I don't know why, but I'm addicted to Florida. I've been here 10 years now from Boise Idaho. Something about 75 degrees in January is crazy good feeling. Idaho has 7 months of cold. This is my home now. If you do move here, find something way inland. Cheaper home and insurance is the sam as up north. If I want to go to the beach I'm only 1 hr away.
@travelooo2 ай бұрын
Ron, no shame in being addicted to Florida! You know, I've always said, I'd LOVE to live in the south for the colder months (amen to 75 degree January) and then be able to be in the north (upstate New York, Vermont, etc.) during the summer to flea that 100 degree weather. Hah, you know, the best of both worlds! Glad you're enjoying your time in Florida!

@@travelooo Blame people for their greed and raising the prices of their homes. Funny how they want their homes to be more and more expensive but expect their insurance amount to stay the same. When your home value goes up, naturally the insurance is going to cost more. Insurance in coastal areas should have always been higher due to the higher risk involved. For years it wasn't. Now that we're seeing more storms hit FL, insurance companies are adjusting for those higher risk areas. I'd love to see many of our coastal areas go back to being natural as habitats such as the mangroves have long provided a storm buffer and protected the areas inland. Humans destroyed so much of those natural buffer habitats. And what do people do after each storm? They rebuild in the exact same spot that gets hit again from the next storm. And expect to be bailed out every time.

I am cracking up about the sinkhole commentary, that's great. I've never heard of this plannin site so I'm going to check it out - thanks!

Hah, seriously, those sinkholes are super freaky, and just the fact that it could happen anywhere, at any time...just creeps me out

I remember a few years ago when a man went to bed and his floor opened from a sudden sink hole.He was hopefully asleep because the reality would have been horrendous. They never found his body ,not that I've heard .This was on news.I was living in Indiana .But still scared the heck out of me about that possibility.

I live here in Fl and I can not stand it. Fl paint a beautiful picture but when you move here it is a horse with a different color. Pay is crazy. Unless you are a youtube and have over 1 million subscribers. Or you doing some kind of business on line you can ot make it , Just that simple Fl was really for people to retire, But in the last 20 years everyone has been coming here. I am ready to leave. Give me snow anytime. Then these stroms

I considered moving to FL for retirement back in 2015. Back then the insurance and property taxes (combined) for the 400,000 - ish price range I was shopping in was $12,000 a year which along with the weather was enough to scare me off. Back then $400k to $500k would get you a nice, modern, canal home with a short boat ride to the gulf. I don't even want to hear what it would be now!

I moved here from Maryland, and honestly, everything bad about Florida, is worse in Maryland. And Maryland has high taxes, awful crime, public corruption, and insane winters on top of it all. No regrets. None.

Hey! So glad to hear you're enjoying Florida! I lived in Upstate New York (Syracuse) and I would agree with your Maryland concerns by relating to my experience in Syracuse. Ohhhh, and I definitely never will miss the snow!

I LOVE Las Vegas, I could definitely live there, It’s such a fascinating place, I stayed there 6 times, with a side vacations with the visits to Vegas, I’ve seen a lot of Vegas, and Palm Springs, Lake Tahoe, Hover Dam, then one trip after Vegas we drove to Boulder Colorado always had a great time. So long ago now, shit, 20 years, My last Vegas trip was in Treasure Island facing towards the Wynn and every morning there’d be a new row of the outer glass mounted on the building, I’d love to go visit that casino sometime, Maybe,
