In regards to the kids just splitting up and running away, it's worth remembering that there's only one Escape Gate out of the trial area, so the teacher can just stay close to that area and prevent kids from getting out too easily. They can't just run away in any direction. Plus there's only a 30 minute time limit so as long as they're still stuck in the arena after 30 minutes, they lose.

I agree with Gigguk's idea of this show. It's not primarily a battle anime. Although there are action scenes, it's the lead up that makes that very minimal scene impactful. This is an anime about the characters and their growth... and yeah, their superpowers.

GermansLikeBeer many series wrap themselves in themes and character moments, but they're actually about the combat, such as dragon ball from Z onwards, sure there are character moments, but it's entirely about getting to the next enemy. what gigguk is saying is that calling something like hero academia a "battle shonen", while technically accurate, doesn't capture the spirit of what makes the show good. overlord could very easily be called a battle show, but it really isn't. overlord is a political drama. but one piece? that's all about the flashy battles, as is jojo's bizarre adventure. all of these shows have battles in them, but that doesn't make them a battle shonen. it's like the difference between a game with RPG elements, and an RPG.

Fatimh Almatrafi and while that's true, what's the solution to nami being enslaved by arlong? punch arlong. what's the solution to hody jones's hatred? punch hody jones. what's going to be the deciding factor as to who gets the one piece? whoever punches the hardest. one piece is good at world building, but the world building and character interactions act as the build-up to things like luffy punching lucci's lights out or luffy cracking an island to beat doflamingo. they exist to give us a reason to root for the protagonists and hate the antagonists. whereas, i couldn't say that about hero academia. the solution to the encounter with stain wasn't the fight in the alley, it was the moment where he outlines his ideals and the stuff in the hospital after. the purpose of the world building isn't to add to the next fight scene, it's to add to the story and characters. the only except to this that i can think of is the fight with all for one, but that's more tragic than an epic duel, and mostly exists to drive the plot forward faster.

Yeah, Bakugou is actually really smart, and its kind of implied in the show but never directly stated. I totally get why people think he's stupid though--his personality would suggest that he's the stereotypical angry jock bully type, so that naturally gives the first impression that he doesn't perform well academically. Still though, you can't forget that he's extremely talented despite his rash personality and undoubtedly works REALLY hard--it's not like he was blessed with a godlike quirk like Todoroki, he became this powerful because he came up with all these techniques and uses for his Explosion quirk himself. This might venture a bit into spoiler territory, but there's a point later on where the show suggests that Bakugou sleeps really early, even compared to everyone else in the class. It really helps remind people that despite everything, he is debatably one of the most hardworking students in the class, even compared with Midoriya.

I love the match ups for the test which makes it one of my favorite “test the characters” in anime. They put the two people who uses just brute force vs someone who has a ton of defensive abilities, the two most reliant on their quirks vs the guy who can take them away and my favorite the two dumbest characters vs the smartest. Bakugo actually studies and takes notes a shit ton, to the point that he's even able to tutor Kirishima and help him improve his grades as well. He also aced the written test to get into UA at the start of the series. Bakugo's funny like that, because he always goes around acting like this rowdy, "couldn't give a fuck about the rules" delinquent who can't even be bothered to put on his uniform properly, but he's actually super studious and diligent about schoolwork on his own time, since he wants to be the best.

Correction. There is no filler episode in MHA. There may be filler scenes where the studio adds to fill in the time or to add in to the story, but there is no filler episode except for recaps. All the scenes in MHA so far are all in the manga and are all important to the plot development.

Bakugo is loud and aggressive but he is very serious and driven to be a hero. They may have missed it in his starting line, but I hope the guys realize that soon with his origin. As for Midoriya, he's clever and a determined fanboy, but he's not necessarily book smart, y'know? He's still in the top five, though.

There have been subtle signs that bakugou is intelligent. This isn't the type of show were characters just have one basic trait, they are more complex than that. Plus we gear deku inner monologue all the time, so it's easier to understand how smart he is we don't hear bakugous so I can see why you'd think he isn't smart
