Thank you so much for posting this. I remember waiting for this to be on TV 43 years ago as a teenager, then audio taping it. I was a huge fan of all 3 bands. Met Dennis many times in The Truth, and even had to hold Marks harps and pass them to him at a Little Sister gig at Dingwalls. After many years I started seeing them again a couple of years ago. They frequently tour with the re-incarnation of Dr Feelgood. I eventually got my dream guitar, a candy apple red strat to emulate Gypie Mayo. My girlfriend's (1984) ex played in the band that supported at the Live at the Marquee recording, which is a weird coincidence. RIP Lee, Wilko, Gypie, Brian Bethel. Love all of you guys ❤

I once got a lift to the station from Brian Bethell. He was at a Cobras gig at the Red Lion in Brentford and I got talking to him about me learning to play the bass and he was really interested. The Truth never really got the recognition they deserved and after Playground they sort of faded away.

Great story. I was lucky enough to see the Cobras in a pub in Hammersmith. Johnny Guitar was sat at the bar and we spent the evening drinking and chatting as Gypie and the boys played. Lovely guy.

Saw Nine Below Zero at the "Elephant Fayre" in Cornwall 1981....just brilliant and then at the Mick Jagger Centre, Dartford nearly 30 years later. As much fun to watch now as they were then. good to see this doc. Cheers for posting.

What a gem this episode was. The Blues Band, Dr Feelgood and Nine Below Zero. I never saw this programme until 2014 when I saw it on KZbin. Fantastic performaces and interviews with each. This was my conversion to R&B/blues music.

Stans Blues band 1977. Apples and Pears Rotherhithe, probably one of Marks first gigs (?) Dennis wasn't even the lead singer that night. Oh to be young again!

@@djviper3214 No pictures, Great memories. I recall Dennis Jumping off the stage in the Thomas a Becket and without missing a beat, exit the pub with a very long lead and come back in through the other door..... Must be about 20 yards around the corner?

My mate Kenny Bradley was drumming with them back then. Used to go every week up to the Beckett

Only 7yrs after your comment!....I too saw them around 1979 at The Green Man pub, SE18 as Stan's Blues Band, then soon after as Nine Below Zero. Around the same time l first saw The Fabulous Thunderbirds (with Jimmy Vaughan) at The Marquee, Wardour St. Think it was the same year...memory a bit unclear: we all drank Special Brew before we got to a Gig back in those days = all skint😂) Was chasing my now ol' man as a 18yr old at that first Gig. Biggest regret: turning down my sister's offer to go see Dr Feelgood at Lewisham Odean when I was 15, cos she was 'too old' to go with!😂Wasn't we a lucky bunch in Sarf East London back then?!

I remember watching this back in 1981, Dr Feelgood were a better known act, but all three bands were great on this show, I think 9 Below Zero had the best harmonica player, Dr Feelgood, the best guitarist and The Blues Band, the best Singer, but that's just my humble opinion folks.....

all good stuff - eventually have looked them up after watching ep.1 of the young ones for the millionth time. interesting to hear the riff he plays from 3:07 - the same as the middle bit of status quo's "slow train" (on the "Quo" album 1974) - did he get it from there or has somebody else used it on a version of "L&N"? cos it's not really a common riff, or is it, I don't know. Interesting anyway to hear dennis trace his musical influences right back to the black blues originators - Clapton, Richards, beck, page etc. did exactly the same in the 60s, took what they liked from current R&B then found out where it originally came from. Excellent
