Love the idea of having 3 people ride 3 bikes, great perspective and comparison. Love that they're 3 different heights too. One thing I'd suggest is in the future rather than say "this bike" say "the bolt" or "the harley" as with 3 people constantly changing bikes saying "this bike" becomes confusing.

I have a yamaha bolt and they are awesome bikes. it has power but you can tune it so it up to you. sportsters and scout are nice but the throw in of the bolt and sportster feels better to me

Totally A Panda take it from me it’s crazy addicting to modify this bike is. I figured I was done with the build and wanted to start over with a street bob. Went to the Harley dealer and I straight up didn’t like it. It felt small, the controls were almost behind me, and I didn’t FEEL any more well made. I’m truly convinced you only get a Harley if you care about Harley status. MUCH better bikes out there. Bolt over street bob for me. One day when I go bagger I’ll probably go Harley though.

I own the 2020 Indian Scout Bobber and I love it. I went into the purchase knowing that I’d be spending another $1000 right away replacing the medieval torture device (seat) and the potato cannons (exhaust), but after a Corbin seat was added (amazing) and installing V&H slashcuts it’s just about perfect.

Agreed. Own a 2020 sportster and find it very hard to hit neutral at first. But realize I was holding the clutch too much. Now I only hold it slightly “tighter” than the friction zone and can hit neutral pretty easily.

I've had my eye on upgrading from my Kawi Vulcan S up to an Indian Scout Bobber, but I was recently tempted with how much cheaper the Iron 883 was. Now you guys have confirmed my decision to stick with the Indian. The Iron might be more affordable upfront, but overtime the Scout might be a better option in the long run.

Even if you did decide to go with the 883 it would have been a waste.For $1000 more you can jump to the 1200 and it would be alot more fun and useful.The Harley's are way more customizable though which is what everyone overlooks.The sportster engine overall has been a bulletproof engine for years why do you think they have been pretty much the same just very very minor changes.

Fantastic video, thanks so much for creating this. For beginner cruiser riders like myself, this info is massively helpful. I especially love how Pedro offered his perspective as a Tech and a rider, noting the 'cool points' and versatility of the Harley but recognizing that the everyday rider does this as a hobby and price very much matters. Anyone with automotive background knows that the cost of a vehicle only STARTS at the pricetag; it's the upkeep that you really feel. I ride a 1980 Yamaha XS850s, first bike, love it. I have always liked Harleys and because of a deal through a friend use Harley riding gear. Yet, everything I have seen and heard has convinced me to upgrade to an Indian.

I might agree on a Harley being expensive to maintain if he was talking about a big twin but when I had my 883 Sportster I barely had to do any work to it at all. Mostly fluid changes when they were due and a few adjustments every riding season and it was good to go. It doesn't even have a chain.

My 48 is the same way. Fluids, maybe tighten a couple bolts, and good to go. I run it pretty hard, too. Anyone who says Sportsters are unreliable doesn't know what they're talking about. Thing is built solid and the engine is bulletproof.

Very good reviews, the Bolt was criticized for lack of power but it is faster then the Iron. But it lacks in exhaust sounds. The lady placed the Iron first but it might be a biased opinion but being a new rider it's normal to pick what you bought. And that's why we have test like these to give everyone opinions. The Bolt actually has more torque than the 883 iron and lower down, 59ftlb at 3000 vs 54ftlb at 3750rpm for the 883

Looking at the bikes I guess it makes sense to compare them, but the Scout is leagues ahead of either of these other bikes. The entry level scout is faster than the “big boy” sportster. They are not in the same league. The bolt is fine.

When I worked at Harley. We took in a Yamaha Bolt 975.! And the first time I rode it. I was surprised. Had a lot of fun on it.!! It felt like a Roadster. But fun in a different cool way.

I have a Dyna now and I used to own an 883 Sportster that I toured over 20 states on. The Dyna is more tall-friendly but the Sportster engine is a MUCH more reliable design than the big twin. And with Roadking shocks, taller bars, forwards, and a Mustang wide seat the Sportster was comfortable up to 500-800 miles per day.

Sadly that air cleaner is the entire reason I didn’t buy a bolt. I knew I was going to ride a lot and I wanted something that was fairly narrow. The sportster and bolt fit my price range in the used market along with the shadow. The shadow felt too fat for me so i looked at a bolt without starting the bike that air cleaner was hurting my leg within minutes. Ended up going with the sportster because the uncomfortable seat was my only real complaint

Two Wheeled Adventures lol, you can always change the air cleaner, cheaper than a seat. Bolt is the best out of the 3, because reliability is more important. That 950 engine has been going strong for 11 years, never heard of anyone having a single issue with that engine. Yamaha has been #1 in reliability for many years.

I own an Indian Scout and my roommate owns a new Low Rider S, so I've been lucky enough to ride both. The Low Rider S definitely has more low-end torque off the line, but once the Indian gets above 4000 RPM it's game over for the Harley as far as speed and power are concerned. Comfort will vary based on your height and preference. I think the Indian handles better and is more willing to turn in, but the double disk brakes on the front of the Harley give it a lot more power and confidence for braking. But then again you're comparing a $13-14K Indian to the $19-20K Harley. Both great bikes, but my Indian will take a stock M8 any day, particularly once I can get north of 4000 RPM. But neither of us bought our cruisers to drag race anyway. They're both powerful, beautiful bikes.

It's fun how perspective change from one person to another/ I tried all 3 motorcycles except it was the iron 1200 not the 883 and the scout bobber not the normal one. I felt too tall on the scout and really didn't like it. The 1200 was the most comfortable to me and the bolt close second. I was ultimately going for the bolt but no Yamaha dealer did have any bolt, must of them were also Indian dealer so I think they tried to push the Indian product. In the end, my only regret with the iron 1200 is I should have gone for the roadster because I'm modding it like one anyway. I still wonder if I should have chosen the Triump Bonneville t120 or the Bonneville scrambler however.

You can do alot more with the sportster than the other bikes too which most people don't realize the customization options are endless.Everytime I see an indian or a bolt they look exactly the same as the last one I saw just different exhaust.Everytime I see a sportster or any other harley(except for the streetglide and roadglides) they look completely different than the last one.Everyone complains about how harleys vibrate too much but have you ever heard a chick say that?? I live in the UK and I am interested to know what the price of each bike is on the road (taxes and registration costs paid) at the moment in the UK a sportster 883 iron costs less than the Bolt and the scout (the 1200 scout is about the same money as a 1200 sportster) is this the same in the USA . For this reason the Bolt has not sold well in the UK since it was launched despite arguably being the better bike (it also costs more than a MT 9 which is also plain daft) .

I'm Here to Say I know the sportster line is a good seller it is a good cheap reliable Harley that has a massive supply of parts both Oe and aftermarket . My question is about the bolt which in the UK has not sold in the numbers that I think Yamaha expected but has sold well in the USA I can only think it is the price . I remember the launch and the press coverage along with the advertising campaign and the dealer competition but I have only seen one on the road and very few on eBay .

I chose the Yamaha back in 2016 over the others because of the small impact on my wallet, Yamaha’s quality and the bikes potential. Drop in a quality Intake, exhaust and (optional) ECU flash for more power and it’ll still come out cheaper than the other two. Love my Bolt.

I really wanted to get into an Indian Scout last spring, the salesman talked me out of it to take the safety course first. And after watching a couple dozen riding videos from a few random channels, I'm spooked! The only way I'd ride a bike now is if the roads were completely empty, and how often does that happen? Motorcycles will remain a dream.

You should take the course even if you don't get your motorcycle license. You can see if it is something you want to pursue and it's fun riding around an empty parking lot. Doing the boxed figure eights and stop/takeoff without putting your foot down are some of the fun little challenges you practice. The techniques you learn can help you become more of a defensive driver in a car too. Riding on the road is definitely different and you should be confident with your skills in an empty parking lot before trying to ride in traffic.

The dealer I spoke of talked me out of the bike when he heard that I hadn't ridden in 25 years. The city has postponed holding classes, but I heard recently that the Harley Davidson dealer in the next town is still holding classes.

I rode the Harley, it’s super hot and was about burning my leg. Rode the bolt and the airbox was in an awkward place and was unforgettable to ride (for me and my height/leg length) and I was very disappointed on the power. Never rode the Indian, but I hope it’s better than the other 2.

I absolutely loved that video; pretty new into motocycles I'm still debating which one to get and those 3 models are exactly the ones I'm looking into (except I'm rather considering the scout sixty), I loved to hear the pros and cons; especially that last comment about the money I'm ready to put into maintenance; another point to consider also is the price; idk about the market in your area but where I live, there are so little used Indians out here that even used they are still way more expensive then the Iron 883 or the Bolt.

Let me start this off by saying I've only ever ridden 3 bikes. The bolt that I own, a HD 883 iron, and a HD heritage softail. I was shocked when she said that the bolt lacked in get-up-and-go because my bolt is way quicker than the other 2 I mentioned. Is it really a slow bike? Man I need to test drive more!

As a diehard Harley fan and someone who was raised around them and the lifestyle I do have to surprisingly say that I absolutely love my Bolt!!! In my opinion it is a better Sportster than the Sportster! It's like Yamanahamana took the classic Sportster and just stepped it up a notch! It has awesome styling, great feel, and more power than the Sportster 883. Power wise it's actually much closer to the Iron 1200 even though it's a 950. The Bolt just has a lot of torque and pull. It doesn't matter what gear you are in, when you twist the throttle on a Bolt it just keeps pulling hard. I do think the stock exhaust is horrible though. Way too quiet, way to big, and looks more like it belongs on a crotch rocket than a cruiser. That is quite easy to fix however, and was one of the very first upgrades I made within like a week of owning my Bolt. When you do change the exhaust and open it up the Bolt does have a very nice throaty sound and rumble. It's obviously a different rumble than the beautiful sound of a Harley, but it is it's own kind of awesome rumble that lets you know it's alive and definitely an air cooled V-twin. Just overall if you are looking into a Sportster styled and sized bike I don't think anyone would be disappointed in the Bolt, and possibly even more pleased with it. Even the most diehard of Harley fans like me.

I have an 883 with a stage 1 & forward controls. I'm 5'3" & I love it. I personally didn't care for the Bolt. I felt cramped on it & the Rebel.

Hey cool vlog. I own a Chieftain limited and used to get a scout as a loan bike I’m 5’7” and the forward controls on the scout suck, with the stock bars, but the 2020 scout has half apes and they ride awesome you’re not leaning over tank as much. I own an iron 1200 with a stage 1 it’s an awesome fun street cruiser it was my daily commute. City traffic cutter, half apes mid controls are the bizz. Can’t wait to see what you do to these 3 bike dude. Haven’t ridden a Yamaha bolt so can’t say but typical Yamaha it will be low on torque and need some serious pipe/air upgrades. Could be the Yamaha is the one you have the most research to do to extract a little more get up and go out of it.

6:09 - 6'4" on an 883 that's me! I'm told I look huge. First bike perfect to train, very enjoyable, not bothered by the size, and easy to cut through Hollywood traffic. What helps it's a 2003 Sportster gunmetal blue with hard case saddlebag compartments that has matching color as the bike originally, making the bike look a bit wider, like a mini Road King. Passing the 883 possibly to my daughter and when I get a bigger bike in the future.

Ecstatic that you did this bike comparison, I'm currently looking to purchase my first bike. And I was looking at the Kawasaki 900 and Vulcan s, Indian Scout sixty, and the Yamaha Bolt. I'm concerned about peg dragging with Scout during turn and if comfort will be issue for 6'2" hight. Prior to your video, I had decided on the Bolt, not sure now. Your thoughts, other than sit on them. Newly licensed, so law where I am won't allow test drive until I've driven for two years, so I need your educated/experienced mind.
