Written by Clayton-Thomas, he also plays lead guitar, a position usually held by Steve Katz. It's not surprising that David is playing some bluesy guitar since he first gained attention in Toronto backing John Lee Hooker. Hooker took him to New York with him and then left on a European tour. Clayton-Thomas chose to stay in NY, surviving by playing the "basket" clubs in The Village. Judy Collins "discovered" him and introduced him to Bobby Colomby, the drummer for BS&T. Since Al Kooper had left the band over "artistic differences," they were looking for a new front-man. They found him and the rest is history. Thanks Tim and Harri.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ONE!! The tuba break by Dave Bargerone was a killer for me. The lead singer David Clayton-Thomas who hadn't played guitar with the band before played the tasty lead guitar on this one. And the late great Lew Soloff on trumpet had his moments too. What a great track!

They are, hands down, THE BEST! Saw them in concert every chance I got, and I did get quite a few! All classically trained musicians and it shows. They even had a tuba on stage when they played live . . . I mean . . . when was the last time you heard a tuba solo?? rockin' up their jazz vibes. And the amazing Bobby Colomby on the drums and the fantastic David Clayton Thomas!! My favorite group of all time. Thank you so much for this reaction. Keep them coming!!

Founded in 1967 in NYC, Blood Sweat and Tears were counted as a Rock/Pop/R&B/Soul with a Big Band Jazz feel Band. David Clayton Thomas 🇨🇦 plays the heavy guitar riffage on this song and does vocals. This was the loudest rock track they had produced to that point on vinyl. The horns are so captivating and grab your full attention. They are just blasting you into jazz supremecy.🎺🎺🎺 Great reaction Harri, glad you loved it. Thanks Harri and Tim. Fantastic. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

When I saw BS&T in the early 70s, David Clayton Thomas strapped on a Flying V guitar and told the audience this was a new song. Jammed like crazy but it was the only song David played guitar. Underappreciated band for sure.

HI Harri in the 70's Burton Cummings ( who's voice I Love too) had a music special and in one part he and David Clayton Thomas (BS&T lead singer) were like gunfighters coming up the street towards each other singing their hit songs . Burton had several specials always played a white baby grand piano .

BS&T came out when I was in high school. I liked the group then, but it's taken me until now (in my early 70s) to fully appreciate what they had accomplished. It's partly because my appreciation and understanding for music has increased and partially because I now have better listening equipment. Good review, Harri. You've still got a good amount of their music to delve into whenever you choose.

This, to me, is their top song. The horns, especially Lew Soloff's solos, and Chuck Winfield, both on trumpet, are out of this world. Never before or since has there been a better jazz horn section. RIP Lew. He could really hit those sky-high notes! And DCT's voice is gold. I was so lucky to catch them live!

Great track from BS&T 4 from June '71. Yes, Harri, that is an outrageous pairing of horns and guitar, and the dynamite vocals of David Clayton Thomas. May I suggest "I Can't Quit Her" from BS&T's debut album "Child is Father to the Man", released in Feb. '68? It's a bit more bluesy and features the legendary Al Kooper on lead vocal.

Especially love their stuff when David Clayton-Thomas joined as their lead singer. You've done quite a few of their songs. This was the opening track on their 4th album made in 1971, I was ten years old, my cousin asked me to get him this album on cassette for Christmas later that year. When he opened the tape, played it and this song came out of the speakers, I knew I had to get this also! My Father knew I wanted this and he got me the album on an 8-Track Tape and I was in heaven, the entire album is just as great as their second self titled album made in 1969. I didn't know at the time that it was recorded at Columbia Studios here in San Francisco. The Co-producer and sound engineer was Roy Halee who also produced all of the great albums by Simon & Garfunkel.
