A TARP ALONE WONT KEEP COLD OUT.....bexbugoutsurvivor

In this experiment I use a USGI woobie on the hammock ridgeline to block out the cold air from entering my lungs as I breath at night, a job a tarp alone will not achieve.......bexbugoutsurvivor

Good tip! I use a CPAP and my portable version does not have a heater. I stuff most of the air tube under my top quilt to warm the air. As a bonus, with a constant supply of air, I pull the top quilt over my head and get all warm and cozy in my little cocoon.

Love the poncho liner, a much underrated piece of kit

I already figured that using both UQ and insulated pad would improve insulation below. Hadn't thought of getting a poncho liner and draping it over the ridgeline, so thanks for that.

good idea, i have done similar in the past, only using the woobie as a under blanket and tying it to the ridge line. ... my method currently is to use a goretex bivi bag as you demonstrated before to make a cocoon for the hammock. (have also made a similar Down and Canvas bivi bag set up)

I noticed a few years ago when I used my DD netted hammock, the bug net alone kept alot of the night chill at bay, a Woobie should keep things toasty. The bivvy bag around my hammock and 90 pat cocoon was the warmest ever, cut the air convection down to nearly zero. But hammocking with specialist Goose down and hyper light kit, the pack load and weight is about 1/8th the weight of MYOG kit..... A tip just for you only, as I know you like myself don't always use sleeping bags above freezing, have had great success with my highlander windBreaker rain trousers. Crap to walk in (don't breath) but is like a bivvy bag for your legs. Am meeting up with my mate from 23 very soon, so will ask him about the Norwigian ECW jacket for you, this combined with the Highlander windbreakers, a real must....all the best Bex

@@bexbugoutsurvivor ... i often use the softie suit as a sleeping bag, although recently i have been trying a few different set ups based around a decent parka, and something on my legs ... speaking of which i bought a vintage wool duffle coat, which i am trying on the next trip (i might end up looking like general Montgomery thou, lol) ... my foam blanket arrived from the usa (its like a woobie on steroids) ... and hm customs got me for £45.
