Mike, love your channel. Real pro's like you showing how it's done is WAY better than a TV show that is produced by someone who knows TV production but not the subject matter. Which is what one finds on TV.

Todd, and that's exactly why TV is a dead medium. Bumpers, commercials, obnoxious hosts, etc. Nothing but a waste of time & money. Mike [and so many like him] puts out excellent info at a cost of a small amount of time and next to zero money. As opposed to TV, which is the opposite. TV is dead and I'm glad I lived to see the execution of it. I will not be going to the funeral LOL

Mike this brings me to a point. What is the purpose of capping the top of a foundation with a solid block? I see some foundations without top caps and some with the top caps of similar era homes. Where I live there are top caps. I heard it has to do with moisture, I heard it may have to do with giving your sill plate a more solid surface, I heard insect prevention. But, what is the real purpose of the solid top cap unless I just named them? Thanks!

Mike, greatly appreciate your efforts on doing video's and teaching us the trade skills. QUESTION: I'm blocking in a window with cider block. The area where the new block is to be placed had extrior paint. Will I have to remove the paint before setting blocks? If so, how do I remove it? Florida block & stucco.

Hi Alvarez, I never had a problem laying anything on or against paint, as long as It is pinned so it won’t fall away, my opinion, I hope it helps, mike

Mike, I see you added a few Pilasters after the original plan to support the walls. I understand it was not planned because you had to drill your foundation and break your other bricks. What was the reason or indicators that made you add the additional Pilasters? Thank you.
@MikeHaduck7 жыл бұрын
Hi PlayGIrl, I had a meeting with the roofer and he wanted the one against the brck building to hold his main beam, and the other side I knew the wall was long so I wanted it for extra support, especially in a windy area, after a while you can just feel, I guess that is my best answer, thanks mike

I’m not sure if you answer questions but I have a pilaster I need to replace supporting a wooden beam. It’s old block with sand inside. It has 16 and 8 inch block. The beam is only 6 in wide, can I just use 1 row of 16 to support it or do I need to use 24 inches like is there

I have been watching you videos and learnt a lot. This video I did laugh somewhat, I know that certain areas call things different names, in English, as in UK, it is called Pilaster, that's Pil-a-ster not Pi-laster. Sorry but I did have a good laugh. keep up the good work.

Whenever you get to the top, is that piece of rebar you put in reaching all the way down to the footer? And if not how do you determine how long you want the rebar?
@MikeHaduck6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cameron, rebar is usually pieced from the footer right to the top and connected to the anchor bolts that connect to the plate, There was no rebar in the old castles or old buildings it’s just the modern thing for modern buildings, Everything depends on what your building and What the building is designed for, hope it helps thanks , mike
