Hands down the coolest signature model Stratocaster ever. Just the way it looks was a major contribution to me picking up a guitar for the first time. That invader pickup sounds so good. Especially paired with the Mesa Dual Recitifier.

@@DylanKarbo I'll admit I don't have a huge wealth of knowledge when it comes to bands that innovated for the genre, but I always did consider blink to be pretty innovative *personally*. I know I said they might not have been, but that's mostly due to what a lot of people say, because blink-182 is looked down upon in this weird light due to their success. I think Tom brought some great riffs and melodies to the table with Mark providing some good contrast through vocals, lyrics, and bass, all tied together by Travis' stellar drumming. I hate when people say Travis would have been betwr off ditching blink, but like no- they're his friends.

The white sticker Stratocaster is 1993 American standard, which some made in 93 were sold in 1994 with that 40th anniversary enamel. You can tell by the N3 serial number, which stands for "Ninety 93". That body was a 100% made of Alder. Only the anniversary reissues were ash. They were 50's reissues so they included maple V shaped necks, ash bodies, vintage voiced single coils with a one-ply pickguard.

Fun fact. The Seymour Duncan invader pickup in Tom’s signature strat are neck pickups in the bridge position. The capacitors and pot used gave him the tone that you hear with less definition. This is the grungy tone that you hear. Moreover, the intro to Stay together for the kids was recorded on single coils. Verse and chorus using the invader.

@@stphngrnr They're actually all bridge invaders in Tom's custom shop stuff. There were indeed some neck invaders in Tom's Mexican signature model that was sold to the public, but when it comes to his actual US made custom shops, it was a bridge invader everytime. Check out littleredguitars2's video called "The truth about Tom Delonge's custom shop guitars". He managed to track down the guy who made them on Instagram, and asked him a load of questions about them. It's a great video and his channel in general is awesome for all thinks Blink and pop punk.

Also, you're right about Stay Together For The Kids. It's definitely single coils and even sounds like it may be a Telecaster. In Enema, Take Off and Untitled, Tom used Jerry Finn's guitars to record rather than his Strats. So there will be a mixed bag of all sorts on those records. I for one am convinced that both Stay Together and What's My Age Again were recorded with single coil Tele's (at least the intros were).

I reckon they just sneaked some neck Invaders in the cheaper ones to shift some from inventory. Invaders aren’t exactly popular in the neck and maybe the just wanted to hide a few???? The US ones are definitely all Bridge Invaders - they didn’t fuck with those bad boys.

13:10 I believe that baritone strat is the guitar you can hear on adams song for the Tom Mark and Travis Show album. Theres few videos of that show in 1999 online, but if you skip to adams song on the video or even just before where more light hits the body of the guitar, it is indeed an orange strat with a maple board and a funny small headstock. He may have used it after that I cant see online, but I know in 2001 or 2002 Tom then used his least favourite yellow strat for adams song. If anyone wants to fact check this please do, Im going by what I have seen and could well be wrong.

I like your videos... I personally have always been a fan of every era of Tom's guitars. From his Les Pauls to even now his es333 that also use single PUPs. Tom is an awesome guitarist and such an amazing songwriter. Ive always been a fan of the punk rock guitarist mentality who creates such amazing songs and riffs with straight forward guitar setups. Ive always been a fan of Tom and even other guitarists like Billy Joe Armstrong who've always used a straight forward one humbucker guitar going straight into the guitar head. All the other pick ups on blue are dumby PUPS. Even punk rock greats like Johnny Ramone used that approach to his guitar playing. Less is more... and when you got a barebones setup and nothing else distracting you, it proves that the talent comes straight from the guitarist playing while creating some memorable iconic songs. Even guitarists like EVH used that punk rock mentality approach to his playing as well.. guitar with one humbucker.

Great video! Something I heard a while back is that the Invader humbuckers he used are actually NECK Invader Humbuckers put in the bridge position. People who bought the Tom Delonge Fender strats opened them up and checked the humbuckers. Which they claim were neck versions and not bridge versions. Anyway, I never owned one, so I can't check. at 4:14 you said that the body must be ash because it's a 40th anniversary, however that is certainly not the case with any anniversary strat. Anniversary strats commemorate the year the company actually started. They were not commemorating the 1954 strats, and in fact, all of their american standards, deluxes, MIM standards and the like have that emblem. And all of the afformentioned lines use an alder body with the exception of the sunburst american models that use ash. There's a separate line called a American Vintage reissue - which would have a 1 ply pickguard a maple fretboard and an ash body if it were a true 1954 Re-issue.

probably a stratocaster style guitar with a seymour duncan invader bridge pickup, played through one of those digital amp emulators you plug into your computer, simulating a mesa boogie dual rectifier...unless you got 3 grand lying around to spend on the physical amp itself... lolz

I wonder what made him switch from using the strats to the ES 335 or whatever they’re called
@slimkickens
@slimkickens 2 жыл бұрын
ES-333. The difference being the 333 has a backplate to access the controls. And I think it was because his contract was up and strats are small on someone 6' 4"

Watch the doco The Pursuit of Tone. He says the gibson is much more a piece of art and the strat looks so small on him. The gibson is much bigger and suits him better he said.
@raymon8044
@raymon8044 2 жыл бұрын
It's for the reason mentioned above and the fact that Tom had backproblems, I guess the ES333 weighs down different on his back or whatever. I know he used the ES333 for Boxcarracer but his endorsment with Fender still made him use his Strats for the videos. I've seen pictures of him playing 2 different Strats and the red ES, during the BCR tour. Funny how the prices for his signature ES models skyrocketed, yet the Strats seem to be going for junkmoney. I'm never getting rid of my DeLonge Strat no matter how much they go for.
@garettturbettmusic
@garettturbettmusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@raymon8044 I guess that makes sense. The hollow body of the ES333 would be much lighter than a strat! Is the back problems also why he stopped playing so low?

@raymon8044

Tom used a bunch of guitars on Enema, Tele's, old Les Pauls, old Jr's, a couple of his touring guitars. They recorded at a fancy studio and just used whatever was laying around... I believe Tom is playing a Les Paul in their cameo bit in the American Pie movie. There is a demo version of Dumpweed in the movie aswell.

He had so many of these. Yes it might have been the old sea foam, but I promise you there were several old sea foams. Not to mention the daphne blues, the silver one, the metallic turquoise one, and so on. I saw blink growing up. He changed guitars every song so Doug could retune the guitar. Side stage would show prolly 10 strats and some being duplicate colors. Just like during the self titled gibson era he had endless amounts of that brown/cream guitar too, and then when angels happened he started doing a verity of color schemes. Tom can get whatever the fuck he wants and multiple back up’s
