Salaams, brother Paul, and thank you. This was an excellent listen. Growing up in Dublin in a very roman Catholic family and at school, which was run by the church, we were taught to fear god and given no explanations. I was terrified of the imagery in our local church, which was massive, like a cathedral. I would have nightmares as a child about those idols. I was more scared of god than the devil !

Bernadettetormey, I would think that the best is teaching children first God's loving (one of his name is al wadud) teaching them to ask God when you need something etc.. God respond, God is merciful and forgive.. later when they become 10 or 12 more about Justice of God etc.. and then later punishment etc... as for Idols I agree, though born muslim first time I visited a church happen to be Catholic I was shocked, my general impression was the place is dark (physically) but the idols gave it even more scary..an air of glo ominess and shad owy feeling, and once I was invited for a wedding when i heard word like "God blo..." and God flesh and the " bread" they ate and the symbolize I was very very surprised and really was taken aback from these expressions about Almighty and drinking his .. or eating his... it caused big impression on me and thought 'NO way that this is part of God's path" I say that with all respect though... I could write pages on detailed feeling in my tour.. if I could summarize the place it was "as if it were museum for the dead" an introduction toward hell I swear with statues with pain and tears and ...... I was not looking to validate my Islamic faith (I was weak at that time not practicing though had strong faith in Allah and that Islam is true) I was not even comparing back then, I visited many churches later.. I was saying my impression now (when I look back and try to express my initial impression) , I sometimes explain more and even my christian friends would say "we enjoy it you should write a book etc"

I don't think that the Qur'an is to be interpreted with the abrogation method as some people imply. One verse doesn't and cannot abrogate the other, instead one verse explains and helps to connect the dots in the Qur'an. If one verse contradicts the other it doesn't mean that it is to be abrogated, rather there's an error in your methodology that makes you think that it contradicts the other verses, but it doesn't. For example, GOD in the Qur'an says that: 1) GOD doesn't wrong any soul at all [4:40] 2) GOD doesn't approve of disbelief for his servants [39:7] 3) Whoever wants to believe, let him believe [18:29]. But in numerous other verses, GOD says that he has power over all things: [2:284] [3:26] [9:39] [67:1]. Does that mean GOD approves of evil and it abrogates the other verses? No. The phrase "GOD has power over all things" simply means that there's no realm where you may desire and pursue corruption and you will not be recompensed for what your hands have set forth. GOD clearly doesn't approve of immorality: [7:28] [17:32]. And GOD knows best.
@jostnamane3951
@jostnamane3951 3 күн бұрын
If you still interpret the Qur'an with that scholarly approved abrogation method (approved by certain factions of scholars), then you have to accept that the GOD of the Vedas is the one true GOD and the only one worthy of worship. Because he says in [RIG VEDA, 10:48, 5] that he is the revealer of true knowledge that is eternal and therefore cannot be abrogated. If you think that the GOD of the Qur'an revealed knowledge that can be abrogated by another flow of true knowledge, then you are basically implying that the GOD of the Qur'an is a Demiurge God and not one true GOD who can only reveal true and eternal knowledge (astagfirullah). It's the question of truth and falsehood, so you cannot be in ᵈᵉⁿⁱᵃˡ at this point. May GOD guide us to the true understanding of the Qur'an free from others' forcefully imposed interpretation.

@@erique-eljoven being a servant of GOD is a state of being, so if you move away from that state, you are no longer in that state of being. GOD doesn't approve of disbelief for his servants because then, all of your toiling on the scripture will not produce any fruits and will go in vain. Just like the Torah tells us that if you turn away it's gonna stop raining, which can be interpreted both literally in historical contexts and metaphorically to mean that the clouds of insightful knowledge will stop raining and providing GODly insights into your mind. Thank you brother Paul for bringing this subject to our attention. Also I love books 🤣. On a related note to the discussion, the reason for our existence is tied in to it to some extent. It would be very hard to understand the intention or purpose of our existence if you don’t accept the Islamic frame of mind of life after death. Once you’ve understood it, it’s very liberating and every suffering is a blessing. I can write extensively of how everything is interconnected and how even hatred is a pointless emotion that you should do away with since it only stains your soul. We can all benefit from having a stroll and contemplate about this matter especially the feelings of gratitude and how every evil may assist you in having a greater clarity of what is good. 🤣

interesting read, thank you Edward, also people think test and trial are in hardship, but they are in blessings too : not only wealth, and health, beauty , if a person is very attractive and or charismatic he/she receive many signs and indication or invitation and temptation.. etc etc.. Same with intelligence, some may use it to manipulate or mislead others, same with education etc.. I see what you mean about interconnection , 100% agree it is fascinating subject.. it even increase depth in our understanding. Also wealth can be given "in advance" for good deed from non muslims for their contribution like in medicine, transportation making life comfortable .. Some of these deeds were done for goodness some for money but produced great ease for many, so when will God give them such reward! In this life, hence you see certain people /regions are doing well because they did their homework and some good deeds so God give them the full reward in this life but no share in the next because Faith is essential..

Salaam! 36:36 everything created in pairs. The law of opposites, ying and yang, etc. In regards to qadar, there is a tradition that goes, " a person asked Ali (R.A.) explain our relationship to qadar! Ali( R.A.) said, lift your right leg and hold that position, now raise your left leg, our free will is in between that"! So humans have free will within boundaries of Allah's creational process! Quran states whatever good happens to you is from Allah, whatever evil happens to you is because of what your own hands have brought upon yourself! We have Dunya and Akhirah, and the Believers are taught to use the Dunya to aquire success in the Akhirah. Success and failure are what Allah has established! Allah knows best!

@@bamboo1763 worst argument ever. it really tells you a lot about the average IQ of an atheist person when you see comments like this all over the internet, so keep em coming. It's like asking why a father that loves his child more than anything but sees him eating nothing but candy and spending time playing video games all day would try to limit the amount of candy he eats and time he spends playing. in the child's eyes at that time, his father is evil and doesn't want him to have fun but obviously the father knows better and knows where that will lead and is doing it for the long term benefit of his child.

@Myssiah 3 күн бұрын
@@bamboo1763 That's because of your narrow minded view and stubbornness to accept that there is more than this earthly life. that's your fault, no one else's. for people that accept there is an eternal afterlife, suffering for a few years with terminal illness and getting higher rewards in Jannah or dying before reaching adulthood and getting a shortcut to Jannah without needing to face this life's trials and tribulations can be seen as a much better alternative. we as Muslims are completely at peace with that knowing these things. that's why you see people in Gaza with happy smiles even when everything around them is destroyed and they feel no safety because they know that fact to be true and that this temporary life is just the first step to something much greater. Also, your second phrase is meaningless, and I am saying this from personal experience. it only applies to an atheist living in a nihilistic reality. I too was once living such life and it's only through trauma that I was able to get back to God and understand things much better and see all the signs. and if it wasn't for that, I would've committed suicide and in fact atheists have the highest suicide rates for that very reason. Also, living through these difficult times allows you to appreciate the perfect life waiting for you in the afterlife much more. Much like how a person that works out and eats healthy would feel a lot more satisfaction and happiness than someone that just cheats and takes steroids without putting in the effort.

Assalamo alaikom brothers, About Gaza the perspective of Gaza lessons for all the world but especially Muslims,is 2 major lessons, one is the true free Muslim who can free himself from fear,bad feelings,materialism…all evil , he won’t have problem to be ready to die if it was ment to happen,because the Gaza people are the most free people on the earth right now. They believe in god destiny the bad and the good of it. The second lesson is that this modern western civilization is only taking us as humans to inhuman state where the powerful sets up the rules and can decide to eliminate other people that don’t agree with,don’t believe the same beliefs ,don’t look like him,or are in his way to make more money and power. But thank Allah this is changing in the west ,slowly but surely,alhamdolillah!

I understand what you are getting at, but the problem of evil is a lot more nuanced and complicated than what you are making it out to be. Consider a tsunami that wipes out a city. Who is that a test for? People are swiftly killed and taken away in an instant. How could this be a just test? We can also consider a situation aside from human suffering. What about animals? Lets say an animal in the woods gets a sick or hurt and undergoes immense pain for the rest of its life. Unlike a human, the animal isn't even able to understand why it's hurt. It has to just endure the suffering with no clue as to why. So I ask you, who is this a test for?

why we need to rationalized everything including the "God create intention or not"? Since rational itself prescribed by our capacity to imagine, patternalized, that will always associate with our assumption about a things. That's prove our limits. If we need to rationalized intention, then we need to understand what intention itself presicely as the concept, first. Second, we need to know what this concept related to our question (in this case did God Create Intention). But since Intention itself was built-in, then we cannot make sure what the intention really is, how it works, how it related to other things, because so much chance that could be bias. That's the 1 problem that could identified yet. I'll make it easy: Intention that we know could be incomprehesif (that might be false also). So, when we trying to run the logic in some condtion (in this length-> 27:30 - 27:37 ) we could fall to semantic problem.

When "evil" is discussed when it relates to God and why God is being "put to question" for the existence of evil, humans do not have the right to rephrase the question over and over to make it look like evil pertains to them and what they think "evil" is. If evil is put to question, then it should go along the lines of "what does God define evil as" rather than " what do humans define it as". Humans are subjective, every concept and every definition works individually to each one of them. To God, however, every concept is generic and applies to everything - we are all creatures of Him, nothing is exclusive. Evil is not what you define it as, it is what God defines it as. Otherwise, your whole discussion makes no difference, you're just listing new understandings of evil and how it is contemporarily - it is not the absolute truth.

thats my thinking too... although id correct you by saying that its not these gentlemen questioning God its the non believers... when you make dawah to such people, questions like these can genuinely come up and you need to be able to answer them. The whole premise of "the problem of evil" is wrong... its a problem for us sure but its not a problem that negates God's existence... its simply a tool with which non believers and believers are seperated... free will gives us the choice between good and evil...those that choose good when through trials and tribulations win and vice versa... its simple and elegant... but of course in practice its extremely difficult... hence the people that win(monineen) have such high ranks

Even though there's truth to what you just said, you seem to be implying something else in your Weltanchauung while trying to write a coherent comment. Yes, humans are fallible, therefore we can come to subjective realisations about anything including what consists of "evil" but again, that's coming from our cognitive error [Ibliss]. We do have an innate moral compass to judge things, and we can choose to deviate from that innate disposition as a criterion and revert back to it if we want. Deep down, no evil person denies the nature of their actions even if they proclaim [by their tongue] that their actions are justified to instill fear in the hearts of people around them.

So in conclusion: 1) Yes, there's an objective criterion to define evil unless you are a ⁿⁱʰⁱˡⁱˢᵗ (even most Atheists don't come to the realisation that their worldview ultimately leads to ⁿⁱʰⁱˡⁱˢᵐ). 2) Humans aren't subjective, we have an objective Moral compass enjoined upon every Bashar to judge things, but subjective realisations can happen due to humans having a tendency to fall into Cognitive errors/Ibliss. 3) GOD doesn't approve of evil, it pretty much comes from our own fallibility, GOD is the revealer of true knowledge and understanding.

The word Meezan - balance comes in repeatedly in the Quran. It’s a statement that there’s balance in the existence of everything opposing each other , created by Allah swt. The world cannot exist in a one sided state of total bliss. You wouldn’t know what joy is without experiencing sorrow, similarly peace without experiencing war, happiness without suffering and good without bad. Happiness can never be defined without the word suffering. If there was no balancing opposing orbital force centripetal against centrifugal the universe would destroy itself. Nothing good happens without the bad next to it. Thats how. Allah created the bad to test the good

great discussion as always... though i do not agree with everything exactly as discussed... like us creating evil with our intention and not Allah is simply taking away from His Almight's power...not only by transitive property did Allah create it ... evil simply has a purpose in the big picture...it is a test for mankind (granted a very severe one at that but a test all the same) ...the whole premise of "the problem of evil" is wrong... there is no problem of evil in that it negates Gods existence... its simply a product of free will... choose to do good with it if you must...but of course evil will still exist because we arent in Paradise ...This life is supposed to have both as a test... You see evil you crush it with force or at least find it bad in your heart which is the lowest form of "emaan"... evil is a tool and a product of free will just like good is... and evil has a purpose just like good does... the purpose of freewill is simple... differentiation between believers and non believers... simple and elegant really...harsh in reality but still a pretty simple explanation for the existence of evil ...trials tribulations that we call evil are simply as sieve through which Momineen are sift and seperated from the weak of faith... evil is fought either with sword or with tawakkul(unwavering reliance in God) of course evil can dress up as money wealth and power and also as poverty pestilence and war... both ends of the spectrum can be equally devastating and efficient in sifting the real believers from the weak or non believers... May Allah guide us all Keep up the good work Mr. Williams. Love the discussions you have on here.❤💫

wouldn’t evil be simply willful disobedience to God. Like the theme of the Quran for the mujrrmuns evil deeds made fair seeming to them, they willfully disobey Allah(SWT) and they see no issue with it. not sin necessarily because we have been told that we will sin because we’re not perfect but the command of God for us in this situation is repentance so now we’re submitting our will again. If God sent us commands through revelation via prophets and the commands are for our own individual and societal benefit in this life and the next then evil would be willfully disobeying those commands to your own detriment by making the punishment justified against you. Allahu ‘Alim

As salam alaikum. Interesting topic but crippled, in my view, by a confusing definition of evil: evil is not natural physical pain, nor hardship, nor general suffering that are all part of the tests of life and easily understandable by most Muslims based on their experience. Evil is the deliberate act of doing wrong unto others, oppressing in any form, abusing one's power by inflicting unnecessary suffering on others. And the discussion do not really answer why Allah allows some people to do such things at the expense of others that are innocent and powerless, giving those evil doers much rope, while in the scriptures much lesser evil was punished right away. I have my understanding of this, but i would have loved this crucial point to be addressed in the discussion more in depth and not just with a very unsatisfactory similitude with earthly courts and tribunals.

If God exists, why bad thing happen? Paradoxal? 3.Āli 'Imrān : 182 ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِلْعَبِيدِ "... realy it wasn't Allaah, with darkness (persecution) for His servant" For Western, mostly. The view about God is oftenly seeing by Christianity doctrine perspective, i.e. by incarnation/tajassud تجسد. This also did by Wahhabism viewed about God, i.e. by the monotheism philoshopy or called at-tawhiid التوحيد. In Islam, there are three mentions lay to divinity: Allaah, Ilaah and Robb. Ilaah actualy talking the perspective og God for His grants for praising and God from the view of obeying. Ilaah worthies to Theos meaning and God, to Deus meaning. And Allaah itself, can't found its equivalency with specific word of other religions or languages. Allaah should exists as BEING (monotheism based on Supreme Being beliefs). So, Allaah, which understood as BEING, is there, placed outside human itself. By that, can't we change our perspective from monotheism to monism concept?. Remember, Allaah in Islam, doesn't same to Allah in Christianity which Is match to Robb or God. Monism as same as al-waahidiyah الواحدية and the basic of its divinity is panentheism. You may refers to the Ibn 'Arabi understanding. I give an example: If the mountain erupted, did by who? Allaah or the mountain itself. Monotheism will saying it by 2 materialism object as doer and became Theism. Refers to Dualism, 2 substances, there are 2 object, God aand creature. But d'you know that Allaah's mention wasn't "noun" but mashdar/source. This mashdar had Names built as nouns as objects. Allaah can't stays INSIDE universes, but Robb may to did it, like He goes down at last of one third of night (hadith). This phrase scattered here and there in Islamic main sacred sources....

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' How many times I called and talked and tried hard, but no one responded. Oh man, we are with you. My mother ordered us food from the restaurant. More and today. My mother left. Crying. She said, Why are you crying, my mother? She said, My daughter, I ask. God, that I may be honored by death. She said, Why, my mother. She cursed us. She said, "My daughter, today the restaurant owner insulted me. I said, 'Why?' I said, 'How can I be better than people?' I ask God, my daughter. May God gather me. With death alone, a gathering that is better than this humiliation and this humiliation. It is true. I am saying this. It diminishes my value and respect. But, man. I swear to God that I did not say this. I kiss your boots. I am so hungry that my conscience no longer allows me to let you go and ask us for food. I kiss your boots, man, and I ask you by God Almighty and in the Book of God, man, I kiss your boots, man. He has caused us harm, my brother, so that we can buy a kilo of flour and pay the rent. My brother, have mercy on us. He who is in the show will have mercy on you, He who is in the sky. My brother, this is my WhatsApp number: ~*00967772168484*~. Whoever can help us, message me on WhatsApp. We will send him the full name. He will transfer us as much as he can. May Allah reward you. Allah knows that my family and I, our house rent is 15 thousand Yemeni riyals per month, and now we owe 45 thousand for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of those people who do not have mercy. By Allah, my brother, he comes every day and humiliates us and talks about us and wants to throw us out of the house and into the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. We will have until the end of the week, and if we pay him, he will swear by Allah that he will throw us out into the street without mercy. See my situation for yourselves. I ask you by Allah, the Living, the Eternal, to help me. By Allah, the Almighty, even at night we cannot sleep from fear. We do not have mattresses or blankets to warm ourselves from the cold. Everything is flooded from the rain, and we have no one but Allah and then you. My brothers, I kiss your boots, don’t turn me away empty-handed. Help us with whatever you can. Is it acceptable to you that we live in this place? We are girls and we have no one. Our father died in a car accident. Consider us your daughters and your honor, and help me with whatever you can. Where? How about this? 👇 Jeremiah 20:7 (NIV) “You DECEIVED me, LORD, and I was DECEIVED; you overpowered me and prevailed. I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me.” Here, Jeremiah directly accuses God of deceiving him. Isaiah 45:7 (KJV) [7] I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create EVIL: I the LORD do all these things. The LORD create evil, The LORD do all these things. 2 Chronicles 18:18-22 (NIV) “Micaiah continued, ‘Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the multitudes of heaven standing on his right and on his left. And the LORD said, “WHO WILL ENTICE AHAB KING OF ISRAEL INTO ATTACKING RAMOTH GILEAD AND GOING TO HIS DEATH THERE?” One suggested this, and another that. Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, “I will entice him.” “By what means?” the LORD asked. “I will go and be a DECEIVING SPIRIT in the mouths of all his prophets,” he said. “YOU WILL SUCCEED IN ENTICING HIM,” said the LORD. “Go and do it.” So now the LORD has put a DECEIVING SPIRIT in the mouths of these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you.’” In this passage, God sent a deceiving spirit to mislead people and prophets. Not only that, but He ensured the deceiving spirit's success in its mission.

no gods exist, and these cultists are just more of them who can't show any evidence for their claims. Each theist has to explain why their particular god fails to do anything at all. They often use the same arguments, and it's great when each will ignore those arguments if they aren't about their own imaginary friend.

Assallamu alaikum, Bad things happen because humans don't follow Allahs guidance. "If something good comes to you, it is from Allah, and if something bad happens to you, blame no one but youself" HOLY QURAN

its not the existence of bad that is the problem. its the FLOURISHING OF EVIL that is the problem. whenever someone endeavours to do evil. Allah opens the pathways for them to go on and on doing more and more evil and becoming badder and badder................ until they have killed and miamed and tortured MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people and property and so on and so forth............... Allah never interferes EVEN THEN............. someone has to assemble an army to get rid of the malise THEMSELVES, no earthquake lands on the palace of Bashar al Asad........... an earthquake comes, yes, but it lands on the victims of Bashar al Asad, in Aleppo.......... his palace remains totally untouched by the ensuing destruction.......... so NO, its not as SIMPLE as you like to think it is, its actually very complicated.........
