Thanks for this in depth review. This album is a huge step above Mother. Ritual is still my fave. My biggest issue is her vocals every single album. She has such a beautiful voice for clean vocals, doesn’t need any effects.

This album is actually produced only by Kane Churko, who is the son of Kevin Churko. Tyler Bates, who did music for the John Wick franchise and Marilyn Manson, co-wrote and produced 2 songs of this album: Everything Starts and Ends with U and Fate Bringer. The previous album, Mother, was produced by both Kane and Kevin Churko.

These songs sound like something a theme park would play during their halloween spooky night as background music. "This is what those gothic kids listen to right??"

This kind of music sounds like sound engineering soup. It’s something I feel is good to a producer but not wide audiences.

@@PatrickMusilek it’s the type of music that somewhat fits into near future/cyberpunk styled themes but outside of a movie or game most of it doesn’t work for me. I think it could work behind something such as a movie or game, just not on its own. Would you listen to this album in leisure time? Or is it more for reviewing and then not picking it up again?

@@MetalMilitia83 definitly not worth my time to listen again. I can just listen to one of their really great albums if I want to hear ITM!

Bjork's original version of Army of Me is SO. MUCH. BETTER. The drums ARE huge and iconic. This is from her album "Post" released in 1995. Also, think about the Fleetwood Mac song, "Dreams." It's only two chords the whole time, but they do so much with the vocals and other instrumentation that you don't even realize that. The lesson is that if you repeat the same thing over and over, it can be done with variety.

Why is music still so compressed and loud when the primary way to consume it is streaming (or youtube) and not the radio? Is it an aesthetic choice at this point?
@PatrickMusilek
@PatrickMusilek Жыл бұрын
Great question. I think the lower the quality of speakers a person is using to listen, the more the music benefits from being over-compressed. I see a lot of quality bluetooth speakers being sold nowadays all over the place, so hopefully people buy them and that leads to less crazy compression. We are already doing so much better than we were 10 years ago, but we can always do better!

In This Moment, is one of my top five favorite bands. This album is good for what it is, but my lease favorite of their albums. It sounds too different from all of their other work. It's not one song that grabs me right away. This is an album I'm gonna have to listen to without expectations and learn to love. A star crossed wasteland, is the first In This Moment album I listened to. The gun show, is the first song I heard, but when I heard Just drive, I was like, I have to have this!

I like this dudes videos but after that last video with in person Chris, where pat is banging his head to a clutter of Campbell soup can noises and car backfire and Chris is visually disturbed by how bad it is, I don’t know how I can respect this dudes opinion on Metallica or anyone for that matter when he’s so ecstatic for that garbage and will find anything possible to hate on music unless it’s something he already loves whether it’s that the mix isn’t absolutely stellar or some other minute detail but is overjoyed with that garbage that wouldn’t win a junior high talent show. I don’t get this guy. All in fun👍

I dont know myself that she can do the same vocals that she has done in the albums before Blood....I think thats why they changed her style...now for some reason she almost has some sort of accent, that is not a upstate New York accent. I got into them at the Blood album, but they have become kinda predictable for the albums since

I agree with you about all your problems with ITM. But you should most definitely give Björk's newer material a try. I understand its not everyones taste compared to her earlier work. Theres stuff I think that you would enjoy on Vulnicura released in 2015. Very grandiose string arrangements paired with really cool electronics and production. She worked with Arca as well on that record and Arca is one of the greatest and most mindbending producers today. Her work on Utopia that was released in 2017 was awesome too imo. So cool how she mixes birdsongs, flutes and electronics together. Its not everyones cup of tea i get that but its super admirable to try to tackle a sound palette as diverse as that. I'd rather listen to Björk screaming than listen to any of ITMs recent output lol

@@PatrickMusilek that's awesome!!! Even if it's your not cup of tea there's moments that are really special on that album. Stonemilker, Lionsong, History of Touches, Black Lake and Family are some of her best songs ever imho. Took a few listens for some of them to really grab me but man when they do they GRAB ya lol. Stonemilker is probably the most Homogenic sounding song she's released since.

I think my biggest issue with watching through this is how absolutely negative this is. Idk, it’s one thing to voice your opinions but this is just so goddamn negative in attitude and tone. It’s like you didn’t come in with an open mind and you set the tone before the album started. I’ll admit, huge fan of ITM here. LOVE them. But there are things I don’t necessarily love that they do. But this was just so negative.

@@dylanno1fan I want them to surprise me, but after so many disappointing albums in a row it's just hard for me to become excited and start from a place of positivity. I would say that I at least try to articulate in specific ways why something is bothering me or why I don't like it. I feel like most reaction channels rely on only positive reactions. But since we try to focus on production a little bit more it's easier for us to focus on tangibles that we can explain a little bit... Or at least that's the goal.

Nothing will be compared to their first three albums. After Blood I felt that they fell off and are not just following mainstream sounds. A friend of mine saw them in their last tour and she clearly heard backing vocals especially during the screaming part and she said that it feels like she's losing her voice each time. The theatrics get boring after awhile
