Im only half blind but hearing your guys stories relieves a lot of terror and stress that always has lingered inside me. Im told i have ONH but i feel my eyes are regressing much faster than those around me.

I've never really been interested in gaming but nice to know there's stuff out there for visually impaired people who do want to do that

Yes, I don't do a lot of gaming either, I don't have the time! lol. But it is nice to know that people are out there and there's a community out there. Thank you for your comment and I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply. Unfortunately, I am unable to create new videos on this channel for complicated reasons, but I do have a new channel. I'm a little late to the party so I don't know if anybody will see this, but gaming is very possible for a visually impaired/blind person. I play Legend of zelda with an emulator, and currently am enjoying MineCraft since the community has programed Mods that puts accessible features into the game.

Hi there! Better late than never! I'm glad that you were able to find the video and I'm glad to see you on the discord server. It's just so great that there is such a great community of those who are blind and visually impaired. All the best, Carrie.

I'm totally blind and have been almost since birth, and gaming is one of my biggest passions. The two first consoles I remember owning were a Playstation and a GameBoy. On the Playstation I played mostly fighting games (Soul Blade, Tekken 3, Bloody Roar 2), and listened to my brother and father playing the likes of Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot and Gran Turismo. However, the biggest revelation I had was on the GameBoy. Pokémon was like the biggest thing at the time, and I really wanted Red or Blue, I didn't care if it would be playable for me or not. Eventually I got a GameBoy Pocket with Blue, and my brother a GameBoy Color with Red, and as I experimented and listened to him playing, I started figuring things out. The thing is, Pokémon has one of the most solid and complete sound design in the story of RPGs, and is perhaps the most well known case of unwanted accessibility, if we are wanting to call it that. Of course it's not perfect, a few dungeons and gyms can be absolute hell without sighted help, and it takes experience and dedication no matter what. Though, there is a LUA script package called Pokemon Access to help with the first two generations, and it's probably no coincidence if the franchise lead to such projects from the blind community like this one, or even the Manamon audiogame series from VGStorm. It beares the question if they would have existed without the series' wonderful sound design as a basis to start with. As for sighted folks, even some of them like to try the adventure blindfolded, here's an example! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKrFfaGpgcyfqrc So mostly, I kept playing Pokémon and fighting games, and a few audiogames I liked like a Hero's Call or Shadow Line, and I'm eagerly waiting for another one called Planet Saga. I would love to play more JRPGs, I hope we eventually have an accessible way to play the old ones on the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo. I didn't try the most recent Pokémon games since Sun and Moon in which the grid-based movement was replaced by a first person view, but I heard about some blind people managing it succesfully, so I shall try in the future.

That is so awesome! Thank you for sharing your story with me. I love to hear about other people's experiences and I feel like it's open my eyes to how so many people do gaming. I've had low vision all my life so I used a CCTV to try to play pokemon red and I think I defeated it once. haha. I was never very good at games and no longer have so much time for them, but I think it's super awesome that there are so many blind people who love it! I'm glad that you joined the discord and if you ever want to talk about anything, there's lots of different channels you can go in and talk. There's a gaming channel, too and quite a few people who are blind in there that enjoy games. 😊 All the best, Carrie.

Hi there! Yes, I saw your facebook comment. That's awesome. I've heard that there was a Blind community for fighting or shooting games out there. Is the community you're talking about different from that? I think it's pretty awesome to have such communities. 😊 Thanks for watching and game on!

You carry this is a really interesting topic you guys are talking about because as people like you and I when you can’t see playing games is a very visual task I mean you can get accessible games but there was like no text solutions like physically here you can get scrabble or no or snakes and ladders but actually like gaming devices site I’ll see friends and family playing PlayStation or whatever and you kind of feel isolated

Hi there Aliza! I'm glad that you were able to listen and enjoy! Hopefully, this inspired you to try and maybe see if you can use some of the accommodations or methods that Sean and Koda use when it comes to playstation and xbox! All the best, carrie.

Wow to see others with visual impairments game is amazing. I've been told that I shouldn't play video games because I can't see what I'm doing. I counter with why shouldn't I if I can enjoy it. Some I can't do it but if I enjoy it why not. Why do people cut you out of being able to do something if your disabled. I now have my first ever hearing aids. It was my worst nightmare to be not only visually impaired but also hearing impaired. I love kingdom hearts and final fantasy

i have septo optic dysplaisa too! :) I'm blind in my left eye and am loosing vision in my other ee, though it was stable for years, but now unrelated to septo optic dysplasia I've been loosing vision in it. :o
@blacksheepgirl3 жыл бұрын
optic nerve hypoplasia is part of septo optic dysplaia if you have septo optic dysplasia. :D i was given glasses, but i still can't see stuff so good so i'm gonna go to a neuro ophthalmologist and see if he can help me. i saw him in sept 20 , but i want to see him again for help. :) And hope I cans ee a low vision specialist too that day. :) I'm floating in the legally blind area. My vision is going up and down which it never used too, but it gets worse then goes up and down between 2 levels then gets worse then does that. When it first got worse it stayed the same numbers all the time, but now it seems to be worse some days. :O

interesting listen so far, i mostly stick to shooters and fighting games, call of duty and mortal kombat, ocassionally i try other things like arpgs such as Diablo or single-player games like last of us too. I've done my best to advocate for accessibility improvements particularly call of duty games as that's my childhood right there, I definitely plan on finishing listening to work

Hi Carrie. Got a question. Not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but I’m not sure where to go to find the answer. I’m looking for someone or someplace that can teach me or show me how to use the voiceover and voice control in iPad Pro and MacBook Pro 2020s so that I can make PowerPoint presentations. Thank you Paul never ask a question before, so I’m not sure where the answer will show up. I’ll just come back here and look and see if there’s a comment left below

Is there a gaming devices accessible for the blind and low? If there is so how can someone get the device like that? There is so how can someone can get the device?
@LiveAccessible3 жыл бұрын
Hi there Ashley! Thanks for tuning in. I don't believe there is a specific device for gaming when blind or low vision. As we discussed on the stream, Sean mentioned quite a few accessibility options for different consoles like PS5 and Xbox. Also, Koda, who is totally blind, and many others who are in the blind gaming community use different methods and techniques for accessing games. I hope that helps! All the best, Carrie.
