When they failed, they didn't double down to hide it... they understood, that consumer satisfaction comes first. While I'm fairly certain Square isn't free of it's own issues (they do love their microtransactions and mobile games, and as a Japanese company most likely have the same issues with employee treatment most Japanese companies have), it at the very least understands the importance of trust. When you say something like that it just shows that you have a complete lack of empathy and understanding and have no concept of what's actually going on in this landscape. The relationship between gaming content creators and the developers of the games they play is this weird symbiotic relationship where the success of one leads to the success of the other. Some people really can't wrap their heads around that, but to say they shouldn't have gone down that (extremely lucrative) path is simply immature and stupid. To reduce that content to "tantrums" based on "social drama" is quite ridiculous. Activision decision making for Blizzard games more or less seemed to be "Make every game more like Call of Duty, it sells more and appeals to more players (payers) which give more profits so let's just water down and alienate the playerbase of every other game so that we can sell more copies to people who those games were never intended for to begin with" As a result, of course RTS games were going to get the chopping block for how little effort they put into keeping Starcraft alive. It's not a matter of whether the game is good or not (and it is good), it just wasn't "profitable" enough for them to care.

No he said "Don't you guys have phones" which is even worse and to make things even worse, ANOTHER Blizzard worker responded with "Yea do you guys not have phones" and then ANOTHER worker made still another comment about it. So it was not all just one guy who made a mistake. It was multiple Blizzard workers who said that. They never apologized for that statement. I wish I would have been the guy holding the mic who they said that to cuz I would have responded with "Dont you guys have programmers who aren't so lazy that they need to release their new games on mobile?" And WHY are almost all of their cinematics released now with terrible graphics? Warcraft 3 the original had better graphics in cinematics than they do now. In Legion they completely 100% copied Legacy of Kain: Defiance with some of their Demon Hunter cut scenes. They just did a reskin on already existing cinematics from LoK:D alpha's game play right after he goes down into the pit and glides down past the rocks. They got away with that so then they decided to copy the LoTR RoTK tower fall and got caught with that one. Bad graphics and stolen graphics is what this company does now.

Thats because it's a stupid business practice. Maybe 10 percent of customers ask for extra sauce. In my opinion charging 29 cents is not worth the customer going elsewhere next time because you wanna make an extra $5-10 per day in profit. Some places charge for them in some locations, but it's inconsistent. The vast majority do not, so most customer do not expect to have to pay if they request an extra sauce packet. The best way to get around this is just to go back up to the counter after you get your food and ask for sauce. They will just hand it to you usually.

Gaming sucks nowadays, only indies remain somewhat good, since the west is all about feminist politics, korean games turned into freemium and outright pay to rekt, and even japanese games have become uninspired copy paste of whatever game broke the current meta, except for the big brands. FWIW any big company operates like a small government, with teams turning into fiefdoms trying to best protect their mote of responsibilities and justify their high paychecks. Not only is sexual harassment a big deal, but even if you’re heavily skilled on the tech end, whether game implementation or programming - you have assholes in the form of teammates that are omnipresent too. Stuff like oldsplaining where older teammates who couldn’t keep up try to tell you something and can’t even realize you’re already doing whatever design pattern they’re telling you about because they didn’t bother to read code. Could be internal politics. I’ve seen managers manipulate multi million dollar deals and other ends of the company take $10,000 dinners before agreeing to a new contract. I work for a major publisher/Dev (think EA, Ubisoft, Epic, Activision. A company of that size) and issues like this are rampant throughout the industry even at the lowest levels of player support. We've regularly had harassment meetings over the past 6 months about this and other related things. Always held by a 3rd party company with no management present thankfully, but without fail in every meeting at least 1 female employee shares a story of something that happened to her at work and cries. Every time. Some go back years, some go back 6 months ago at our Christmas party. And yes, some on the job work parties have had alcohol served without the 1 per person limit being enforced. Employees have been fired over adding free games to their personal accounts and friends accounts, fired for working off the clock, and fired for not meeting productivity standards, people (including me) held back from promotions for not sucking up to the company and caring "too much" about my team over metrics, yet I've never once in 3 years heard of anyone being fired over misconduct like this despite hearing a crying woman explain her abuse once every 2 months in a harassment meeting and being told by that woman that her abuser still works there after having been reported already. As a guy, there are some other really cool guys at work that don't give off bad vibes but then all of sudden stop showing up and people are silent when you ask and you wonder why. It doesn't matter how fun people are or how little you suspect someone, it can ALWAYS be someone you like and you have to confront that and not protect them. It took almost 2 years before any of this harassment appeared on my radar because when 5 guys are harassing you, why would you confide in guy 6? It just creates an environment where people are afraid to even come forward with their experiences because they have to assume the worst in people and fear for their livelihoods if they do decide to say something. It's easier to "suck it up" than it is to possibly have a firing on your record and not be able to pay your bills for who knows how long. A lot of people don't understand why victims can't "just quit" or "Say something". This industry does not play nice with confronting authority figures and the victim almost always loses unless it becomes public like this. I used to dream of working in the games industry, and it still is a dream in many ways, but the more that time goes on the more I want to hide my occupation from people who know anything about the industry.

This is not novel or unique to the gaming industry. Take any managerial/executive person at your workplace and ask them about their goals and motives for their employees. Most of the time they're going to give you a genuinely relatable answer. They want what's best for you...because it's a path of least resistance, and obviously just a moral choice as a human being. The crux being that life will never allow that to happen, by way of individuals that love to exercise their free will. And as people do so, you get this wonderful feedback loop of good folks who make bad decisions in trying to keep the status quo, trickling down to their underlings, and back around again.

I left wow when they had obviously abandoned Starcraft. I came in with Starcraft and Diablo..never played Warcraft. My friends and I did level and game design..at that time there were many enthusiasts. Blizzard left Starcraft like a red headed step child, and none of us ever got over that. We tried to create new game play, which worked well. We even did our own voice acting. But after a couple of years it became obvious that it wasn't going anywhere with Blizzard, so we all just quit. We were the few long time MMO players that never hopped on the WoW train. We played DAoC into the ground, Ultima, and others. We saw WoW as a step backwards, as the story seemed staid and simple, and the gameplay experience was too restrictive. WoW succeeded initially because of it's art, not is story. It was the first truly mass market MMO. That's why we, lifetime OG gamers, didn't enjoy it. I play it now, here and there. But the creativity behind it was never that great. It was just decent, and the art was great, the mechanics were addictive, and so it got traction. WoW has never been great. It has been successful in the marketplace, but it's never been great. What they did was capture enough young players who didn't know better, gut then hooked and identified with it and profited. They are Coca Cola, and have never been a fine wine. That's fine. But they were never great. It was the players that made it great. The player base was so invested, playing the game was great. I was never drawn in by this because I already had years of MMO and tabletop. But that's what happened. Don't put Blizzard up on a pedestal. They were lucky. It was YOU that made the game great.
