Surprisingly, vegemite (or marmite) is quite popular in Malaysia. I'm from Malaysia and this is literally in most people's memories. We would use this in congee, just act like a sauce, salty like soy sauce but umami and savoury like some kind of sauce.

Wow, Bondi Beach in Australia looks amazing. I only had been to Brisbane in a summer vacation before going to high school, and the weather was freezing (because I mostly travel in late July to early August). Besides the city, zoo, koalas, fireflies, boat ride to see the dolphins or whales and Warner Bros amusement park were fantastic, the Gold Coast was one of the best beaches in Australia.

When I first ate Vegemite in Australia, It was in a hotel for the breakfast. I thought it was something like chocolate. Therefore I put a lot of it on my toast cause I love sweet food. Then I took a big bite. And then, I was thinking what the hell of this. But I was with an Aussie friend, I want to show my respect for Australian food culture. So I said I like it. My Aussie friend said that he never saw any foreigner like Vegemite in his life. Now, I still eat vegemite sometimes cause I heard that it is full of nutrition.

Yes, Australian meat pies are delicious🤤, retired Aussie tennis superstar Patrick Rafter opened a shop called Garlo's in Los Angeles, USA dedicated to Aussie meat pies that I thought was delicious, but it is now closed. Perhaps it is a little too similar to American pot pies, which were first introduced on a large distribution scale (choice of beef, chicken, or turkey) in America back in the 1950s, as a frozen TV dinner by Swanson. Then Marie Callender took over the American frozen pot pie business around the 1990s with slightly upscale versions (slightly healthier ingredients) of Swanson pot pies. Now Kentucky Fried Chicken in America makes a pretty good chicken version of this flaky pie, with veggies and a sauce. But I think the Aussie version is even better...Vegemite, on the other hand I was really wanting to try because there was a song sung by the Aussie band Men at Work that mentioned Vegemite sandwiches (1982?83?), so I was really excited to try it when I visited Sydney in 2000, but was somewhat letdown. Ahh well, I figured it must be healthy in some secret ways, anyways. Thanks for the videos, I had no idea the Asian food scene has expanded so much in Australia. (We don't have some of the stuff you showed in your videos here in Los Angeles. Chuan chuan, various yum cha items, some of the noodle soups, etc...

The best food i had in Australia was apple pie served with icecream , so damn good , i couldnt find that sort of apple pie anywhere in China .
@eat_pray_porg84503 жыл бұрын
Ooooh! Yes, in the U.S. we call it "apple pie a la mode" (the term comes from French). Usually, the pie is warm (but some people are fine with it cold), and then you top it with the cold ice cream. Some restaurants will drizzle caramel sauce over it, too. Now I'm curious what the apple pies in Oz/Aus(tralia) taste like compared to the ones you get in the U.S.!!! You got me craving some homemade apple pie now. :-)

Immigrants don't just drop the cuisine they grew up eating just because they moved to a different country. People generally like to eat what they ate growing up, and the food they saw their parents making typically feel more accessible to them when it comes to cooking for themselves. Like, as a 1.5 generation Chinese-American, I'm perfectly fine eating non-Chinese foods when eating out, but when cooking for myself, it just feels so much easier to default to what we grew up seeing our parents make. Plus, a lot of American foods to me just don't feel like they belong in an everyday home-cooked meal, because I've never seen anyone making them other than in a restaurant.
