It's unfortunate that the last interaction Grand Pear ever had with his daughter was when he abandoned her at the wedding....his daughter died remembering her father as nothing more than someone who yelled at her and tried to force her away from the one she loved most. They abandoned/ left eachother and never had the chance to make amends. Buttercup died before she could hear her father say sorry..... this show is deep man.

Yeah, and unfortunately, stuff like that happens far too often in the real world, because people can't get over their anger at much less important things. That's what makes this episode so real, and there's a great lesson here for people who are at odds with their families.

So I can think strait without feeling sad about thinking or talking about the subject matter even in this cartoon. I am getting sad now and better stop texting this comment before I can't sleep. We can only hope that their deaths was a quick and extremely stressfull event [fire, falling, eaten]; so they did not have time to reminisce painfully on things like this... -> It was probably "crushed by a big boulder"... given: a) How quick Applejack was on saving Twilight from an avalanche back in "Dragonshy" [S1E07]. b) The double helmet Applejack put on Applebloom back on "Somepony to Watch Over Me" [S4E17]. c) The fact that an earth pony like Pinkie Pie could be killed by one like in "Maud Pie" [S4E18]. d) Same thing as (c) for a military attack done by mindscrew crystal ponies in the alternate timeline of "The Cutie Remark - P1" [S5E25]; (since besides fosilization/fracturing [S3E02], is aparently the only known way to kill a little pony).

Indeed it is. This is perfectly representative of things that happen in real life though. Unlike the Hooffields and McColts, which is practically a parody of a feud, this kind of feud is a very real thing, and I can only hope people who are the outs with parts of their family will see this and try to work through their issues.

@tmap927 жыл бұрын
Uhh...it's kinda painstakingly obvious that they passed away...There's been all sorts of clues and hints to it. And to look at it, you can see Pear Butter and Bright Machintosh (that's their parents's real names) right in all three of their kids--Big Mac definitely got his dad's figure as well as his temperment, AppleBloom definitely is Pear Butter as a filly, especially with the point where she knows what makes every pony unique (we can thank Mrs. Cake for that discovery), and Applejack is the ideal mix of the two of them, not to mention, we can now see that the hat she wears could actually be her dad's hat if it's not just one similar to it. Going off-topic: In hindsight, Take a look part 1 of the season 6 finale...in the scene where we found out that Twilight, Spike, and the rest of the Mane 6 had been kidnapped by Queenie's minions--before that it showed a disguised Applejack eating a pear....before we just assumed that this is how we know she's a changeling...So now that we have seen "The Perfect Pear", that little Easter Egg with Applejack eating a pear was a huge foreshadowing for somewhat later in the show. Damn that was brilliant of the writers for that!!!!

The one thing I like about Granny Smith, was that even though her daughter-in-law was not an Apple and is a Pear, she still accepted Pear Butter as one of their own. It’s not easy to accept an offspring of your enemy. But love is stronger than hate.
@Conorator9 ай бұрын
Granny Smith only didn't want them to be a couple because she didn't want to have to bring the families too close together. The Apples and Pears were enemies, and while the two outliers were perfect for each other, bringing the entire families together would likely lead to disaster. But Grand Pear on the other hand just absolutely hated anypony from the Apple family, no matter who it was, and saw it as an act of treachery for Pear Butter to marry Bright Mac. When Grand Pear and the rest of the Pear family left, Granny Smith was able to accept Pear Butter as a family member, because it meant she wouldn't have to deal with the entire Pear family all the time. And the entire reason she got too upset to speak is because of how horrible it is to abandon your daughter simply because she's in love with a pony you don't approve of. And for all that time, to never once come back to apologize, or at least see what has come of your daughter that you abandoned so long ago, says a lot about how petty and inconsiderate of a pony you can be. Grand Pear has been redeemed, but he is too late, his past will always come back to haunt him, and he will never be able to have closure.

An hour long video? Oh boy, oh boy! Here we go! I love this episode! It is more then likely my second favorite episode of the series, my favorite being Amending Fences. (Amending Fences just hit me on a personal level). This kind of story isn't new, it basically is Romeo and Juliet. Star crossed lovers whose family can't stand each other. But it's just a plot point that may be so cliché it just works on so many levels. And for MLP FIM to blow this kind of plot out of the water for me and make it amazing; well that is just great to see. It made me cry so much the first time I had watched it, and even watching it now still gets me teary eyed/and even crying. The Apple parents are definitely dead, the hints before this episode with the series, the hints in this episode, plus the line they left something to remember them by, that just sells it to me. Plus everyone acted in a way that you would if someone you cared for was dead, yeah there's no denying it. Talking about old times, and the like. I can't see anyone having any doubt about them being gone after this episode. (Unless some people are just in denial). Such an amazing episode, love it so much! Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD. Also congrats on 10K! You deserve it!

The first time I watched this episode three days ago, I was both really excited/anticipated. However, I'm going to be honest, I did know that Applejack's parents were going to be in this season before the episode because my stupid self saw a Dr. Wolf video talking about it. But it's okay because the only thing I remember after watching that was the fact that they were going to be in the show and not their names, which that was a relief. Also, when I heard that Felicia Day and William Shatner were going to do voices for MLP, I was guessing it was going to be in this episode, and in the end I CALLED IT!!! Except the thing is that I was right when I guessed that Felicia Day was going to be the mom, but I was wrong about William Shatner playing the dad. But it's totally fine, they did a great job anyway. I want to say that this episode is down right not only the best episode of season 7, but in the whole series when I first watched. I love the writing, the character connections, the song was sweet and beautiful, and overall this episode is professionally perfect. Like this should get nominated for an Emmy, Annie, or whatever award, it's just perfect. This is personally in my top 5 list. 10/10 And one last thing I would like to say is that Applegeek, I was really excited to see your reaction to this episode and in the end, it was worth the wait and I approve it as a 10K Sub Special! I did promise myself that the moment you have reached 10K subs will be the moment I become one of your subscribers. And good thing that moment happened before this video because I could have never picked a better time. So with that being said. Congrats on 10K Subs Applegeek! I mean they put the most effert into this one episode. I really think they should do this more often. they need to tell the story a lot better in other episodes. Because some others in this season where so bad because of this. Oh and my first favorite song that blew to the top in a matter of seconds. Because this kind of music is my favorite kind of music to ever existed. I have heard all sorts of songs that had this kind of music. they where never bad even the okay ones where so good.

16:33 best song in the entire series! This song represents everything great about the songs in MLP in that they convey emotion through music and lyrics that make them great and memorable. Not some out of nowhere song that can be removed and it would affect nothing. This song is everything that a musical series song should be.
@applegeek25977 жыл бұрын
Indeed! It's definitely in the top 5 for me, and once I have some time to really let it sink in, might very well become #1 for me as well. It's definitely the #1 sad/bittersweet song in the whole series, above hits like I've Got to Find a Way, Celestia's Ballad, A Changeling Can Change, and so on.

It is a fun show for so many reasons, but it does hit on some serious issues at times and I appreciate how you acknowledge all the feels it brings up when addressing those. Managed not to cry through the first watch. Second watch? Totally blubbered away. Thanks for all you do. Kudos from Alaska.

Applegeek Thank you for your reaction of this episode. This is very honestly beautiful and so much emotional to me. It reminded me about my grandparents both passed away seven years ago and uncle who died last year. I look just like my both grandfather (his face) and uncle (his round chin). They now very special because the develop center company gave them a great statue and a tribute for what they've done for years. I truly loved and miss them very much.

Great reaction as always Applegeek. Congrats on your 10K, you are the best MLP reaction/reviewer I've seen to date. This is easily one of my favorite reactions, and now you're my favorite reactor ever. This episode is the best of the season. I love it! It was nice to see an actual romantic relationship grow from beginning to the"end". I say end because there is no definite end to what happened to the Parents, but we can safely assume a few things about them. The way trees are used in the show is always s been interesting to me. While most people talk about the characters and how they grow, I feel the environments they live in are just as important. Twilight being a prime example. When Twilight first went to Ponyville she was a intellectual ,but also a anti-social shut-in. She lived in a tree library that didn't stick out too much, then she became an alicon and she got her castle after the tree blew up. Then as she came to term with it her friends brought the roots of the tree library and made a chandelier for the castle with it. It shows her growth as a character based off her environment. The Apple/Pear tree is a great bit of literal and metaphorical symbol. In their own those trees look like they would have been sickly and frail but together they were strong and intertwined showing how connected they were and how different people can come together because of love. It's nice to see love in the show like this, but sad at the same time. What better episode to make your 10K special than this? You got your work cut out for you when you get to 100K. PLUS! I got to see waifu number two and four in the show too! Mayor Mare, and Mrs. Cake!

I was going through some hard times before your channel came into the picture. Now, I have something to look forward too everytime I come here. So for that I thank you for being such an awesome guy in this fandom and never change. So glad you avoided spoilers for this one. (I wasn't sure if you would or not considering how much the fans of the show wanted this for soooo long.) I'm so glad we got a Apple Family origin episode. Almost seven years of waiting and we got a sorta answer to what happened to Ajs parents. Sorta. Best Applejack/Apple Family episode since the Pie/Apple episode. (I LOVE Limestone.)

I actually rewatched your video a few times and one time, while I was more focused on the background than anything, I noticed something shocking. Take a look at the stands behind the Apple siblings when Applejack introduces herself and Big Mac to Grandpear. The stand of Burned Oak is on the right there, meaning he was right there when Burned Oak spoke to his grandchildren. He was just a few feet away from the same family that was finally learning about him and his past with their parents. Now let that sink in for a second.

I knew this episode would be the pinnacle of Applegeek's reaction career. Here are my highlights: 3:06 And so it begins. Also, hi Applebloom's hooves. 3:07 Hi Bon-Bon. 3:35 I didn't know you could make jam out of pears. Can you do that with every fruit? 3:50 Applepsychic. 4:02 I never realised that. 4:12 Huh? Breakfast for dinner? 4:20 Applejack shocked. Also, your reaction, Applegeek. 4:29 I was half-expecting there to be other things to be buried under that board - not all of them pleasant. 5:15-5:19 So there's another fruit-related family now? First the Apples. Then Applejack's aunt and uncle, the Oranges. That Cherry pony (who can't remember the name of). Strawberry Sunrise. And now the Pears. What's next, the Bananas? 5:21-5:31 Yes, why? You don't know? 5:31 My thoughts exactly. 5:34-5:39 Didn't hide that very well. 6:05 Good point. 6:15 The season of callbacks continues. 6:33 That face. 6:34 How does it all that fit in there? 6:40 Good joke. 6:49 Cat in the mane. 7:43 Young Granny Smith. We see a lot of her in the episode. 7:55-8:01 A funny, yet crazy-believable idea. 8:01-8:05 Sharp insult. 8:14 I love the attention detail: remembering to include Luna's/Nightmare Moon's silhouette on the moon. 8:17 Reading to trees. 8:28 Tree blankets. 8:35 I agree. 8:45 I didn't notice that. 8:48 Or that. 8:52-9:30 Yes people, this really happening. The long-awaited moment has finally arrived. 9:01 Yes they are! 9:06-9:12 Because you're yellow too dude. 9:30 Most excited reaction ever! And yes, you show that checkmark of yours. 9:37 Applejack and her siblings find out they're half-pear. 9:41 Those faces. 10:56/11:15 You keep noticing things I don't. 11:25 So Applejack did get her hat from her father. Or should I say hats? She has about twenty of them. 12:15 Typical disapproving parent. 12:35 We find out Applejack inherited her father's honesty. 12:55 "Peach of a pear." 12:56-13:08 My reaction exactly. 13:19 I noticed too. How unusual is that? Perhaps the original Mane 6 are fading into the background now and ponies like Starlight are taking up the reigns. 13:25 "Cinnamon sugar on toast." 13:30-13:40 Well that would explain it. 13:43 Amazing revelation. 13:49 Not before she was married, Appleboom. 13:53 Mrs Cake's maiden name revealed. 13:55-14:11 How Mrs Cake got her Cutiemark. 14:11-14:20 We find out Applebloom inherited her talent of finding other ponies talent from her mom. 14:25 Filly Mrs Cake/Chiffon Swirl. 14:40 That's exactly what it's going to be like. Apparently that story was the inspiration for this episode. 14:47-15:01 Whoops. Also, bless you. 15:27 My lips are sealed. 15:28 Oh dear. 15:33 Typical disapproving parent. 15:39 Granny spits in disgust. 16:03 131,456 hours?! He seriously counted?! 16:11 I agree. 16:18 You've got passion yourself to do the math like that. 16:33 Yes! Love song! 16:45-16:53 Finishing a portrait in the most romantic way. 17:03 How did Granny Smith and Grand Pear not notice them running off? 17:07 That one was obvious. 17:34 Sharing a scarf. 17:48 Now she notices. 18:04-18:08 What is it with ponies and being embarrassed about saying the word love? First Applebloom and now her mother. There's nothing wrong with it. 18:26 Their Cutiemarks carved into a rock. 18:37 We find out Big Mac inherited his "eeyup" catchphrase from his mom. 18:46 Those faces - including yours Applegeek. 20:01 A secret wedding. 20:16 That's a clever callback. It was revealed before that Mayor Mare wasn't a natural grey. 20:25-20:33 Who? Oh, Big Mac with Sugarbelle. 20:38-20:52 Oh dear. This is familiar scenario. 20:58-21:02 Too late parents, they're married. 21:08-21:12 They already are Granny. 21:17-21:25 Great point, Pear Butter/Buttercup. 21:28 Again, you notice things I don't. 21:31-21:46 A tough decision, but her heart knows what's right. 21:55 I love that too. 22:10-22:18 That's true, he is technically they're grandfather. 21:21 Unfortunately not. 22:30-22:52 A touching moment. 23:23-22:59 Another touching moment. 24:11-24:33 Perhaps the most touching moment of all. Two interwoven trees, with both apples and pears growing, made from the seeds Bright Mac and Pear Butter/Buttercup planted on their wedding day. They even form a heart. Overall, this episode is everything we could've hoped for. We may not have learnt how AJ's parents met their end, but it was great to finally see them. Brilliant reaction Applegeek. You must be one happy reactor right now. Especially considering you cried at the end. Also love the extra content you included.

So, we know that they died now. I mean, come on. They would have never gone on some trip without their children, not the kind of ponies they were. Anybody who didn't pick up all of the clues that they're deceased just HAS to believe they're still alive for some reason at this point, and if they were alive, then they'd certainly have told their kids at least SOME stories of their youth. Even if not the feud. I know that's what Lauren Faust wanted; that the parents would have died. And I don't think the concept of ORPHANS is too dang hard or dark for young children to understand. After all, there are plenty of orphaned or adopted children who would need characters like this in their shows. So I'm glad they honored Laurens wishes.

I'm more and more proud of all the people who work for making the show. This was a heavy topic. One that most shows would avoid, let alone a show technically marketed for kids. And they handled it wonderfully. This episode could've gone wrong a million different ways. In order to work they had to be bold and push the boundaries of what is expected from any tv show, let alone a 'kids' show.

I'm so glad you weren't spoiled about the episode! It was fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again and couldn't stop smiling throughout your entire reaction/commentary. I think this is the closest we're ever going to get with the Apple Parents with the show showcasing their lives before marriage and solidifying that the Apple Parents have passed, and it's unlikely the show will touch on it again. But I am still happy about this episode, as you said, it was a celebration of their life, not a mourning of their death. I agree with everything you said in your commentary. I always felt that Applejack left the farm as a filly soon after her parents' death, that their death was caused by some form of self-sacrifice in protecting their children (maybe from Timberwolves or a fire that broke out from a lightning strike in the orchard or forest), and I also always felt that Applejack was harboring a lot of emotions inside from her parents death and that is why she pushes herself to ensure that she is a reliable, dependable pony and so overprotective of Applebloom. So it was nice to see that others have the same feelings. I agreed and connected with you so much, I can't say it all but it's pretty much everything you said in your commentary. That scene with Big Mac & Burnt Oak is probably my favorite in the episode. And thank you for playing the Pony Christmas 'Days Gone By' song at the end. I adore that song and accepted as cannon of the Apple Family singing about honoring their deceased parents since I first heard it, even though it's a Christmas album for us of songs we already know pretty much. But hearing it again after watching the episode is so amazing because of how in line it is with it! I sort of picture the Apple Family singing this song every Hearth's Warming Eve. I've written a lot, but again, a truly phenomenal episode that I think can finally brings us closure with the Apple Family without the show having to say that they passed on directly. We may never get the story of what happened to them, but I think this episode brings it full circle and is the closest we're going to get, which I'm fine with it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your reaction/commentary and I know I'll come back to watch it again when I need to smile. (^w^) Have a great evening, Applegeek Sir. You're amazing!
