I'm a pashtun from Pakistan and was born in the northwest region of the country. I can tell you from my experience that the pashtuns in Afghanistan are ultra conservative and even would consider them going to an extent of calling them extreme in the practice of sharia law. They basically don't want women to have any power or authority in the political landscape since that would greatly corrupt the society like we see in Turkey for instance. Afghanistan is very diverse as there are lots of ethnic groups that live there. There is just no way you can convince them to change or give women rights etc. These are considered colonial ideologies that they don't want. The only thing I don't agree with is limiting education and jobs to women to which I feel is very wrong they should work on fixing that problem.

Having seen the devistating health, social and frankly soul snatching effect of this drug. Credit where credit is due.Not by any means endorsing everything the Taliban decide to do ofcourse. I saw a rather unkind article (that would be easy to find) where some western countries had the temerity to imply the huge spike in Fentyl deaths was to blame on Heroin users being unable to get 'good old Afghan Heroin' and so they where 'forced' to switch to 'dangerouse synthetics'. Same thing happened in the 2000s. In 2000, the Taliban implemented a highly effective ban on opium cultivation, reducing production by 99% in areas under their control. However, this ban was short-lived due to the U.S.-led invasion in late 2001, which led to a resurgence in opium production. By 2004, cultivation reached an all-time high.

This man has become the spokesman for the Taliban. The problem with the Taliban is not only that they deprive women and girls of education, work, and entertainment. The Taliban are an extremely ethnic and fanatical group. They have formed an ethnic government in Afghanistan. A completely ethnic government. While Afghanistan is a multi-ethnic and diverse country, they have completely removed large ethnic groups such as Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, and other Afghan ethnic groups from the power structure. They have not only removed them from the power structure, but they are also carrying out all kinds of oppression and discrimination against them. They are even forcibly taking their lands, areas, and houses and giving them to the Pashtuns. Because the Taliban themselves are Pashtuns, and the members of their government are (99) percent Pashtuns, while the Pashtuns constitute only (30) percent of the population of Afghanistan. I must remind you that in Afghanistan, the Taliban is actually carrying out ethnic and racial cleansing, especially against the Hazara ethnic group, who are religiously different from the Taliban and follow the Shiite religion.

Islam gives women their natural position in society. Women are better in certain roles in work then men and men are better in certain roles. This is how it should be
@Saorsa-ql3 ай бұрын
That does not give men the right to Dictate what women can or should do Women are adults and should have their own agency. To remove that from an adult person is called abuse If women are given adequate supports and not exploited in anyway, they will very often choose to be mothers at home . There are however, many men on this earth have exploited a woman’s position, which is made vulnerable with children.. That is abhorrent and all too common

One question: What constitutes as secular subjects? Do they mean political ideology or philosophy or do they mean math, history, geography and science? In Malaysia, from what I learn in religious schools is things we learn is broadly categorised into fard ain and fard kifayah. Our understanding that secularism in education means, separating religious influences from other subjects. Realising this, we now have many private schools that integrated world subjects with Islamic teachings.

And it's not only work, but the right to education. Afghan doesn't have to encourage women to pursue a higher education or work if their culture is more traditional. But they shouldn't prevent or make it so difficult for women to pursue any level of education, that I believe is haram. Not to mention, if women make up half of your population, you need women in fields of work so that they may help one another. I understand though that countries that are under constant bombardment and oppression from the West are sort of forced to be very traditional in that sense. Like if they don't have the ability to build many schools, the schools that are left would be for the boys since they're obligated to work, which makes sense.

The Pashtun Taliban need to be considerate of the non-Pashtun population in Afghanistan and cater to their norms as well. If they want their economy to grow, they need to not only cater to the existing non-Pashtun population in the country, but also attract non-Pashtuns from outside into Afghanistan. There can be a legitimate pluralist policy that operates according to the framework of Sunni Islam rather than the Pashtun norms.

This is the problem with using 'Urf as a religious source. Ibn Hazm used to be against Qiyas (Analogical Reasoning) and 'Urf (Local Customs) simply because it led to subjectivism and the selling of culture as religion. This doesn't mean Ibn Hazm was against rationality (he was a scientist) or against respecting different cultures; he was in favor of the Qur'an, the Confirmed Sunnah, and Empirical Evidence. Culture should remain culture and we shouldn't sell it as part of the religion. If the Qur'an and the Sunnah shows that women should get an education, then that should prevail over the subjective preferences of the jurists and the local 'Urf. If you ask the Taliban, they would give analogical reasoning and 'urf as a basis for not letting women get an education; so they themselves acknowledge that it's not Islam, it's just Afghan culture.
