Honestly even though Blood C was kinda slow, I *loved* how stilted and awkward it felt, because it mostly seemed reflective of what was happening. Blood C is a show about a bunch of people playing roles they find incomprehensible. Saya is a "hero" who doesn't actually care about the people she's protecting. Her paternal figures are "guardians" who actively want her to become a worse, more miserable person. Her "friends" are mostly sociopaths who are terrified of her and force the interaction because they're being paid to. The scene where Saya's enforced love interest repeatedly tries to confess to her and bounces off her genuine confusion at why he would act like that is one of my favorite scenes in anime.

I also love this aspect of Blood-C, and honestly? If it had gotten the time to really get this concept across, it would’ve been great. Like imagine if it were a 24-episode anime where the first half remains mostly the same, but drops more hints to the true nature of things just so it didn’t seem so “it was bad, but bad on purpose”. And then the second half is basically what The Last Dark was, while clearing certain things up about Saya’s past, as well as deeply exploring her ability to learn to trust humans again after being betrayed in the first half. That’s of course all fan fiction at this point though.

I honestly hated Blood C. I wish I watched the other Blood series, they look a lot better narratively and the characters are more likable. I know what you mean. It really made the characters feel isolated from the rest of the world and that they were trapped with the monsters. And before the big reveal, it helped create this really weird feeling of how no one acted normal. I’d like for another show to try to go for this feel, maybe just have a better story to go with it.

It was my first exposure to the broader Blood franchise. I first watched it last year with my partner. I was really shocked that some people didn’t like the show. The action animation in the fights themselves were stellar, and the “normal school life” stuff felt very purposefully uncomfortable. So the twist that everything was a facade both surprised me and made sense in retrospect. I also can’t speak for the dub since I didn’t watch it, but I really enjoyed the sub.

There's faster methods of suicide that don't doom the whole planet, and alternate motivations all seem flimsy.

freaken finally! somebody talks about BLOOD. by the way in the blood+ series i remember the reason why during the climax when diva died and sia didn't is because when diva got preggo and delivered twins the potency of her blood disappeared. and that's why saya's blood triumphed, saya never got child (like she & diva's chiroptera mom). saya never got to have children to pass the power of her blood to. but i kind of also like your interpretation to it, keeps to the theme. the chiropterans are a product of diva's blood mutating normal peeps. i always thought that saya' s blood could be used for the same means since she and diva came from the same chiropteran mommie. fun fact "chiroptera" is the scientific name for bats!
@saltycupcake905410 ай бұрын
Blood+ was an elusive piece for me because I watched it on tv as a kid, but bc I was a dumb kid I couldn't abstract the plot, didn't help that my watch time was inconsistent. Years later I was thinking about it and wondering what the plot could be. Then your video was recommended to me and I was like "Blood SERIES?". In the end, Blood+ premise wasn't as complex as I was expecting, but at the same time it's very well made, and the story works that premise very well. The whole media around it and its background I had no idea about and I'm surprised how meta it can get. I also had no idea Blood C was from the same series, despite the name, I thought it was just a coincidence. Blood C never interested me, even after my friend showing compilations of it on youtube. It felt weird that things kept appearing and killing people, but the compilation made it look like everyone just resumed to the status quo after monsters went in a murdering spree, so I never felt a sense of plot. Still I'm glad to have this lil bug in my head satiated now that I understand what the plot of Blood+ was, and what the + means. Now I must uncover the plot of Black Cat
@audiophilekeys10 ай бұрын
The plot of Black Cat is that a long time assassin finds out there's another way to live life than just doing a bunch of m*rder jobs (who knew?) and quits his workplace only for his gay ex coworker to try and ruin his life for breaking up with him. Also there's donut fashion.

The thing that truly killed Blood C could be defined in two words "Stagnation" and "excessiveness". Last vampire had a slow pace but the world felt alive thanks to focusing on different aspects besides Saya herself, the characters were simple but complimented each other and the story well enough to make it interesting and every event had some form of consequence or effect on the larger world and the characters, the gore both on anime and manga had varying degrees but both knew when to tone things down for the sake of serious, funny or heartfelt moments. Blood C fails at all of these, nothing that happens ever moves or changes anything no matter how many people die and the gore is so ridiculously excessive even during supposedly important or sad moments that it's hard to take anything in it seriously. Blood C genuinely would've been a lot better had it either leaned more heavily into simply being a dark comedy or dropped the plot twist a lot sooner and then worked towards developing an actual plot with that like the people in the town planning a rebellion or an escape since all the deaths make them realize this psychopath is intent on killing everyone for the sake of his simp boner and Saya having to decide whether to help them or not or if she even cares, all the while trying to keep up the facade so shit doesn't hit the fan. Overall, watch the movie, watch the anime, read the mangas, and if you want mindless over the top gore, watch C too

Blood + is amazing but I do wish they had used some of the runtime to flesh out the characters more, so they don’t feel quite as one dimensional. However, to be fair it is a huge cast of characters. Having watched all three, I guess what they did with Blood-C is give people what they were missing in Blood+; G O R E. Also, Blood-C is probably more famous because it's CLAMP. It sucks but its CLAMP. And the fact that it is part of CLAMP's multiverse only made it even more interesting. The anime was done exactly as intended, you feel awkward because everything is fake. Had they continued and expand on it after the anime, things might pick up and become better. But then it was revealed that she made a deal with HolicXXX's protagonist so that means it will have to dip into that franchise too and that franchise is connected to Cardcaptor Sakura as well as several more series done by CLAMP. Narurally, before Marvel or the Spiderverse, we have CLAMP. You can just imagine how big this series will really be had they continue. Also, with extra magic. I still think Blood+ to be better in story telling because it takes its time and expand. Blood-C is...like a school play by edgy teens. Blood The Last Vampire's manga was exactly what you said. I don't even know what I'm reading then and I don't think I want to know now.

Love a good 1hr+ retrospective/review on anime. Hope to see more stuff like this on your channel! I’ve had more trouble finding longer form content on anime than any other medium, so it’s definitely a niche that could use more great creators such as yourself. Really enjoyed the video, despite my having watched only Blood-C and writing off the rest of the entries as too much gory and too little story for my tastes. You’ve convinced me to go back and give the other entries at least a chance.

Give Blood+ 6 episodes and if you're not feeling it by then, then you may want to check out. I liked it but I also know it's not for everyone.

Stumbled onto your channel and definitely really enjoy these retrospectives.....Please do more of these! *Note: Fully agree with Blood: The Last Vampire being the best one out of the bunch but I LOVE this series!

Blood C was one of the first anime I watched, I don’t think I ever knew anything else of the series existed and mainly forgot about it because of the weirdness of it.

55:34 🤔 it reminds me of my language class .. or reading 🤷🏾♀️ each student write one chapter & the next student will write the next. After everyone had a turn; the teacher will read the book out loud. The only rule was, you can't say the chapters before yours was a dream or anything similar to that. Because you can't undo the last writers work. That would be disrespectful. So basically we had a chimera book. A mixture of all the different terms. Horror, action, comedy, & so on. So parts got super brutal 😁 the teacher had to spell the words out because she didn't want to say them. The war part & the missing person kidnapped chapters.. that kinda stuff. We was in 6th grade I think 🤔

You JUST popped up on my feed. Gave you a watch. And I have to say, more long form vids. I LOVED this. And I didn’t even care for the Blood series. But this made me think “Huh. Maybe I’ll give Blood another go.”

I like blood C because it had my favorite character. Kimihiro Watanuki. Thanks Clamp for this random crossover that I needed now give me MORE XXXHOLIC. But I think the last vampire is my favorite Saya. Nothing will be as cold blooded, cool af and gritty as her.

everything else about blood c aside, the opening song slaps so hard
@elafila688310 ай бұрын
but blood c's character not acting like real people is because they aren't real it's all fake and i think it's intentional to make us suspect that something isn't right it's kind of uncanny valley. from the very first episode you get this creepy feeling. maybe for someone who already knew saya's story prior to this you couldn't really enjoy it cause you expected a lot. but then again, my biggest criticism is that fumito's motivations aren't clear like they never explain why this random rich man is so deranged to the point of creating a fake city just to destroy it, that just made absolutely no sense. and the never expending on what the pact between saya and humans as well

I kinda liked blood C, but couldn't make much sense of it. I was hoping the other series had something to do with it, and it's mildly disappointing that they don't, but Honestly, I think I prefer these being all different retellings, they are all interesting in different ways, I look forward to watching Blood+, many thanks for the recommendation

Despite your critique of Blood-C, it was my intro to the series and my favorite of the shows haha. Probably anchoring bias or something since it’s the first I saw.

Never been one to listen to reviews, but really enjoyed the entiretly of this video and how you broke down each version of blood and then showed some comparisons. Blood+ was my first one and really enjoyed it. Seeing what you said about the manga as a suppliment I thought was a interesting take and definetly want to look into it.

The entire reason I picked up this movie in high school and bought it from Best Buy, was we were stationed on Yokota AFB 3 years prior, and I heavily missed living there when we came back to the states. I was shocked how many establishing shots were true to Yokota AFB, to the point that I knew exactly where on the base they were. AND, having attended school on the base, I knew which class rooms she was in. I felt home, watching this movie. Later, a show was made, but the Yokota setting was gone. I still enjoyed it, but the setting was the core reason I bought and watched this movie in the first place.

Recently stumbled on Blood+ anime, and I've liked the earlier episodes (up to the 9th) so much I've recommended it to my MOM. It surely COULDN'T go wrong from that setup!! Not our proudest hours, although it was some quality time together. She didn't last that long, up to 18-19 I think. I made it through to 50. I don't regret it, I guess, but I'd never recommend it to anyone else.
