48s come with forward controls stock as well, where the Irons have mid controls. Shadetree has the best quote about modifying Sporties. "You can build a Sportster, and not buy a single part form Harley Davidson." That's how strong the aftermarket is on these. Another great vid, sir.

I took a 4000 mile trip on a new 1974 1000 Iron head summer of 75. I had my first bike a 1965 305 honda scrambler in 11 states. My point is don't call a sportster a city bike. It's all comes down to desire.

In 2016 I bought a Model 48. Things I have changed: 1 1/2" risers to lift me out of the jack knife position. A Harley 3.3 gal tank, I developed range anxiety and now it's a town and country bike instead of just a town bike. Swapped out the alloy wheels, why make a retro bike then put alloys on it. It now sports Harley spoked wheels to help complete the retro look. A Harley spring seat to smooth out the unseen bumps in the road. If I see a bump, I can set myself up for it. The bumps I can't see will travel right up my spine and click my teeth together. Aesthetically, I relocated the coil to relieve the congested look above the front jug and did a 1 1/2" tank lift to wire tuck the wiring harness. Sportsters may not be the fastest motorcycles out there but off the line they are the quickest. I love my Sportster.

You, Shawn Smoak, XXDeadhead, and a few other fly-by-night vloggers encouraged, educated, and sustained me on the Iron. Thanks so much. BLOCKHEAD most dealerships want to push you away from used bikes. I was going after an iron 1200(which I talked to the sales manager about). I got to the dealership and two salesmen intercepted me before I could see the manager, and tried to get me on the new bike. I know my finances and feel like I have a better chance at purchasing used over new. Why is that?

What? Full of lies. Doctors have documented humans lie and they don’t realise they’re lying. It’s fact. Blockhead says skinny front tyres are for cornering. WRONG! He also says to modify your professionally built and tuned bike and get it done by unwise non experts. He scrapes the bike in corners and tells you to boost power so you end up smashing into a tree and tune the uniqueness out of your unique bike. All the videos need to stop!

For me it’s the 1200 Custom, 4.5 gal tank, fat tires, comfy ergonomics. It’s a very comfortable bike that can still be ridden hard in the twisties or cruise all day long. I had an 08 but that 21 in front wheel felt sketchy to me but to be honest I should have kept it. I’m now on a 95 1200 which is awesome but not as comfy as current models, nice vid Block!

I recommend my XL1200C for comfort, seating/foot peg position, chrome, engine size, gas tank capacity, rear suspension travel, and touring capability. Only problems were too long peg feelers limiting clearance (solved when I removed the rear foot rests and used the rear pegs up front), awkward position of the rear turn signals right where you would mount saddlebags, and highway wind buffeting fixed with a handlebar mounted Memphis Shades shield.

Re: sportster reliability: My dad has a 1979 XL1000 Ironhead that he bought in the mid 80s, rode everywhere, customised it, bored it out, broke it down, rebuilt it multiple times and just over 22 years ago parked it. Since then it's sat in a carpenters workshop for about 10 years uncovered, and in our own garage for the past 12 years or so. During quarantine we had the time to put it on a lift and try get it going again and after replacing a starter solenoid and cleaning the tank and oil, it started first turn and runs like a clock. No back firing, spitting, choking, runs just as the day my dad parked it. Absolutely as reliable as anvils.

Great video, man! Who doesn't love a Sportster! Couple of things... 1) H-D introduced the Sportster in 1957. It was basically an overhead valve version of the side-valve KH model. 2)) In 1986 (not '84) Harley introduced the Evolution engine which, as you say, never really adopted the "Blockhead" moniker. Okay, here's the criticism: I've owned three 883's - they're perfect bikes for me. One of them, a 1996 (five-speed, belt drive, solid mount)...my favorite so far...is out in the garage. It's my daily driver and I'll *never* sell this one. Every 883 Sportster I've owned has done 55-60 mpg. (The 1200 does not get as good mileage.) I don't ride like a crazy person, but I'm no grandpa either. 55-60 mpg, routinely. I rode my '05 from Florida to Washington State and back (3,000 miles one-way) and it got 55 mpg on the interstate. Of course, you have to have the jetting right. All of this goes out the window with the '07-and-up models which are fuel-injected, obviously. But...let me say this carefully...if someone is only getting 40-45 mpg from their 883 Sportster, they're probably beating the snot out of it from stoplight to stoplight. Either that or blipping the throttle at stoplights too much. Love the Sportster! They really are bulletproof, indestructible bikes. (Not really good for two-up riding though, if we're being honest.)

I have a 2014 Sportster "48" which I bought new. It's my 3rd. Sportster since 1964. I tend to keep them a long time! Vance and Hines short shot staggered pipes, Bates style solo springer saddle and H/D Screaming Eagle heavy breather air intake system and a stage 1 download and computer remapping. It is spooky fast. Been 5 years and 10,000 miles since purchased and not one problem .

It’s a whole different monster to have an upgraded 883-1200 than a stock 1200. The gearing for the 883 is set lower so you can get some face ripping torque with it like that. Lots of Stunters using sporties do this.

One of the last ones to be imported here in South Africa. 1 of only 4 still available of the 2016 range. Short distance, long distance, around town or driving across country, never has she ever given me any problems. Nice video! Honestly, the Peanut tanks need to go. That place is huge! Roadster is my current favorite!

Tank swaps are super easy! My 2000 has the 3.3 gallon tank, and believe me, after 3 gallons you're ready to get off and stretch a bit. Love my Sporty, but it's true, "The first 100 miles are fun, the next hundred become work."

Old video, new subscriber. Thanks for the overview, it made me a lot more confident of what to get. I don't live in the US, and there are absolutely no dealers anywhere near me. Closest would be one full day ride or an airplane ticket. I have never rode a HD, but I've had numerous Japanese bikes over a period of 40 odd years. To me the Roadster looks like a winner, I like the Iron bikes too but I need a larger fuel capacity than the 48s. I am 6.2 and my riding is mostly steep hills up and down, so both 1200 and better stopping power sounds like a win. Appreciate your effort, and thanks again. /regards from Norway

SHIFTING STATE , your bike is very nice. I saw your video a week or so ago and that’s what made me start looking at getting a Roadster. I can’t wait to throw it into some corners!

Love the channel. I’m just starting to do my license and after a lot of research (and watching this channel) I think I’ve settled on an 883 to start out. Thanks for the great content. This video in particular sealed the deal for me on my decision.

I had a xl 1200 low for a few years before I traded up for a softail. Had it set up with the club style look. I actually liked the sportster more than the softail. Ended up getting rid of the softail as well. Currently in between bikes

I saw a Roadster 1200 (2015) during my driving safety training and boy seeing the real thing is different than seeing it in pictures or youtube videos, it was a very GORGEOUS bike! (still not gonna pay the HD price for it though lol, I'm not paying 15k euro for 70HP.)

Take the sport, strip it, pump up the motor, lower both ends slightly and build it into a barely Street legal mile dirt tracker, you know, like Scott and Chris used to run. . . dreaming a little. Good video. Prices would have been some good information too. Money is still an issue with some Harley owners.
@pamperea89345 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention the fuel tank size on the super low and the 1200c, 4.5 gallons. I’m vertically challenged, 5’ 1” and own a xl1200t, (2015), still can’t flat foot but it’s great to not have to fill up so often!
