Lady Maria’s whole story in general is very sad in itself. She was one of the first hunters, learning under Gehrman himself. Despite being of Cainhurst lineage, she shunned her blood magic powers and trained and became one of the greatest hunters to have ever lived by honing her technique with her Rakuyo. Then one fateful day, her and Gerhman went to the Fishing Hamlet, discovered Kos, and eventually massacred the whole village to uncover its secrets to return to Brygenwerth; including the unborn child of Kos. This led to Willem learning about the existence of the Great Ones, thus starting all the events of the game. Maria felt so disgusted in her role in all of this that she threw her beloved sword into the lake, wishing to be free of the cycle of violence and her role in all of this. She tried to do good, and help and comfort the patients experimented on by the Church, becoming the only comfort in their wretched existence. But despite how hard she tried, she couldn’t help them. And eventually, she couldn’t outrun her guilt and the suffering around her, and she took her own life. Then she became trapped in the Hunter’s Nightmare, forced to wear her Hunter Garb and wield her sword for all eternity, standing watch over the Fishing Hamlet next to the Research Hall filled with patients she couldn’t help, both her greatest sources of shame. When she finds you, she doesn’t even hate you, the only reason she fights you is because she’s so ashamed of what happened at the Fishing Hamlet and so frightened of what’s in there, that she tries to make you give up looking. She knows you’ll just return to the dream and then come back if she kills you, so she tries desperately to stop you, even delving into the blood magic she rejected for all her life just to stop you. It’s a really sad story and killing her here could easily be interpreted as you freeing her from the eternal torment of the Nightmare, having to stand watch over your greatest source of shame forever.

Nah there's no reason to justify that. He was panicking throughout the whole fight. So many parries but not a single riposte. If he keeps his cool and wait until his character is right in front of her before mashing R1, which is the only thing he did in the whole video, he would've gotten a few ripostes. You can still riposte an enemy even if they look like they're about to get up if you don't simply swing at them.

@@paragontraynv2 I mean, he did kinda well ay, he understands mechanics and how boss types work, and there's not much he could have done with the viscerals. Windows can vary depending on the speed of attack, and for most enemies you have to stun RIGHT when they're .5 millimeters away from landing the hit, not to mention he got staggered at the same time she was open to the visceral, and he was a fair distance away from her aswell. And considering it was this guys first try, I think he did really well. "He PrObAbLy OnLy WeLl BeCaUsE oF hIs ViTaLiTy" that's literally one of the key parts to winning this game dickhead. There's little to no chance of getting through without taking a single hit, especially from bosses. So till you give proof that you can do that, your comment is invalid 😂

There's reason behind music like that in this fight. To fight Lady Maria, is to dance with her. The steps are easy to learn: Blow, step past her. Blow, step past her. The clocktower is your ballroom. You only step away when she uses AoE. If she steps away from you, wait out for her strike, and sidestep. She'll end perfectly besides you, waiting for blow. Only tempo changes as fight progresses into next stages. This is hands down my favorite fight in game.

Sean Clark Most bosses don't go through multiple phases in Dark Souls 1 like they do in later games and Dark Souls 2 has some of the laziest boss designs in the series between rehashed bosses and bosses with additionals thrown in as a substitute for designing a genuinely challenging boss by itself.

Sister Friede almost give me a god damn aneurysm when I found out she had a 3rd phase.
@steampunklemon15086 жыл бұрын
Friede is a shit ass garbage boss in my opinion and the most unfair fight in the series. She’s way too quick for the game, making most attacks unpunishable and forcing the player to play like an absolute pussy because aggressive tactics will get you destroyed.

Beautiful design, good lore, nice setting, beautiful theme, a good and fair fight. Best boos in the game is Lady Maria hands down.
@catogordo83403 жыл бұрын
I don't know whether it was intended or not, but in the fight with Gehrman, he starts assembling the two parts of his weapon in the cutscene, while Maria starts her fight disassembling her weapon into two parts. It feels like they're opposites, which gives a hint of a "perfect and whole" bond

The same could be said for most bosses in souls games, but I guess it may be especially true for Orphankos. Imo, Ludwig was epic but easy, especialy in the 2nd phase.

God I fucking love this fight. When I first played this game, I felt like I had to be so god damn cautious. After playing DS3 though? Man it felt good to pick this back up again. Maybe it's because I just suck with Dark Souls' visual cues, but parrying in that game never came easy (unless we're talking PVP, in which case, different story >_>), but coming back to this? I find it so much easier to pull of visceral attacks, and holy shit do I realize how literal the term is now because it felt SO good to rip the shit out of monsters. I know From says they're not making more Souls games right now, but if they ever develop a new one, I sincerely hope its in the vein of BB. God damn I love this game.
@sitizenkanemusic7 жыл бұрын
Reixes anything Miyazaki does is golden. Bloodborne will always have a special place in my heart. But I think DS3 is a masterpiece through and through. Bloodborne is like checkers while Dark Souls is like chess. Both are masterpieces in different ways.

On my first playthrough, I was extremely cautious and would getting frustrated when I would die from being too passive and not dealing enough damage to bosses or enemies. On NG+, however, I've been playing a lot more aggressive and it's so much more enjoyable that way. I've learned to love this game, but it took a while
