What interests me is 1) why is there so much focus on a love story involving two people we’ve never even met before this series, one of which was literally only introduced in this episode? and 2) was bel’s question about vinder “looking different” truly just a throwaway line or was it a hint towards vinder having regenerative abilities? Both of these are interesting because they both point to the possibility of the Doctor being their biological child which, the more I think about it, the more feasible and possible it becomes to me. If done well, I think it could be a really good revelation. Otherwise, I honestly don’t understand why else this series is putting so much focus on them amid a story that is literally about the Doctor’s secret past. (I also think it would be pretty adorable if the Doctor’s very first incarnation was, basically, a tamagotchi.)

The old woman is holding a spindle and stands before a loom-like contraption. The Moirai/Mouri are the three Fates from Greek mythology. And, Atropos is the the Fate that decides how to cut your timeline/time stream/time thread. We can see Awsok here stand in front of what looks like metallic wool threads in her ‘lab’ and the instrument she’s holding looks like a spindle. The first Fate weaves your lifeline thread, the second extends it, and Atropos ends your lifeline. What was the Doctor Who Looms story?

My theory is that the Flux is basically the origin story of the Doctor/Timeless Child. And it will end with the timeless child being found by Tecteun. And maybe Vinder and Bel are the Doctors parents.

So much information and so much happened. As we're in the middle of a multi-chapter story, I know that we're not supposed to know what is going on and that we're allowed to be confused (i've read books like this in the past). This episode really felt like the middle of a book to me. I loved it.

I have a feeling that Vinder and Bel could turn out to be The Doctors' parents. She is the unborn baby. Maybe the universe they were in was destroyed, and that's why the Timeless child was abandoned , and then found by Tectuen.

Child becomes regenerative owing to things that happen in this mini series, maybe involving The Passenger? Doctor "creates" herself, ie causes whatever results in bestowing regenerative stuff? All this would be quite tidy/cool/annoying! Additional idea off on a bit of a limb: Dan and Diane raise kid for a bit because they're lovely? Doctor is kind and interested in humans owing to lingering childhood memories of being fostered by scousers?

@@Faction.Paradox Well, that was because we did not have enough information about what the Timeless Child stuff meant. This episode shows more about that connection. We have seen Daleks and Cybermen conquer sectors of the Universe in this episode. Those sectors scream to me that the Doctor is not there to stop those conquests, because 13 threw herself into the Time Storm. The Doctor back from 13 no longer existed. Once the Mouri are saved, all the Doctors past selves came back into existence at the end of this episode. The only things left to discover is who is behind the Flux, and how to stop it. This episode gave us a clue where to look for the identity. Once the Doctor finds out that information, she will be able to figure out a way to stop it.

I might be the only one, but with the previous Doctors I always kind of felt like they knew what was going on even when they didn't and that they would always be able to find a fix even when they couldn't lol. Where as with this Doctor in this situation it feels like the Doctor is dealing with things outside of anything the Doctor can actually solve. I don't have the same sense of confidence in the Doctor or the same sense of security for the companions. Even though the Doctors companions are never really safe lol. Even for the brief moments where we see Ruth. I feel more confidence in Ruth being able to get things done. I don't know if that makes any sense or why I'm typing this lol

Thanks for letting a Weeping Angel into the TARDIS, Yas. The "old lady" is called "Awsok" according to the actress Barbara Flynn's Wikipedia page. She is known in the UK for playing a milk delivery lady in a comedy about a convenience store called "Open All Hours" back in the 1970s.

So, in the tradition of other major IPs recently, this was a seismic shift in terms of moving the story. Standing by the comment I made last week about Swarm(and Azure), Ik the Doctor doesn't kill but THEY NEED TO DIE. So as much as I've been trying to avoid rampant speculation, I freaking called the Doctor's connection with this season's big bad......in a way. It was SO great to see Ruth back, and the flipping between both of them was INCREDIBLE. I TOTALLY saw that Dan was carrying the axe when we saw Ruth so know Karvanista was one of Ruth's team makes SO MUCH sense. I know that people accuse Moffat of overusing the Angels, but GO**AMN that was terrifying. Idk how I'm gonna survive this week(Flux now, Armegeddon on Tuesday, Trek Thursday, Afterlife Friday and Flux again in a week)

A battle between space and time…a time war. And it’s one that actually shows time and space disruption. I think Vinder, recognizing a tardis, may be gallifreyan (just not time lord… the serpent might have been time lord). I read several speculations that in this, the angels are the good guys, trying to save the universe. Love is a feeling? Ask Danny Pink. Love is a choice and a promise (more than just a feeling)so it can indeed be a mission.

I fully believe that the Ruth Doctor is from between the 2nd and 3rd Doctor. The 2nd was forced to regenerate to the 3rd by the Time Lords. We don't see the full regeneration. It's possible that 2 was forced into Ruth, made to work for The Division and after Ruth stopped Swarm the Time Lords turned Ruth into 3 after wiping all memories of Ruth and The Division. It would also help explain the Morbius Doctor (witch was shown during the Timeless Child reveal).

I’ve always preferred this theory to Ruth being a pre-hartnell Doctor primarily because of the fact that she calls herself the Doctor and has a Tardis disguised as a police box. It also makes some sort of sense because, if we are to believe that the Doctor’s whole life pre-Hartnell has been totally wiped and is most likely irretrievable, and taking into account that the fugitive doctor is the only (supposed) “pre-Hartnell” Doctor that this current doctor has latched on to, then it’s totally plausible that Ruth just so happens to be the only Doctor in their current timeline (from Hartnell to now) that actually had their memories restored about the division etc. so they could do some extra work for the time lords as a type of punishment for the second Doctor’s interfering. And then, when they realised that they couldn’t let the Doctor continue on with those memories, they had to come up with *another* form of punishment that the Doctor would be able to remember, so that they don’t suspect anything is amiss, so they came up with the whole “you will be banished to earth!” punishment. This is insanely far fetched and probably won’t be the case but I just really don’t buy that Ruth is one of her old selves from another life. It makes much more sense, and is honestly much more interesting, if this particular doctor is just this doctor’s only connection to a lost past life that they will never be able to remember or properly get back unless permitted by the high council of time lords (which are most likely all gone anyway now thanks to the master).

I hope not. That would be like spitting Jon Pertwee in the face pushing him down to be the 4th and considering he had Troughtons clothes on when he collapsed out of the TARDIS. No I think Ruth is still a Doctor from the future with lost memories leading to believe she's a past and First Doctor when she isn't and turns out to be a future version or this entire thing could be a set up and turns out she may not had been The Doctor all along that would make more sense to me. This division thing is in the future surely.

And having a doctor between two and three does not suddenly make Jon Pertwee no longer the third doctor, he still is, just like Christopher is still nine despite the war Doctor. Ruth being from the future is actually even more confusing to me than her being pre-Hartnell but we’ll see what happens. The division always seemed like a precursor to the CIA to me.

@@joshuajoshua2732 They've already toyed with the 2nd Doctor, in some fashion, being some kind of agent for the Time Lords for ages, ever since like The Two Doctors and such (where we have a very old Troughton and Hines reprising their respective roles as the Doctor and Jamie). It's made clear that the Doctor is working for the Time Lords in that situation, being their voice while being "unofficial" in such a manner so as to allow the Time Lords to deny the Doctor's working for them. In that particular story, the Doctor went to a space station where scientists there had been developing time travel technology, and the Time Lords wanted them to stop, but didn't want to "officially" intervene, so they sent the Doctor to make them stop so they could deny their involvement. Prior to his situation in The War Games (Troughton's last main story), he'd not had any contact with the Time Lords since having originally left Gallifrey, so it wouldn't make sense for the 2nd Doctor to be working for them in a time frame when he didn't have any contact with them. So it fits better that somehow the Doctor didn't actually regenerate immediately from the 2nd into the 3rd in between the events of The War Games and Spearhead from Space (Pertwee's first), but rather served as that agent for awhile before eventually going around to the 3rd. So we already have the precedent in-universe of the 2nd Doctor functioning as some kind of agent for the Time Lords prior to the 3rd Doctor being forced into exile on Earth, so there being another incarnation there in between that served in the Division wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

Like the last time it was even mentioned was when the 11th Doctor used Gold to momentarily halt the Cyberplanner in his head but it wasn't enough to kill it, just stop it for a moment. And that wasn't even a propper Cyberman. Before then I think it was Classic Doctor Who that is was last mentioned. Maybe Colin Baker's Cyberman story? So yeah, I think "were" is the more accurate word here.

I have to agree with Eric's sentiment on feeling like it's kind of throwing a lot at us without any room to breath. I'm liking this season, and a lot of the ideas are INTERESTING, it's just that there are SO MANY it's riding the line of hard to care about every aspect. Like even the Ruth-era flashbacks, while cool, could have just as easily been from an entirely separate series for all the namedrops and history that mean nothing to us. I'm sure there's a connective thread for everything but it also feels like Chibnall is trying to cram in EVERY single cool sci-fi idea he's ever had.

I feel like we got some good answers and progression from the plots in first episode already. We know what the Sontarans wanted, we know what the Flux is ( a weapon of destruction ). We've seen the final battle between the Doctor and Swarm that he wants to torture the Doctor over and his end goal to uncage time. We also know what happened to Diane now and that the angels are specifically after the TARDIS crew. And we now know who Vinder is. Granted many of these aren't resolved yet and some have opened new questions, but the fact they've made progress means that they aren't just going to be all dealt with last minute.

In Greek mythology, Atropos is the name of the 1st of the 3 Fates. She spun the thread of human life. The 2nd of the Fates alloted how much thread each human would get, and the 3rd of them cut the thread of each human at the end of their life. The Fates' earliest known name, in ancient Greek, was Morai.

The Ruth Doctor did call herself The Doctor, which begs the question why The Doctor isn't even more known than they are given they lived much longer than originally thought. And Ruth had a TARDIS that was also a police box, despite probably not also having the same broken chameleon circuit... Don't think about it too much, nothing in s12 makes sense

i don't think jack is the one that died when the face of boe died - i think jack got decapitated by the headless monks and his body grew a new head and the head started living on itself - calling it itself the face of boe - but that head had limited time to live - still a lot but eventually it died - meanwhile the original jack is still alive and kicking in his original form

This episode wasn't as good as the first two episodes of this season it was too confusing hard to follow but it does have you asking alot of questions Im more interested on who that old lady is I didn't really care about the Bel or Vinder love story part. I will say what I do really like about Jodie's Doctor is she pretty much keeps things to herself and doesn't explain upfront about her background to her companions. Until The Ninth Doctor none of the Classic Doctors have ever been upfront with their companions. Even The First Doctor was very private and pretty much kept everything to himself. I'm finding the swarm to be probaly the best villain in NuWho so far but will see how these the rest of the Flux series plays out.

The episode wasn't even that confusing, it was just boring. Every time they time jumped I hoped they'd be back in the temple and the story would actually progress. Imagine that for 50 minutes in what you'd THINK is the most pinitol part of the story next to the climax. What a waste of the last two episode's goodwill.

I kinda liked epiosde 1, I thought it set up enough information that would later be paid off. Episode 2 I liked and though it was mostly good. But this episode was annoying. Like I was a little lost but not in a good way, I just felt like Chris Chibnal was trying to be clever but I didn't find what I was seeing engaging. Instead of having the Doctor see events from the past through her own eyes, could we not just see a flashback. Like they way the character would flicker backwards and forwards between Ruth and the Doctor was annoying. It was like Chris Chibnal didn't trust the audience would get what was going on.... I got it. I would rather see the Dog guy than Dan in that situation. I just feel like ultimatly it wasted a lot of time and this episode could have been half the legnth.

I especially hate how the Doctor immediately knows what is happening and "explains" it to the viewer with technobabble. No attempt to create mystery or suspense with her companions disappearance, or give the audience clues to figure things out. Nope, Chibnall just shoots down that storytelling opportunity right away.

@@HellfireComms I have wrote my own stories before and usually I will make bullet point notes of what is going to happen. I might for example go "Fred is at the shop. Fred walks to car. Fred gets in car. Ect." That kind of detail is necessary when writing a book because we can't see what is happening but even then, you don't have to have the character explain that. It seems Chris Chibnal left his bullet points in the script.

Chibnall just decided to introduce these Time Gods calls Mouri as if theyve been here the whole time and expect thr audience to care about what happens with them.. like i really dont!? Just tell me something about what the season villians are doing, tell me something about the division, tell me something about Dan.. like the universe is literally ending and i just dont care because i dont know what tf is going on :( this used to be my favourite show, just makes me sad.
