I am so glad you chimed in! These videos go well together! After shooting this, we did go over and visit her farm and we have a 2yo nubian doe in milk and a nubian doeling we have our eye on. Of course, we have a lot of prep work to do first before we can take them home! I just hope they don't sell in the meantime! I'm pinning this link :0)

She is currently nursing two fostered kids and not being milked for consumption. But she comes from excellent lines. I really hope we can get her! I want to put a deposit on her, but I am afraid that wouldn't be fair to the owner as I have no idea how long it will take us to build a fence/house (and she is housing/feeding the whole time we are doing this). We have a coop to build first for our new chickens/ducks which are coming soon. Ahh! So much to do and so little time!

I had goat milk years ago...it was horrible. I've since tried it again, but from a responsible person. I tried her raw Nigerian goat milk and it was AMAZING! NO goaty taste at all! It was very creamy! We've decided to get Nigerians. It tastes like.... milk. I grew up on raw cow milk, so I feel like I would able to tell...but with Nigerians, you'd never guess it was goat milk.

The reason some people had a "pee" taste experience is because the "Billy" goat was with the milking nanny's. The Billy goat urinates on his beard. The nannys will lick the strong urine off the Billy goats beard. This act helps the nanny goats to ovulate for breeding. Never have your Billy goat in same pasture as your milking nanny's if you want good tasting milk. Hope that helps.

Just a tip...the trick to getting really good tasting goat and cow milk is not only what you feed them, but making sure that before you milk them, give them a good brushing, wash off the teats, and make sure you don't get any hair in that milk. You get goat hair in the milk and BLEARGH...that's what makes goat milk taste goaty. Doesn't take more than a couple of hairs to do it, either.

Having had both raw goat milk and raw cow milk in all seasons of the year from numerous sources, I can tell you that the taste will vary a little or a lot according the the time of year, what the animals are grazing on, milking procedures, chilling, etc... Something I do that helps is to put the milk in the freezer until there are a few ice crystals. Also, there are times or seasons when the milk can develop off flavors or "goatiness" very quickly. If that happens, adding a few drops of food grade peroxide to the fresh milk as a preventative works wonders.

Great idea to taste goat milk first. I'm a whole milk believer. :) We had a couple Dwarf Nigerians and they are awesome. The milk from a Dwarf Nigerian almost tastes like cream! Not at all goaty. And they can make quite a bit for their smaller size! Research CAE in goats and see how she handles her herd for it. Feel free to email me if you ever want to talk goats! Exciting! Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living someday when I can afford one. I'm not even sure if I'm allowed. I heard only the indigenous people could have them here, but then I read it was actually legal. So have to do some more research. I don't think I could ever harvest one for meat though. They are too beautiful to eat. Charles and the kids eat reindeer dogs. I couldn't eat it a magical creature. 😂 my friend is trying to get me to go with musk oxen. The fiber is amazing. I used to raise angora rabbits for fiber (and they are so sweet) and have a spinning wheel to use so maybe some day. 😊

Love you all. Jeremy, you cracked me up. I had no doubt in my mind that you would both know the difference. I think I mentioned in another reply that I worked and managed dairy farms most of my life. Like Jeremy, I had fresh milk strait from the cow and loved it. I think one of you said blue milk. I had not heard that expression for so long. My dad would say Holsteins gave blue milk because it didn't have the butterfat content like a Jersey does. I have tried goat milk a few times from different farms. Everyone said theirs was better than any other farm. To me, all of the goat milk that I tried smelled like a billy goat and I just couldn't sip it. So in saying that, where you plan on purchasing theses goats, must be doing a great job. Great video. Thanks. Blessings

Sheep milk is best. It's creamy, sweet, and fatty, and doesn't taste like animal. Goat milk can taste like goat, which I don't like. The problem with goat milk you need to remove the ram like 50,000 thousands miles away from the female goat, or it will affect the taste of the milk. Really good goat milk should taste like milk and not goat.

I milked goats for years, and we loved it. THEN I tried goat milk at the State Fair. They were telling me how great it was, and I thought it was awful, compared to what I was getting. I had 2 grade goats, a toggenberg, and 2 alpines. I was very disappointed with what they acted so proud of. Theirs tasted of stinky billy goat, mine tasted like cow milk.I was kind of sorry all those people were trying it, and thought THAT was what goat milk tasted like.

@sallywasagoodolgal

You must be very, very clean with all milk. Soap, and boiling water, for your utensils, buckets, and so on, is your friend. Keep all your jars, and strainer very clean, and take your does away to be bred. Cool your milk down fast, too. You wouldn't keep a skunk in the fridge. Keep the stinky billy away from your girls. Some goats have a milder milk, and a lot depends on what you feed. If they graze on onion tops...guess what? onion-milk. If your barn is a sty? Your milk will suffer. If they can rub on a post where a billy rubbed, icky goat milk. Find someone with a clean barn, goats that are far away from the billy, and try their milk. My milk was good. My friend (with goats) her milk was good. People came to my house, put it in their coffee, and had no idea. It tasted like cow's milk. If they'd asked, I would have said. Nobody noticed.

You Guys are wonderful' and Fun in posting this!!! Thank you! for your candid Honesty',, currently we are home and stationary' during the Pandemic situation, and I am a real fan of Cow's Milk!! unfortunately it has become very scarce , including powdered milk all through-out,,,,, my family has tried Goat milk in the past and inform me that it is not a life change situation in taste''' ,, I was just in the 'not knowing' state ,, I will pursue the Goat milk line, because I am finding that it offers many benefits that Cow's milk doesn't, but mainly, you have opened my mind up to the change, with a light hearted demonstration! I thank you both for that''' take care' , stay safe''

In my experience different breeds milk taste different. Also if you let the milk sit for several days the taste will intensivy. I for sure preffer goats milk over cow =) But you are right: taste the milk from where you will get the goats! Otherwise, why get goats, if you dont like their milk?

Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Oh I'm certain of that!!! I sure hope it didn't come across as me being rude? I would never be disrespectful or one of those who try and sneak little snarky digs in. I genuinely enjoy your channel. You're love for each other and the respect you have for one another shines through your videos. You're one of my favorite KZbin couples. Well your channel in general is one of my favorites even though I'm a newbie. If my comment seemed at all flippant I am truly sorry. I just enjoyed seeing the joy and excitement.

Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Well good! You never really know how something is perceived in type. I really dislike some of the poopy stuff people say on KZbin anyway. Especially those who make those "sneaky" comments. I'm a straight forward type person myself. You guys are just super adorable and have a great sense of humor. Thanks for sharing the journey. I'm shutting up now! LOL

I just watched Willow Creek Homestead and they were looking at purchasing some goats and did an interview and taste test with the owner of the goats. the owner said that the taste of the milk depended on the breed of sheep but also the way the milk is handled ( she cooled it in a freezer for an hour to get it to 40 degrees as fast as possible)and the type of feed that that is fed to the goats (she didn't say what they were feeding their goats). I love your videos.

I breed goat for milk quality, I started because my daughter had bad exma, it went away very quickly when it was goat milk only, some quick tips. Dont get a male.. unless you want to be a stud farm, just find good stock to use. Get your first Miller already producing with its young kid. They then get used to being handled while you get used to the milking process. Dont feed greens like cabbage before milking, makes the milk coloured and smell, after is OK as time to process it. Excess milk can be safely frozen, when I started it could only be sold/bought frozen. And finally always keep fresh milk in the fridge, most people who complain of the taste is because its been left on the side all day, good luck

The taste of the milk depends some on what you feed it. Like cows if they get into a field of onion-you won't want their milk for a few days.

It's very important to chill it immediately after milking the goat! I stick it straight into the freezer for an hour or more. If it stays warm too long, it will develop the strong flavor some people complain about.

I grew up on a small farm in the 1950's and 1960's I live in W.Va. I had a milk goat and I did not like goats milk!!!! But I gave a lady next door the milk for her new baby who had been sick a lot and the milk really helped him. 🐐🐐🐐👍🏼😊

You two are cute together. I like the dynamic of seeing you both together in videos. Our first experience was baking a pumpkin? pie with goat milk, as we have a child with lactose intolerance. It was canned goat milk, and the pie we thought inedible because it smelled of goat or dog hair. I do love goat cheese, but haven't tried any fresh goat milk yet. We also think of getting milking goats in the future, but need proper fencing and more time for milking/attending to. Best wishes on getting and keeping your new goats.
