What I find so impressive about this is that the actor for 001 basically played 3 different characters and he killed it for each one. about jamie campbell bower aka vecna/001: when rick said you don't get an actor that good and not have them play an important role, that's exactly what i told my bf when JCB first showed up this season! my first thought right away when i saw his name in the opening credits was "wait wow he's in this??" lol. the show really did a great job of casting JCB as vecna. he has that uncanny aura in him yet he can turn on the charm. he was also in the mortal instruments, fantastic beasts, and twilight, but i'm glad his appearance on this show is getting him all the hype he deserves. such a cool actor

They can hear voices in upside down.. that's something they showed in s1 when will used to communicate he used to listen his mom and then reply back with flickering lights. The trick is to be near a light source to communicate

This episode's reveal was done great. Having 1 and 11 being identical and both having the same powers makes me look forward to their final confrontation. Also giving an explanation that Brenner's question, "What have you done?" is probably about her freeing 1's power. Ties into first season when she does escape, she uses the route that he showed her and the method he did to defend herself at the end of season one when they try to take her back. Which is why the military believe she's responsible for the deaths.

The sheet floating isnt the issue The problem is the sheets floating being able to hold them when they climb up it/they cant pull it down as the only force stoping it is the gravity of the other side because both gravitys are equal it floats but when you pull it then 1 side gets a great force than the other basicly 1 grav vs 1 grav = floating 1 grav + 1 person pulling/climbing on it vs 1 grav should cause it to move unless the strength of the gravity is so strong you cant move it but that causes the issue of how it was picked up in the first place

I was hoping Eric would notice the music being used during the monologue scene being the same music used in Watchmen lol. I got a good laugh during their episode 6 discussion when Calvin was twisting Aaron's theory and Aaron said multiple times "I don't think the orderly is One" but Calvin ended up being correct lol. Aaron was talking about the orderly and the story he had of 001 and Calvin went off to say that the orderly *is* 001. If anyone is curious, this occurs at 28:10 of their discussion of episode 6. And then at 30:15, Calvin gets a lightbulb moment after Aaron says the orderly is too young to have worked with Brenner back in the 50s unless he was a child, and Calvin somehow pieces it together that Henry Creel never died, is One, and became Vecna.

if you didn't know, something else cool about Jamie Campbell Bower who plays 001 is that he is also in all the Vecna prosthetics and he does the voice as well. I have been a fan of his for a long time so I was very impressed and i'm glad they didn't CGI vecna. They didn't use any modifiers on his voice either, it's all him and there is footage on youtube of him doing it if you're interested in seeing it. I just thought the entire process and the way they made Vecna was awesome:) love the video, can't wait to see your episode 8 and 9 reaction

There's definitely a Star Wars parallel. Both the Jedi order and Brenner recognize that negative emotions are bad, and try to raise their powerful kids in an environment that is free of all emotions and attachments instead. But the strongest way to defeat negative emotions is with positive emotions; the only way to turn back from the Dark Side is through love and family.

For the timeline, this massacre is happening in 1979 (per the opening of the first episode with Brenner). The stuff that happened at Victor's house happened in 1959, so it's 20 years later. I believe Henry was supposed to be 10 in 1959, so that would make him 30 when the massacre took place. That would make him a couple years younger than the actor, I believe, so it all fits.

For the memory power thing I immediately thought of Mob Psycho season 2, Mogami tried to convince Mob that living in pain and anger is what made your powers stronger, but that's just cause they were strong emotions to him. To Mob, the love of his friends and his want to protect them is what gave him the strength to beat him. Which now that I look at Stranger Things it's VERY similar in that way it seems.

I think one of rare times where Dustins theory isn't 100% accurate, because they're operating under the assumption of Mind Flayer is the big bad, so Vecna must be under him, but now that we know who Vecna is, and his backstory, it falls apart. Also don't believe like, 80 percent of what he was telling 11 was true. There was some truths in there, but he was manipulating her, telling her a few truths in the middle of lies to push her to act quickly to what he wanted. Like about Brenner, he wanted the kids to kill 11? But Brenner punished 002 for lying and attacking? Don't make sense. 001 sees himself as top of the pyramid predator, a God to punish the guilty and bad. That, and seeing how he gad to have his powers suppressed by Brenner, why would he be ok working for Mind Flayer. He believes he's above orders and rules and control. He's been in the Upside down for 4 years at s1, so 7 years now, if he was teamed with MF, why was he never utilized before. Something happened with the Mind Flayer, which has allowed Vecna to take control. Mind Flayer isn't the big bad, Vecna is, with s5 being the final season, it would bring closure to 11s story, full circle. It started with 11 and 001, it'll end with 11 and 001. S4 is def gunna end badly I think.

I mean, you have some valid points, but you need to remember the Mind Flayer is essentially the ruler of the Upside Down. Without the Mind Flayer, Vecna wouldn't have been created either.

@@TheArrowedKnee I feel it's worth mentioning that the Mind Flayer being the ruler of the Upside Down was the working theory that the characters came up with but that doesn't mean it's true without a doubt. From what we knew before S4, the Mind Flayer was the biggest *known* threat but as with most things, new discoveries should be taken into account in how they change what we think we know. Also I don't recall there being anything that suggested it was specifically the Mind Flayer that caused 001 to become Vecna. To me, it seemed like the Upside Down was still primal and forming when El forced One into it and he was infused by the raw energy which caused his transformation.

@@TheArrowedKnee we dont know that. 001 was hit by lightning(?) Multiple times, whether that was organic or purposefully made, who knows, but the only changes we've seen are just his appearances. At this moment there is nothing linking the two together except the location of Upside Down, and what Dustin is theorizing, which is based off incomplete info and assumptions. The way 001 thinks of himself and others, doesn't make sense that he is now fine following the rules of others.

Brenner wanted 11 to be pushed and if that means allowing 11 to be in a situation where she could be attacked, fine. But you still need to enforce rules publicly and present a front. Makes plenty sense. If not Henry, it would be some other person or method that is being used by the MF to expand into our realm. This is like saying Venom, or Knull, are not the big baddy, but Eddie Brock or Mac Gargan is or something.

My thought is that when someone is in the upside down for an extended time, the upside down kind of imprints their memory. Meaning Henry, who spent all his time in Hawkins at the Creel house and then the lab, so prior to Will, the upside down was just a vast wasteland and Will being in there was what brought the rest of Hawkins, as it appeared in 1983.

So after this episode, we now know that El opened two gates into The Upside Down. The first in 1979 when El defeated Vecna which she then forgot about, and then the one in 1983 when she made contact with The Demogorgon whilst in the deprivation tank.

Duffer Bros said in an interview that the length of the episodes was due to there being 4 complicated storylines and there wasn't a great place to end the episodes to split them up. They felt as if the episodes need to have a distinct start and end. They could be lying to coverup some sort of Netflix cast/crew pay scheme but I'll just take their word for it. They seemed adamant it was a creative choice. They also seemed to indicate the pandemic had a lot to do with it too. They had a lot of time to write and plan this season, so there was a lot more depth and story.

When I watched it, I kinda figured it out that the orderly could be One. I never imagined him to be Henry. I thought cuz Henry was sensitive, he may have opened a doorway or something for Vecna (as Vecna must have sensed his insecurities or something). When the revealed it was actually Henry who turned out to be One and then transformed into Vecna, I was blown away. The Duffer brothers have created something special here. Can't wait for their reaction to episode 8 and 9.

@BlindWave In response to what you said about Steve fending off the original Demogorgon in season 1 with the nail studded bat, I think this one is older and larger than that one was. Not to mention, the Russians have essentially been torturing it, or at least over-containing it. The original Demogorgon was able to roam free, hunting prey as it desired. This one is larger and cooped up more often, which makes feral creatures more aggressive when it comes time to hunt.

C'mon Calvin xD The rope through the portal thing is not that hard to understand. On both sides gravity is pulling the cloth rope down. Since it would be in equilibrium if we're to assume in both places the gravity is the same, it hangs in the middle. That's why when they pass through, suddenly gravity is flipped and they fall down. It's just a barrier.

Perhaps, we don't know. Such an event doesn't exist in real life. So we can only speculate. I find no problem with the way they showed it. It worked for the scene.

​@@notnot9476 Again, that question cannot be answered as we can only speculate how it works based on our existing version of math/physics, which is based on how our current world works. There's no situation in real life where 2 gravity spheres have collided so closely to one another through a portal. The scene showed they threw it up, after it went through the portal it fell down, that's why they held the part that was still in the Upside Down so that couldn't fall with the rest. They then showed Dustin pull on it, to show that it was in a state of equilibrium, meaning all forces acting on it resulting in 0 when combined. There's plenty of reasons to think of why it could work the way it was shown, so why be so hell bent on trying to think of ways why it doesn't work?
