Aldies was just selling Moro Blood Oranges under the more friendly Rassbert orange. They were much darker, and had dark red skin. The favor was stronger than most blood organges, and had odd berry favor. The skin was looser too.

Love blood orange! But, it’s 3am in Scotland and I NEED TO SLEEP! Will watch when I get up! Side note, you need to give seaweed a second/third/.../nth chance. Don’t judge seaweed by norry (dyslexic, close enough) I’m not sure, what edibles we have in Scotland you can’t get elsewhere, thistle nuts? We do have cloudberries (and didn’t know they were edible till I seen your video! THANK YOU!!)

I got a valentine pomelo from my local fruit stand a while back, and it had the same issue of having absolutely no sourness. It was honestly kind of gross, so I threw it away (I kept the peel though).
@PLANDerLinde99

Why would you want sourness though? If you want sour you may as well just munch on a lemon or lime. Which in my opinion is quite unpleasant

@@PLANDerLinde99 I mean if a citrus is a zero on the sourness scale it just tastes weird honestly. Grapefruits are sour, oranges are sour, regular pomelos are sour, mandarins are sour, I think a certain degree of sourness is just part of the citrus experience.

@weird explorer Hi jared, just wanted to tell you that eating a Vaniglia Orange while having other citruses is kinda wrong. The vaniglia orange as you said has zero tartness so having one right after a normal orange makes the taste of the vanilla one a bit weird and it makes it feel "wrong". But if you ever try it again by itself I can ensure you that you'd love it.

A few years back I got some moro blood oranges from the store and one of them had a completely different flavor that I'd never before encountered in a typical moro orange nor have I since. They all had the same label and all of them looked pretty similar from the outside, but one of them had flesh that was a bit lighter and the flavor gave off strong notes of vanilla with an apricot-like richness. To this day, I have no idea what that orange was because it was so much different from the others that it had to have been mislabeled. I highly doubt it was a Vaniglia Sanguigno that somehow ended up at the random large grocery store two miles from my house, but I'll never know for sure...maybe it could've been! I don't seem to remember any potato in there but the vanilla was very much present.

The Pomelos here are just about out. the season is short and none of the stores that had them are able to order them and more so I just bought a box of 15 of the last 25 that were there. They are "ruby red Pomelos" apparently so they could have some relation or similarity to the Valentine ones especially since I am in the Monterey bay. Next year I'm so going to the Rare Fruit Growers bonanza!

I don't know what those vaniglia sanguigna oranges they sent you from California, but they are nothing like real Sicilian arance di vaniglia also called arance dolci ( sweet oranges) Firstly the pulp is orange with no hint of red, the juice is very sweet and it does have the flavor of vanilla. There are also two varieties of blood oranges one is sour, the other very sweet but not as much as the arance di vaniglia; the pulp is burgundy in color with no hints of orange and the squeezed juice in a glass does really look the color of blood.It's a fun beverage to serve during Carnevale ( Mardigras) By the way gl in Italian is pronounced like ll in Spanish from Spain like a y with a hint g and l.

You mentioned cranberry so many times in this that I'd like to ask if you've ever had white cranberries? They are exactly the same as the normal ones, just picked early. They aren't as tart as the ripe ones, but it's both sort of unique and potentially road trippable for you you (I think you're NYC right?). If you got in touch with Decas or Ocean Spray up here in MA, you'd probably be able to land some, and it would be a cool episode.
