It's wild that bl actors will be called homophobic simply for not being gay

okay i feel like we should clarify some of these more especially the ones that happened years ago. in turkish, sexual orientation and gender are more conflated than they are in english. it doesn’t sound good translated, but it’s a common way of saying straight. also iirc he was 17 then. as for krist, he responded so strongly because he had been getting asked repeatedly and was being bullied by fans. we see this even now where because he’s a shy person in real life, he often gets overwhelmed and needs to leave social media to get away from the people who call themselves his fans. they even ruined his relationship with singto to the point that singto left gmmtv for a time and then once he came back they started all over again. he can’t even hang out with fluke irl because he acted in a couple with him and the kristsingto fans get upset. he agreed to start training for bls all the way back as a 16 year old and also remember that back then, bls were not this big cultural phenomenon. that trend really didn’t take off until his show sotus.

Thank you for bringing a voice of sanity to the comments! Quite a bit of context is glossed over or missing entirely. The ages of these actors during these incidents is ignored. Even the timeframe these issues occurred isn’t mentioned. I’m not saying some of these issues aren’t controversial or damning and should be glossed over, but it’s so frustrating that ‘fans’ are willing to cling to every kernel of controversy and hold actors accountable with zero acknowledgement to the scope and circumstances.

Yes, Krist had been asked that question over and over and over and he'd answered it over and over and over, and still people kept asking it. Never mind that it's a super intrusive question about a very personal thing which random strangers don't have any right to know about, they also never listened but kept asking. The one time he lost his patience and got mad has followed him around ever since. He's also apologised for it. It was years ago and should be water under the bridge, but people still keep dragging it up, as if we don't want to accept that actors are people too, or that people can grow and change.

Bl is not a cultural phenomenon. Let's clarify that. It is a sexual orientation in society that gets disregarded, bullied, sullied and sometimes to the extent that the victim commits suicide. Now these bl actors are not here to bring awareness about any such thing. They just want overnight fame. Actually they r disrespectful to the community by exhibiting hypocrisy. It is okay to straight but why mock other orientations? If u r queer and some one asks "r u straight?" They would probably say no. Why do u get offended like being called a murderer? What they r tryn to convey is not wrong but their gestures and words definitely are.

Tbf, where Joong is concerned (I mostly answered the same in another comment), I highly doubt that he is homophobic or anything of that nature whatsoever. I think what people are not understanding is that at the time, there appears to have been a miscommunication/misinterpretation of what Joong said vs what he meant in that particular instance. My understanding is that saying he's a "real man" is the Turkish equivalent to him saying I'm "straight" in English. It is not meant as him saying gay men aren't real men, like people are assuming/accusing him of meaning. How words are used/translated aren't always completely accurate, and don't always convey what the person meant, hence the whole point of the term 'Lost In Translation'. Take the English word straight for example. In another country, they might not get that if it's used in this particular context, it means a heterosexual male and not something that is straight instead of crooked. Or how we say Elevator in North America, but the word for the same thing in England is Lift. If someone came up to you and asked you where the lift is and you're not in England, although it's an existing English word, you might not understand what they're referring to cuz it's not how YOU use the word 'Lift' in every day life. There are even some words/terms that don't even exist in other languages at all and someone translating them has to use what they think is the closest word(s) to convey the same thing and most of the time, it just doesn't translate well and the meaning is lost. As someone who relies on English subs to watch all my BL shows and foreign Dramas, I can tell you just how easily what's being said can get lost in translation or often changes from platform to platform. Words can exist in multiple languages, but are often used differently depending on where you go so the meaning may also end up being different when you don't take context, culture, and translation into consideration. That's what I think happened to Joong in this instance. I don't think what was said was how it was meant (or how it was translated at any rate), because you can clearly see Joong is completely comfortable and has ZERO issues being physically affectionate with Dunk or any guy for that matter, to the point where it's natural behaviour for him and often occurs and is spotted happening away from the camera too. Plus given his age and newbie status at the time, he may have even been TOLD to respond that way BECAUSE the fans were Turkish... who knows? My point is we don't know for sure about any of it and it's all just rumours and speculation... and given how he treats people today, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, actions will always speak louder than words and someone who is homophobic or even uncomfortable in BL roles, professional or not, they can't hide it for very long. So even if in reality he is straight, I'd bet my last dollar that not only is he NOT homophobic, but that he's extremely supportive of the entire community.

@@BoysLoveNerd - Ikr? Tho in all fairness, it might have been worse for him (and the company), if they didn't cuz y'know that in some idiot's mind, they're condoning "that kind of behaviour" if they don't reprimand him for it. However in MY eyes, it meant they're willing to throw any of their artists under the bus to save their own skin. That said, he never should've been asked that question in the first place. People need to learn that an actor's sexual preferences are none of our business. Plus there's a reason BL actors avoid answering that question like the plague unless they're actually in a relationship with their costars and ready to admit it, cuz if they say they're anything other than straight, they'll be condemned to only doing BL roles in the future, bullying from the homophobes, and the absolute insanity from the unhinged fans that will be amped up to insane levels with that kind of admission. If they say they're straight, they'll be dumped by their so-called fans, bullied, and even outright ostracized. Just look at how they turned on the fan favourites Bright and Neo for having a GF, despite Neo being one of the best BL actors out there who can literally create the most sizzling chemistry with absolutely anyone he's on screen with. I'll never understand why fans let het actors be in relationships or act with other partners with little to no backlash, but fans won't let BL actors do the same unless it's with their designated BL onscreen partners. SMDH.

Literally every single one of these "controversies" have been exposed as the products of fake, manufactured outrage by certain fandoms who hate other fandom's faves, so not sure why you're beating this dead horse all these years later. Maybe find something better to do with your time instead of smearing people whose language you don't even speak and whose culture you don't even understand for the sake of creating content that is not even original.

The part about Krist is misleading. He had already received THOUSANDS of questions regarding his sexuality and responded angrily to one of them because he was fed up with the question. Why don't the other thousand people to whom he most likely answered pleasantly come out and defend him? Because his reply doesn't conform to their fujoshi delulu insanity.

Bullshit, stop lying on Gulf! No matter what you say, it is a lie. Everyone knows about your shit. Gulf is not a BL actor. It's been 5 years since TharnType. He only did one series, and he was very young and naive. He hasn't done any BL since. Gulf has never discriminated against anyone. You need to be called out for doing this to innocent people. You don't know him personally, so how can you determine what he likes and doesn't like? You choose to do this to Gulf because you hate him. Gulf was with Mew, why isn't his name mentioned?

Gulf was also on the other side with attacks from fans after they found out he was dating a woman, and fans demanded he apologize. I am wondering if that was one reason he doesn't want to do BL any longer. Fan-service can ignite very wrong ideas. Not all fans remember, nor want to remember that all of these BL ACTORS are actors, not married or promised partners with their co-stars. Gulf was a good actor, but if BL brought him too much stress and mental harm, well fine, he can get out of it and still do well. I am sad about the bullying, I never, ever support bullying.

We need to be a little less sensitive. At the same time we need to be protective and supportive. I had to wait for 50 years to be able to see BL accepted and available for me to view. I am grateful to be here to see BL now. I had to live through times when it was deemed 100% acceptable to beat gay men. To see people not tolerating that kind of abuse is good, even if everything is not yet how I want it to be. While I don't approve of all the things the companies or actors do, I am sure some things I've done or do would upset people of other cultures, too. I can like someone as an actor, but be disappointed in them as a person. Sh*t happens. I try to be a reasonable person and avoid name calling. And I am encouraged when the BL actors seem to grow as people, also. None of us are perfect, but we can and should get better.

❤ Yes, exactly! Beautifully said! There’s too much of a ‘gotcha’ culture going on today and it completely ignores context and reality. ‘Fans’ would rather be the ones to catch their ‘favorite’ actor in some dumb controversy to exploit it for their own benefit. It’s like, in their minds, no one can ever have been a dumb kid, or can have had their views change as they gained knowledge and maturity. I mean, geez, I was a kid in the 80s and LGBTQ representation in media was nearly nonexistent. Not that I would have even understood or accepted it at the time, because I had zero exposure and no way to learn. As you said: being able to watch shows like this so readily is a luxury that younger fans don’t know or appreciate! And it’s beyond frustrating to see so many ‘fans’ trying to burn it all down over something as insignificant as a ship. Sadly, I’m seeing way too many comments on this video alone that are just ready and willing to accept all of these ‘controversial issues’ as fact with no question…

Krist didn't homophobic. The situation there was, he got harassment from a group of haters, the haters will go what ever his live, his live with friends, his commercial live, every kind platform, and only comment is he gay or not, no matter the topic he and friends talking or MC talking, the only haters comment is his sexuality, and most of fans, knew he already has a gf before Sotus shooting, he only an actor, and maybe straight, we don't know, but he was really young and new in the industry, but those non-stopped harassment maybe maintain months, he kind snapped at that point, and then they caught his snapped, turned this to his problem, until today still some stupid people call him homophobic, also the harassment not only those things, there had many insulting post, targeting his look, his gf, his everything in that timing, the haters really disgusting, I still remember that time I still student, I'm so shock when I read those post, about how they targeting Krist only bc he maybe straight. Also the big joke maybe, few years later some fans accused Mew homophobic, and this time the most funny back to them, yes, Mew is totally gay, they accused a gay man homophobic. Clearly this homophobic thing only a tool to target the actors, to manipulate them, nothing more, bc I saw the same patterns several times, ex. Mean, (LBC) they accused him homophobic too, but this guy actually the one willing wearing dress with his own school friends, to stand LGBTQ in private time when he in college. Many crazy people claim fans but actually haters these days indeed.

@@pennyta9057 what Joong was saying in the post was essentially, “I am straight.’ He was in no way implying anything negative about LGBTQ people being ‘lesser’. That’s a really irrelevant and weird takeaway… especially considering these ‘controversies’ aren’t necessarily being called out by fans in Thailand. It’s often the international audience who gets so up in arms (i.e. not just America, not just Thailand, etc…). (Also, most of these are years old issues… this video is very far from current.) Sure, some of these issues are presented without context and ignorant of reality and are certainly the result of a zealous fan base holding their idols to higher and unrealistic standards. Which is ridiculous and asinine. But some of these are real issues. They’re not ‘woke virtue signaling’, ffs. Let’s be honest, your comment is just dumb.
