In 2009 at the age of 17 I was admitted into a mental hospital. I was young, scared, and felt lonely. During my stay I met a girl who was going through a lot in her life. She was a sexual abuse victim and was admitted to the hospital because she attempted suicide. She started talking to me, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere. Fast forward to today, we have been married now since 2017, and have 3 beautiful children. This video reminded me of how we met. The whole experience just shows how you can find light even in the darkest of times.

It’s funny how I used to listen to blink as a young teenager thinking my life was rough. As a young adult I see how naive I was. It all used to be catchy but now it’s got a deeper meaning, some of them tied to real experiences. I also stumbled across a girl who was in and out of the hospital and although that ended it was probably some sort of canon event.

+george Lopez Doubt it. Have you heard Bored to Death? It's generic as fuck. It sounds like any other shit modern pop punk band. It's arguably one of the worst songs they've ever done. and Built this Pool is probably the most cringe worthy song they've ever done. If they released that 15 years ago it would have been funny. I'm not even a big fan of Neighborhoods but I still prefer any song on there to the two new songs. If anyone is butchering blink now it's Mark. this band used to be legendary and now they sound like a cover band. they've literally become a dreadful imitation of what they used to be.
@SonikJesus8 жыл бұрын
yup bored to death is so generic. its funny all the media and journalists are trying to hype it up and ppl believe it just cause they read it. that song is so boring though. they say they wrote like 50 songs but they still put built this pool and brohemian rhapsody on the album. all those other songs mustve sucked if they still put those two pieces of shit on the album
@JamieNinetyFive8 жыл бұрын
jazzblaster totally agree, dude. They wrote 50 songs and yet Bored to Death makes the cut which is arguably the most insignificant, boring, generic song they've ever done. Built This Pool, like I said to George Lopez, would have been funny if they released it 15 years ago, but a man writing that at 44 years of age and thinking it's funny just makes me cringe. If these pathetic generic songs are the best they wrote out of 50 then the other 35 odd songs that didn't make the album must have been atrocious. Mark and Travis are literally just writing total shit and then cashing in on the blink name because they know people will buy it just because it's "blink-182" regardless of the fact that these songs are total shit.

I love the look of complete shock and awe the female patient shows when she reads her records and notes made about her diagnosis written in her chart at ~1:20. Ten years later our medical system is of course way different and records are easily accessible online. I can relate personally, esp. as a psych patient, with the way she feels as I have and continue to feel upset when I read what my doctors have sometimes written about me, my past, and progress. I feel ashamed, shocked, angry, maybe even hopeless. You can just see the overwhelming feelings that consume her and sense of relief she feels when she tears these sheets into to shreds and just starts to do her best to put it past her and enjoy the night. The lyrics and music align so well to represent all of these feelings. Love this song, love Blink.

"After Midnight" I can't get my feet up off the edge I kind of like the little rush you get When you're standing close to death Like when you're driving me crazy Hold on as we crash into the earth A bit of pain will help you suffer when you hurt, for real 'Cause you were driving me crazy Bite your lips, your words a robbery Do you grin inside? You're killing me All along we talked of forever I kind of think that we won't get better It's the longest start, but the end's not too far away Did you know I'm here to stay? We'll stagger home after midnight Sleep arm in arm in the stairwell We'll fall apart on the weekend These nights go on and on and on I can't keep your voice out of my head All I hear are the many echoes of The darkest words you said And it's driving me crazy I can't find the best in all of this But I'm always looking out for you 'Cause you're the one I miss And it's driving me crazy Bite your lips, your words a robbery Do you grin inside? You're killing me All along we talked of forever I kind of think that we won't get better It's the longest start, but the end's not too far away Did you know I'm here to stay? I met Tom that year (then selling his own Tshirts) and he asked me why I wasn't watching the headlining band rather than talking with him. I still relish his autograph on my tix stub. Next came their meteoric rise to super-stardom at the turn of the millennium. I lost touch for awhile though not completely, yet Neighborhoods is their last album which I finally accept now. Their music evolved like we all do eventually. A final great album that showcases all their strengths. I am happy to say goodbye to Blink 182 on their terms. Neighborhoods hit me the hardest of any blink cd growing up. That record broke me down everyday on the drive to work and it was only the first four songs on my commute. I had to pull myself together everyday before work for months

I remember the New Year’s Day when Neighborhoods came out, I would listen to this, Natives, Up All Night, After Midnight, Hearts All Gone & Wishing Well on repeat for like 6 months straight. So many memories later and it still speaks to me. Hope everyone stays healthy and positive out there! Even if you’re going through things never give up on loving yourself and others, & remember to be kind to everyone, we’re all here to live and love.

This vividly takes me back to being a freshman in high school (2011). I found Blink in 6th grade (2008) when they were just ending the hiatus and listened to every album available through countless times. I was coherent in blink speak by high school. I was the classic “Man I wish I was the age I am now but when they were releasing Enema and TOYPAJ”. Within my first 2 months of freshman year, Blink released neighborhoods and gave me a soundtrack for the rest of grade school. It was really cool to become like the other slightly older fans who had new Blink albums during their high school years. I didn’t feel like I missed the bus as much anymore. I wasn’t into neighborhoods TOO much initially. I was more of the Dude Ranch sloppy punk rock sound type. Here I am, 23 now, and this album has grown so much on me. After midnight takes me right back to those hallways, classrooms, new friends, smoking weed for the first time almost a decade ago now. Thanks Blink.

I discovered blink 182 in 1999. I was in 7th grade and there music got me though middle school, and high school. I didn't like this album when it came out. Now im 34 and I went back to this album and now I love it. It's getting me through adult hood now. Blink will always be one of the best. We need Tom.

I was scared they'd replace Tom with someone trying to be Tom. I'm glad they realised they could never find a new Tom and got a fresh sound. Alkaline Trio was also another favourite band of mine growing up, they weren't that far behind blink in my mind

This song represents a period in my life where everything was so real. I had no cares no worrries everything was just in the moment. The girl that I went thru during this period was the best, she was everything you could want, spontaneous, funny, exciting and never boring. We lived a life with no consequences because of our work, it was understood to a point that our relationship was platonic, but i loved this girl, probably more than ive ever loved anyone. But the young and dumb vibes got in the way. I wont say regret any choices ive made, but i would be lying if i said i dont look back and wonder what if. Maybe things should be encapsulated in a moment of perfection and never to be repeated or tried to be. I miss her, she meant alot to me but it should go down as this comment will.

sometimes you have the most fun just living in the moment not thinking about the past or future not caring about anything just had fun while it lasted in my experience but you always think about that person at some point and think what if I change this or that would thay still be here and you think does that person still think about me the way I think about her or him

I hear you man. I used to feel exactly the same way until I met my now wife who flipped the script on what I used to think were dumb youngster angsty chaotic priorities just so that I could chase that thrill with the cool girl who never thought of me in the same way... I don't regret my past choices and the path I ended upon but through depression and happiness, you will find a middle ground and you will find what you are searching for. Don't live in the past because the future is always brighter and you'll be pleasantly surprised 😊

Not sure what this song is actually about, probably a relationship like shown in the video. But to me, it's about the never ending struggle with depression. If you've been there, you know what I mean. The lyrics fit perfectly. It's that part of you that's still trying, speaking to that part of you that is numb and dead and lost. :(

I respect the fact that Blink are a very popular band. They have their own unique style that they innovated, particularly with their mainstream success in the late 90s. To their credit they earned a massive following from the youth. HOWEVER, whenever I think of bands of that era, I think of all shortcomings and the "meh" bands that never truly lived up to the standards that Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Guns N' Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers set in the generation before them. Compared to those bands, Blink just lack legitimacy in my honest opinion. Please don't hate on me.
@Nirvesta10 жыл бұрын
It's a tough call, by far all the bands you listed are above and beyond some of the best we'll probably experience in our lifetime. I tend to think of Blink as more of a niche that doesn't necessarily need to compare themselves to the others. I don't think they lacked legitimacy, because there's not really any other band that can say they did what Blink did within the same genre. Just my opinion.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. Back then it was just a continuation of normal blink, so it was still criticized for having a different sound, but they were still the same band. Probably now that Tom is not there, people long for how it used to be and appreciate more the songs they did with him. But I get what you mean. Songs like this one were unfairly underappreciated when they were released. After Midnight is great!

I never knew this album existed until a few days ago. I just listened to this song for the first time ever, as I'm writing this. And wholly crap. Easily one of the best Blink 182 songs, no question asked. I can't wait to listen to the rest of this album. Im 30 now and I was never into Blink much while going through grade school. I always loved Angels and Airwaves. I just listened to the full Box Car Racer album for the first time ever a few days ago, and that also deserves a wholly crap, because that album is ridiculously good too. I hope and pray that Mark gets over cancer. Listening to this songs and watching him playing and singing (knowing what hes dealing with) just makes me cry and cry and cry. I've probably listened to Adam's Song like 30 times within the past 3 days

I can't get my feet up off the edge I kinda like the little rush you get When you're standing close to death Like when you're driving me crazy Hold on as we crash into the earth A bit of pain will help us suffer when you're hurt For real 'cause you were driving me crazy Bite your lips, your word's a robbery Do you grin inside, you're killing me All along we talked of forever I kinda think that we won't get better It's the longest start, but the end is not too far away Did you know, I'm here to stay We'll stagger home after midnight Sleep arm-in-arm in the stairwell We'll fall apart on the weekend These nights go on and on and on I can't keep your voice out of my head All I hear are the many echoes of The darkest words you said And it's driving me crazy I can't find the best in all of this But I'm always looking out for you 'Cause you're the one I miss And it's driving me crazy Bite your lips, your word's a robbery Do you grin inside, you're killing me All along we talked of forever I kinda think that we won't get better It's the longest start, but the end's not too far away Did you know, I'm here to stay We'll stagger home after midnight Sleep arm-in-arm in the stairwell We'll fall apart on the weekend These nights go on and on and on We'll stagger home after midnight Sleep arm-in-arm in the stairwell We'll fall apart on the weekend These nights go on and on and on We'll stagger home after midnight Sleep arm-in-arm in the stairwell We'll fall apart on the weekend These nights go on and on and on We'll stagger home after midnight Sleep arm-in-arm in the stairwell We'll fall apart on the weekend These nights go on and on and on
