What I’m confused about is when you keep the IV patent. At my facility we don’t use an IV pump to give blood. That being said after a reaction I stop the transfusion and disconnect from patient. Then “I keep IV line patent”. Do I hang a new bag of NS and let that run? If so how should I do that ? Pump? What rate? Or do I just flush the line and saline lock it? That has always confused me

I'm 33 but at 25 I had at least 5 blood drips. It's awful but I do know what it feels like to almost die of blood loss.
