I love how the entire Easter egg is very nonsensical without the added context. Which, to be fair, is kind of the point, but can you imagine being Lawrence Nightingale and finding this ridiculous, weird video on multiple DVDs that have nothing to do with each other? It's like his video message for Martha before he changes into human in "Human Nature", where there's a part Martha skips over. In actuality, they left the camera rolling and had Tennant say anything he could to fill a solid minute or so of time that could then be "fast-forwarded" through.

Larry: Of course he can't hear us. Look, I've got a transcript, see? Everything he says. 'Yep, that's me,' 'Yes I do,' 'Yep, and this,' next is... The Doctor and Larry: [in unison] Are you going to read out the whole thing? Larry: [sheepishly] Sorry. Sally: [to The Doctor] Who are you? The Doctor: [on the DVD] I'm a time traveller. Or I was. I'm stuck in 1969. Martha Jones: [Martha interrupts on-screen] We're stuck. All of space and time he promised me. Now I've got a job in a shop, I've got to support him! The Doctor: [gesturing at the screen] Martha! Martha Jones: Sorry. Sally: I've seen this bit before. The Doctor: Quite possibly. Sally: 1969? That's where you're talking from? The Doctor: 'Fraid so. Sally: But you're replying to me! You can't know exactly what I'm gana say 40 years before I say it! The Doctor: 38! Larry: I'm writing this down! I'm getting in your bits. Sally: How! How is this possible? Tell me! Larry: Not so fast! The Doctor: People don't understand time. It's not what you think it is. Sally: Then what is it? The Doctor: Complicated. Sally: Tell me. The Doctor: Very complicated. Sally: I'm clever, and I'm listening, and don't patronize me because people have died and I'm not happy. Tell me. The Doctor: People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect... but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly.... timey-wimey.... stuff. Sally: Yeah, I've seen this bit before. You said that sentence got away from you. The Doctor: It got away from me, yeah. Sally: Next thing you're gana say is 'well I can hear you.' The Doctor: Well I can hear you. Sally: This is impossible! Larry: No! It's Brilliant! The Doctor: Well not hear you exactly, but I know everything you're gana say. Larry: Always give's me the shivers, that bit. Sally: How can you know what I'm gonna say? The Doctor: [on the DVD] Look to your left. Larry: [Sally turns to see Larry writing something down] What's he mean by look to your left? I've written tons about that on the forums. I reckon it's a political statement. Sally: He means you. What are you doing? Larry: I'm writing in your bits. That way I've got a complete transcript of the entire conversation. Wait until this hits the net! This'll explode the egg forums! The Doctor: [on the DVD, pointing at the screen] I've got a copy of the finished transcript, it's on my autocue. Sally: How can you have a copy of the finished transcript? It's still being written! The Doctor: [on the DVD] I told you, I'm a time traveller - I got it in the future! Sally: Okay, let me get my head around this. You're reading aloud from a transcript of a conversation you're still having? The Doctor: [on the DVD, waving his hands dismissively] Oh, wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... Sally: Actually, never mind that. (looks to Larry) You can do short hand. Larry: So? The Doctor: What matters is, we can communicate. We have got big problems now. They have taken the blue box, haven't they? The Angels have the phone box. Larry: "The Angels have the phone box". That's my favorite; I've got that on a t-shirt! Sally: What do you mean "Angels"? You mean those statue things? The Doctor: Creatures from another world. Sally: But they're just statues. The Doctor: Only when you see them. Sally: What does that mean? The Doctor: Lonely Assassins, they used to be called. No one quite knows where they came from, but they're as old as the Universe, or very nearly, and they have survived this long because they have the most perfect defense system ever evolved. They're quantum locked. They don't exist when they're being observed. The moment they are seen by any other living creature, they freeze into rock. No choice, it's a fact of their biology. In the sight of any living thing they literally turn to stone. And you can't kill a stone. 'Course, a stone can't kill you either, but then you turn your head away. Then you blink, and oh yes it can! Sally: [to Larry, referring to a nearby Angel] Don't take your eyes off that. The Doctor: That's why they cover their eyes. They're not weeping, they can't risk looking at each other. Their greatest asset is their greatest curse. They can never be seen. Loneliest creatures in the Universe. And I'm sorry. I am very, very sorry, it's up to you now. Sally: What am I supposed to do? The Doctor: The blue box; it's my time machine. There is a world of time energy in there that they could feast on forever, but the damage they would do could switch off the sun. You have got to send it back to me. Sally: How? How?! The Doctor: And that's it, I'm afraid. There's no more from you on the transcript, that's the last I've got. I don't know what stopped you talking but I can guess. They're coming. The Angels are coming for you, but listen -your life could depend on this- don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink. [beat] Good luck.

WAtching it without context, I still can't help but think that a lot of the mystery goes away when he explains he's got the transcript. It's right after saying, "Well, I can hear you," and in the same contextual area he talks about being a time traveler. And his explanation about the Angels is crystal clear even without Sally's lines: they're statues when you look at them, and they'll kill you if you look away.
@Ninjat12611 ай бұрын
It's still weird and mysterious, though, if you're a normal person on 2007 Earth. An easter egg on 17 different unconnected DVDs, that looks like a guy reading lines from a sci-fi script about time travel and angel statues. Except he's interrupted by another "actor" partway through, so it's not just one "actor" on set. AND no matter how hard you try, you can't find any copies of the script he's reading from or what the actor's name is. He sounds English and he says he's in 1969, but maybe that's just part of the script? Not surprised that something like that would go viral, even if it's just people trying to track down who the "actor" is and what "script" he's reading from.

My dad once set "The angels are coming for you" to the end of the warning as his alarm on his phone. However, he FORGOT that he set that for his alarm, so when his alarm went off, he was VERY wide awake because he was too scared to blink |D

The Doctor gave a full description of the angels here, how didn't the forums figure out what he was talking about (they didn't believe it, but they should have figured it out). Also, the fact he (presumably) talks to a person in the future with a transcript from the future.

You can watch this easter egg by putting in the disk of series 3 box set with the episode blink on it then go to scene selection screen. Go to the second page of the scenes from blink then go to the last scene on the top row and press up. The word blink should be highlighted. Press it. :-)

Doom, writing the transcript is a paradox by that logic, you could very easily just write in "How?" Acting as if you actually said that to begin with and that way the doctor would have that and be able to respond like the rest of the clip and Easter eggs.

This would be the ultimate Dr. Who prank: If you have a friend who's never seen "Blink" tell them there's a video circulating on the Internet that's been in the BBC archives since the 70's, featuring a man who looks exactly like David Tennant, and describe this easter egg the way Larry does, as if it's real. Practice ahead of time saying Sally's lines and adjust it to your situation, then show them this video and play along. If all goes well, you’ll convince them Tennant’s a real Time Lord. LOL

The Doctor says that you can't kill a stone. But what would happen if you smash the angels into pieces? It that actually possible?
@nicholasaviles421210 жыл бұрын
Given how powerful the Angels actually are I would say it's not really possible even though they are technically made of stone, plus by the time you were able to get a weapon or be able to do something with the weapon you probably would've looked away already and they would've gotten to you. But that's just my theory, and I could be very wrong
@user-hy4mo4bg1o10 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Aviles I think they would have grabbed a strong hold on the object that was being used to smash it. SPOILERS!!! DO NOT read if you haven't seen the ep. The Angels Take Manhattan!!! Like in the episode The Angels Take Manhattan where Riversong looked away for like a sec. and the angel had a very tight grip on her.

If there's one thing I wish we could see from Doctor Who that I know we never will, I'd LOVE to know about those forums that were trying to piece this together without context! Like-how much did they figure out correctly, and how much did they assume to be correct that wasn't? It's stated in the video that he's a time traveler, stuck in 1969 with a woman named Martha, running away from aliens he calls "Angels" that turn to stone when you look at them but are very fast when you're not, and he has a "blue phone box" time machine that the angels have taken but mustn't be allowed to use. Beyond that, though, we have NO idea how much those guys would have gotten! For example, how long did it take them to realize the "blue phone box" was probably a 1960s British police box? My mind is racing just thinking about it! Jeez, now I kinda want to do a tier list of what I think they could've easily figured out vs what would've been absolutely impossible lol

What’s even more creepy, is this is a prefect example of a Bootstrap Paradox. The Doctor is reading off a transcript that he got from Sally. But they wrote the transcript off of the words that The Doctor said in the video where he reads the transcript. So, where do the lines of the transcript originate? (More specifically, the Doctor’s lines)
@fc433 ай бұрын
The Doctor got the transcript off of Sally in Sally's future, which is in the Doctor's past before he and Martha sent back to 1969.
