-10:38 Sunburst and Starlight really drive home how annoying the gate is. 10:41-11:01 Well that was easy...too easy. Applegeek agrees. 10:45 Applegeek asks a question and then immediately gets an answer. 10:48 The sales pony trying to force her essences on others. 11:02-11:10 Yes, Stellar Flare. Twilight doesn't decide the missions, the map does. 11:10-11:15 The classic "look at time" (when you're not wearing a watch) excuse. 11:17-11:24 Starlight and Sunburst realise there must be a different friendship problem to solve. 11:27 "Puddin." 11:30 Good question. You'll soon see why. 11:31-11:36 Starlight's face. 11:36 Sunburst tries to sneak away. 11:40-11:45 It's not a job! 11:46-11:51 Stella, that's offensive to anyone with stuttering problems! 11:46-11:55 Applegeek's reaction. 11:52 Sunburst neighing in frustration. 11:57-12:06 Applegeek and Sunburst make good points. 12:07 He's doing it again. Are we sure he's not related to Pinkie? 12:07-12:22 Starlight is mortified by the thought staying longer. 12:09 Starlight's face. 12:11 "Punky Wunk." 12:13 Starlight's face. 12:15-12:22 Wow - looks like Starlight had some interesting teenage years. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 12:23-12:35 I hate to admit it but they're right. 12:30 That's a very good question. I'm not sure if it's ever answered. 12:40 Both parents already have plans to help out. 12:44 That line. 12:47 That pony's design. 12:48-13:12 Applegeek thinks The Parent Map will follow the same plot as The Parent Trap. 12:53-13:02 This feels like something Twilight would do. 13:11 "Hun Bun." 13:18-13:33 Oh my god, SERIOUSLY?! What's next, is he going to put her in a bonnet and diaper? Also, Applegeek's reaction. 13:24 Also, that "bwanky" has a kite on it. I guess she really has always liked them. 13:35 I've just noticed something: Sunburst's design is quite unique. Not only is his nose more slanted than other stallions, but his hooves have distinct white tips. Aside from his mom, how many ponies have we seen like that? 13:39 Wow - that was some good quality face animation right there. 13:41-13:47 Good question, Applegeek. 13:47-13:56 Tell her again, Sunburst. Thank you. 13:58-14:32 Stellar Flare orchestrates a made-up friendship problem. 14:02 Stellar Flare's smile. 14:13-14:18 Your "natural scent" is... I'm not sure I should finish this sentence. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 14:19 Stellar Flare's face. 14:21 Three consecutive sighs. 14:34-14:42 Exactly. Sunburst and Applegeek are right. 14:36 Stellar Flare's face. 14:41 You surprised me with that. 14:42 Stellar Flare's mouth. 14:51-15:04 I seriously doubt it. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 15:01 "Silly Filly" - that sounds familiar? 15:13-15:20 You asked a good question, Applegeek. Just how old does Firelight think his daughter is? 15:30-15:41 Ouch. Also, you might be right, Applegeek. 15:36-16:40 Starlight and Sunburst meeting everypony in total private. 15:48-15:53 Because it's a library. 15:53 And that too. 16:06 Starlight and Sunburst hunching. 16:08-16:18 Makes sense to me. 16:22-16:30 Except Starlight's dad. 16:24-16:29 Applepsychic. 16:33-16:38 Very good questions. 16:39 I think they already changed that law. The librarians said earlier they were selling the books now. 16:41-16:51 How does that make sense? 16:52 Applegeek makes a good point. Also, Starlight's face. 16:56-17:01 Yeah, Twilight tried that once. It didn't end well. 17:08 There it is again. That face animation is practically movie-quality. 17:10/17:13/17:22/17:24 Starlight's face. 17:30-17:34 Umm, why did they switch sides between shots? 17:43-18:16 Sunburst and Starlight express why their parents are driving them crazy. 17:53-18:00 That's a fair argument. 18:10-18:16 Starlight's face. 18:22-18:27 Close, but not quite. 18:30-18:42 Starlight and Sunburst realise what the real friendship problem is. And they're not happy about it. 18:43-18:52 Fixing a problem between royal sisters, fine; stopping a war, no problem; making up with your parents, impossible. Also Applegeek's reaction. 18:48 It could be. 18:49-20:04 Starlight and Sunburst talk to their parents. 18:54 Firelight's lower lip. 18:55 He's cleaning the board with her "bwanky". 18:56 "Miz Glimmer." 19:09 I think most of us are. 19:28-19:34 Stellar Flare realises how bad the essences really are. 20:05-20:16 Starlight and Sunburst explain how friendship missions work. And why they were sent. 20:24 "Sugar Bun." 20:27 Many it seems, Applegeek. Also, Starlight's smile. 20:27-20:36 Firelight explains why he always treated Starlight like a filly. 20:36-20:46 A touching moment. And you're right, Applegeek. I'm not sure if we'll ever find that out. 20:47-21:10 Another touching moment. 20:55-21:03 Stellar Flare explains why she always insisted on making plans for Sunburst. 21:11 Mission accomplished. 21:19-21:25 The townsfolk getting teary. 21:30-21:34 I'm afraid not, Stellar. 21:44-21:51 That's an interesting point. 22:10-22:23 Oh no. 22:23-22:30 Starlight/Sunburst: "Train, hurry and get us out of here!" 23:16 I'm pretty sure they did, Applegeek. It just wasn't the focus of the story. (See my other comment for after thoughts.)

I have a theory about how the map operates; I think the map is omnipresent across time and knows everything that has or will happen in the MLP universe/multiverse (Remember, the map's power not only gave Starlight's time travel spell the ability to go anywhere, but to anytime as well, including alternate timelines). With that in mind, it' easy to deduce how the map calling ponies works; It already knows which problems will solve themselves and which problems need it's input to be solved. Even when the ponies it calls aren't the most logical choice, it calls them anyways because it already knows that in the future they get called by it and end up solving the problem. It just follows the timeline already set in stone in it's future sight. This alse explains quite a bit; -Why did the map send the CMC on a mission when the problem was mostly solved by Twilight when they asked her? Because it already knew them arguing would be what would draw Twilight's attention to the problem. -Why did the map called Spike for a problem when it's involvement made things worse? Because it already knew that Spike getting more stressed from being called at that moment would be what sets the pieces for solving the problem, even if it did make things worse in the present. -Why did the map call Starlight to fix things using magic in A Royal Problem, when Starlight's character development at that point was focused on not doing so? Because it already knew that Starlight would give in to her frustration and that the spell she would cast would end up solving the problem. -Why did the map destroy Starlight's time travel spell only after she was done using it? Because it already knew that the timeline would be okay and that the adventure would set up the correct circumstances for Starlight to be reformed. TL;DR The map knows all. There is no escape from it's omnipresent sight and incomprehensable plans, no matter how hard you try to fool it.

Perhaps the batwing pony plush was from a legend about Nightmare Moon. She dose have those bat pony like guards. It’s just a thought, but it’s a possible explanation. Perhaps the goth culture in Equestria admired Nightmare Moon As well? Also an explanation for the crystals could be because she was already trying to find a crystal that could hold a cutie mark. Again, just a thought.

I was thinking about the crystal she trapped Twilight and Spike in during the season five finale. Could be the results of early experiments with that spell maybe?

Applegeek, I can't wait to see your reaction to this episode (I'm at work right now). This is one of the few episodes that has been on my personal wish list: getting some sort of back story on Starlight Glimmer. While I can't say I definitively got that, we did get some glimpses into Starlight's childhood and formative years, along with some answer as to whether or not her parents were aware of what she was going through. This was a very interesting episode and I am very happy that we got it!!! :)

You'd be surprised how far back town histories can go. A few years back my town's history club compiled a very good 333 page text book on the history of our town. They started with prehistoric and the forming of our local geography. I will add that this is partially due to us living on the South Wales coal field, and we are a post-industrial mining town, so I suppose it does play a part in that later on. They also covered the Celts and Romans who inhabited the area, although not quite where the town is located today.

Also, I could never understand why people get so confused about the part where the librarians "complain" about how that one pony won't buy their book, and how Firelight was in the library reading. Obviously, since both those scenes took place *after* Firelight and Stellar made up, it stands to reason the whole rule about not touching the books was revoked.

20:29-20:33 I know this may be a weird place to put my commentary on this certain moment, but I have theories, and I must speak them when I think them. So... Starlight, at this moment, gives a face, that I know that to many bronies and pegasisters, is seen as the regret of her past actions, but I see something more. If my theories are correct, Starlight's mother is dead, as is probable for Sunburst's father as well. And I've thought long and hard about this headcanon and think that it's time I share it with the brony community. Here it goes. (First part is in alignment with my theory about why Starlight and Flurryheart look so similar and is self-explanatory in this context) When Cadence gave birth to Starlight, she was young, inexperienced, and not ready for a child. So she left her with her father, Firelight. Cadence and Firelight were only in love for a short period of time, not nearly long enough for them to consider a long term relationship. So enter Bluebell Swift, a feisty Pegasus pony with a passion for love and a kind heart. Bluebell and Firelight fell in love immediately, and after a while, Bluebell met baby Starlight and learned her story. She promised that if she and Firelight stayed together she would take in Starlight as her own daughter. Soon enough Firelight and Bluebell got married. Starlight being so young didn't remember a time before Firelight and Bluebell were together and the couple never told their daughter of her true parentage. Bluebell loved Starlight with all her heart, caring for her as her own. She gave her may nicknames, including but not limited to: My little star, little starlight, baby star, and little kite-master, but she most often called her her little shining star. Soon enough Bluebell pursued a position in the Royal Gaurd of Canterlot. She was outstanding at her job, so good that she was promoted to Head of the Royal Gaurd. She was part of many important battles, even getting an equestrian pink heart of honor for being the main force that aided in a victory against a rivaling army. But one day, she went up against a threat like Equestria had never seen before, Queen Chrysalis and the changeling army. After the attack, the changelings were kept a secret by Princess Celestia and the Gaurd. Celestia feared that Equestrians would fear each other if they knew of this terrifying threat. However, the main reason that the Guard won against the changelings was because of Bluebell herself. Bluebell faced Chrysalis head on, Sending her back to the changeling hive, but she as mortally injured in the process, shot out of the sky by Chrysalis and her guards. She died in a hospital three days later, Starlight and Firelight by her side. Starlight begged her not to go, but she knew it was too late. I imagine this happening less than a week after Sunburst leaves. a year before Starlight gets her cutiemark and three years before Starlight leaves.

Well...here it is folks...we finally got a glimpse into Starlight's childhood...and it didn't disappoint. We learned that Starlight went through an "Emo/Edgelord" phase; her father did nothing to address the problem she had other than smothering her and reminding her of why she was so miserable in the first place by bringing up her childhood memories; all along it was actually Sunburst's mother from whom Starlight(Probably) got her control freak...tendencies...and her beliefs to (What was the line?) use her talents to solve her problems. Wow. So in reality, it was the fault of Stellar's(Was that her name?) fault for supplanting the belief that it was a good idea to rampantly abuse your talents and skills(In Starlight's case, magic) to get whatever you want. So Starlight's rampant habit of abusing her magic without fully ever putting thought into it was all Stellar's fault.
@titanhades43316 жыл бұрын
It would make sense. If Sunburst and her were really close, Starlight probably saw a lot of Steller. And if her own mother wasn't in the picture, Steller would probably have ended up the female role model she would pick up things from... Poor Starlight..
