G'day, I've recently inherited a Schmidt-Ruben straight pull that I want to hand load for and wanted to know what loads work and some good places for load data. The only other things I know about are that it was manufactured in 1892, and that it only has rear locking lugs. It has been a safe queen for the last 2 generations of previous owners (allegedly).

I have a quite conversational question about the GP11 in the K11. Does constant use of the GP11 round in K11 action wear out the locking lugs quicker?
@huntercompton96506 жыл бұрын
Quicker than what? GP11 or gewehrpatrone 1911 (rifle cartridge 1911) is meant to be fired in the K11 (carbine model 1911). The rifle shooting the ammo it was designed for should not wear anything prematurely.

At 4:03 there is a mention of "Official Literature" saying the GP11 should only be fired in M1889 in an emergency. Can anyone name the source for this comment?

Hi, firstly fantastic video, not just this one but all of them. I have a 1911, if I reload using the RCBS dies that came with the rifle it gives them the wrong shoulder angle and the firing pin doesn't strike the primer. Switched to Lee dies and away we go. K31's have a different chamber profile. There are K31 specific dies as a result. You probably have those.

So, maybe this is an old question or maybe a dumb one, but can I take modern 7.5x55 (perhaps PPU) and reduce the powder in them then shoot the new reduced load rounds in my 1889? Probably seems like a lot of work, but from what I am calculating will probably save me money in the long run.

Hi, did I Miss something? What happened that you can't buy surplus GP11 anymore? For us here in Germany there was a long dry spell but since a few month original Thun GP11 is available again.
@Mr79dream8 жыл бұрын
OK, that is strange. What commercial alternatives do you have? For us basically the only option was PPU *shrug* when we had the shortage. I made 1 shot PPU out of my K31, damn that was a low hit at 100m.
@Mr79dream8 жыл бұрын
Cheers, i was thinking, with out knowing the swiss law to specific, maybe it's the same reason why we "technically" can't buy surpluss either. The cartridge markings are noct CIP conform. WIth the GP11 it's not so bad here, they just get unpacked and get the 7,5x55 printed on the side. With 7,62x51 its worth, the original lot markings get machined out and then again the rebarnding and .308 REM gets printed on the side. So maybe in CH just no one bothers to put that work in remarking the GP11, hence you can get reimports where the CIP markings are applied,
@Mr79dream8 жыл бұрын
I know, did not write clear. I meant that maybe there is a regulation about markings on cartridges for civilian sale along the lines of CIP or maybe thanks to Schengen. It's just a very curious thing, never heared that before and did not expect it. Many regulations regarding guns don't make sense ;)

@BlokeontheRange5 жыл бұрын
You can safely shoot it cos it's got the same action as a 1911-pattern. But the bore and throat geometry are really not optimised for it, so it's unlikely to shoot well. Plus, it'll shoot really very high, and the recoil will be unpleasant. And it might give hard extraction. Overall, I'd not shoot GP11 in it as a result.

as you probably know the swiss military names its ammunition by the next round number. Means the 7.5 mm is not 7.5 mm (and not 0.295276 inches) but it is exactly .3 inches or 7.62 mm. A 7.5 is a rounded .3. All the .3 ammunition has the same size as the 7.5 and as the 7.62, it is just another system to name them. Measure the size if you dont belive. You can shoot a .308 in your k31 without any problem.
@BlokeontheRange3 жыл бұрын
Err, if you slug them, they are actually around .296" bore (land-to-land), not .300" bore (7.62mm, which rounds under the Swiss system to 7.6mm)... The Swiss get quite obsessive about nominal bore diameter, and measure them to .01 mm with plug gauges. There's endless pointless debate around 7.51, 7.52, 7.53 and 7.54 measurements. And the maximum nominal diameter on a GP11 bullet is .308" in any case...
