Absolutely perfect day 1 and 2 from Patters, Kohav bossed the mid-late game. Angela, despite a few iffy kill choices (purely due to being comparatively inexperienced), managed to nicely stay out of trouble and let the minions be the vocal ones, and Ken stayed dead silent until the end. Great work team evil.

Honestly I don't know how the NRB players didn't notice Ken being pretty much silent rather than his usual complete mad lad self. Although I guess this was overall a much more serious tone than the NRB plays clocktower, and John also seemed a good bit less animated than usual, so maybe they kinda assumed that was why.

Evil played extremely well, but good also threw unbelievably hard. I feel like they knew who was incredibly suspicious but kept getting sidetracked and always nominated someone else based off a more recent but less overall suspicious claim. Like Patters lied so much day one and then pretended to be a mutant that wasn't executed, which just isn't believable when so many players were still alive. And the presence of a devil's advocate was not unlikely because the ST had no way of knowing that the philo would choose pacifist (also a rather questionable choice since it's subject to ST choice, which generally benefits evil especially early game). Good job to Skilz for figuring it all out and at least giving good a chance of winning. It's incredible that good got that much information given the circumstances, imagine if Isaac was killed instead of Jacqui.

First time seeing Patters in action after watching the NRB BOTC playlist but he shows how the most impressive way to bluff is to simply do it with confidence. How you say eventually becomes more important than what you say. Holly and Ken are other players who constantly misinform and get away with it because they don’t second guess themselves even when they’re proven wrong. It actually makes other players doubt their own legit info. I will try to check out more videos on this channel as I really enjoyed this one. 😊

Gosh, nice of all these people to guest star on the Patters show. That gameplay was SO insane. Absolute chef’s kiss convincing Angela to never talk to her other minion. He even did it without asking her who it was, because that could have been sus. It’s funny how an entire two hour game can completely swing on a single, tiny decision. What if Angela was convinced she was the lunatic? What if Ken hadn’t instantly jumped to Angela? What if the philosopher hadn’t picked pacifist? What if multiple people hadn’t claimed to have philosopher drunked Isaac? Each of these would have been a completely different game, even with the same players being assigned the same roles.

@@TheFinalChapters it doesnt even need the DA in the game... there are a ton of other roles on the script that might cause someone to survive execution... sailor, fool, tea lady, leech... and of course there are roles that might register as good like the spy if he really wanted to hard confirm someone as good, he should have gone for professor or virgin... those two are hard to fake (professor would require a shabaloth and virgin would require a witch to self curse on day one or a spy to sacrifice themselves) another amazing option would have been courtier or exorcist to shut down key people on the evil side...

Which is a brag, really, but also that the kills got chaotic after that (which was after the Fang Gu jump). Only up to night 2 but I had a question, mostly for Ben but any Storytellers can answer, if the Demon jump happens before the barber swap shouldn't the new Demon choose the swap? Or is this an edge case rule/jinx made specifically because of the problems that having the new Demon choose the swap can have?

Not a storyteller but from what I understand, barber refers to "the demon" (singular). So Ken, gets to make that choice and because it wasn't used, the ability fizzles He did go on about whether or not to give Angela that choice but his only obligation is to give that choice to Ken (she'd still think she was the demon as lunatic since Barber wasn't outed at all)

If Ben had made them drunk, he would've painted himself into a corner and not be able to change the game flow here. A role that kills (or protects) just doesn't work when drunk/poisoned, but the roles that get info can get any combination of good and/or bad info.

Yep. You can pretty much do anything that might happen to a demon. Although I find being subtle is often better than trying to do weird, grandiose stuff. One interesting thing I say once was an Outsider on S&V being turned into the Lunatic. An Outsider can become the Fang Gu if they're attacked by one, so we told them that they were the Fang Gu.

I super disagree with Ben not protecting any good executions besides Isaac, especially the Mayor. Having a Philosopher pick to be the Pacifist and Ben not protecting any good players because it can hide the evil players protected by the DA is SPECIFICALLY the opposite of what a townsfolk ability is supposed to do. Yes, you should help evil in the beginning, but not allowing a townsfolk ability work to help evil is what outsiders are for. Saving Isaac because it might confuse people into thinking he's DA protected is also not what a townsfolk ability is for.

This was very fun to watch. The app looks great. Patters really dodged a bullet when Angela forgot he should have known who the other minion was. Jon's lore was funny too, and I wish I could have seen what Isaac was so excitedly saying at the beginning on day 4. I have some questions: if a lunatic is turned into a minion or a demon, does the storyteller have to tell them they are good? Also, on night 1, could Ken have swapped himself with a minion, meaning there would be 2 living Fang Gus in the game? Also, I saw people in the chat saying Angela should have been in charge of the barber swap. Was that a mistake?

Everyone will always know which side they're playing on at all times. The single exception to this rule is the lunatic, so if you stop being the lunatic you will immediately be told which side you are on. I believe there was a mistake for the barber swap, the demon kill happens before the barber swap so Angela should have been the one to swap. The fact that Ken technically could have swapped himself for a minion would make this fact obvious, because there's really no answer to how that would work. Note that I'm not an expert story teller so I might be wrong about things here, but that's how I've come to understand the rules.

So with Ken deciding. I think it was done properly only because it happened during the day. But I could be completely wrong. For example if a minion killed the barber in the night I think that's the time that it would happen that night. But I could be wrong. But if that is what happened then the order would be the swap and then the fungus turn which would be handed over to the minion. So in that case Angela would never be attacked by Ken and there's only one fengu.

Edit: Nevermind, apparently I've been watching some really old streams under older rules, where the Fang Gu could jump more than once, evil cannot get that big.

Seeing this game makes me wonder: would it be possible to have characters who could take on roles that could be considered 'out-of-world', i.e. a character outside of the crafted script? Additionally, I thought up a role or two and would love to hear possible feedback! Minion: The Plague Bearer [If you die during the day, at night, choose a living player. If a Townsfolk, they become the new Plague Bearer and are evil.] Demon: The Void [You have the abilities of an out-of-world Demon, and register as that Demon. All players start knowing the Void is in play.] I'd be very curious to see if TPI would work with these kinds of characters or expand on the idea of out-of-world roles.

Both of your ideas sound fun, but think of the in-game-balance. With the Atheist token in play other rules can be broken, but there are no evil characters in play. The Amnesiac can have any ability that is not unique to another character, but they do not know their ability, again, balance is key. Your Plague Bearer could swamp the board with evil characters, completely negating any chance of Good winning. There are only a few roles that can disrupt the voting behaviour, mostly involving a competition or blind luck. Butler, Goon, Fang Gu if outsiders are in play and only with first jump, unaware Lunatic, Cult Leader, you get the drift. If you want a bigger team, look at a legion game. The Void is a problem in itself, two demons are just too strong. That is why deaths are arbitrary if the Pit Hag creates a new demon. And a reason why minion kills are very rare and restrictive. It's the storytellers job to keep both sides in check and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. Your suggestions might be a bit too evil friendly. Edit: Sorry, I think I got your Void wrong. And it's a bit of a conundrum, really. Most scripts seem to be written with demons and minions in mind. Why would you give this minion other powers. Why would you give out the leech power if no other characters could cause poison or drunkenness? Why would you force players to look at information outside the script to figure out what demon might be in use? Seems not very player friendly.

Because not only would players need to know the characters on the script, but also every character and all the possible jinxes with characters on the script. Or worse *every jinx* in case of two "out of world" characters. Simply it opens a massive window of confusion where you're basically playing fishbucket on hard mode

the conversation when the philo turns pacifist is so annoying to me lol. Like, how is this character not an outsider with how most storytellers play it? Philo uses their ability to try to help town, and before any of the game starts, they go "ok lets mess him up entirely and use his ability to hurt town". How is that fair, especially to a philisopher. I would reward the ballsy play, or at least wait until the gamestate is revealed. The immediate "lets hurt town with this" is bothersome

Most of what I've seen of storytellers is usually them helping evil and either giving useless info to good or outright hindering them every step. They say it's cause evil is outnumbered, but really it just turns the game into 5 evil players, except 2 of them are in control of the game. It's especially annoying when good makes a great play and the storytellers nullify it just cause they feel like it

If the pacifist was randomly going off, it would be impossible to tell DA protections from pacifist protections, making it incredibly hard to figure out who is evil while only the evil team is making kills. The benefit to the good team is that they can reverse engineer the DA protections to figure out the evil team

It's an interesting idea - it would force the Townsfolk to execute either the Lookout or sufficient Outsiders before the Demon if they wanted the win. I think calling it the Lookout doesn't really fit the role, though - I'd call it something like Demagogue, Malcontent or Rabble-Rouser.

Turning all into a three factions game. I don't think I enjoy that idea. Is the ability persistent after execution/death? Actively asking after outsiders might get you in trouble fast. Most groups might not be large enough to see much outsider play. But give it a go, add all the outsiders and give a Godfather a hell of a time.

@@BloodontheClocktower 44:47 Should put you at the start of the night time converstation with Ken while he is the Fang gu, he hears that the lunatic has chosen Jacqui, then he chooses Angela, She is an outsider so he should be killed, and she becomes the Evil Fang gu, at this point you hang onto Ken as you ask him to choose to use the Barber's ability (If I am reading night order correctly, which it is entirely possible I am not, Fang Gu acts 3rd then Barber's ability acts 4th) So when the barber's ability triggers should not the new Fang Gu have that choice? As At this point Ken is dead. (Aside, Thanks for the reply, wasn't really expecting one!)

Ah right, I see what you mean now. When an ability specifies that the Demon has to do something (or any character type for that matter), if there are multiples of that character type in play, the Storyteller may choose one of them to do it. This rule also applies to info. For example, if a Sage dies and there are two Demons in play, the ST may show either of them to the Sage. - Ben

Twenty minutes in, I disagree with your decision that Tyler's ability should be a pure downside for the good team - he's a Townsfolk, not an Outsider. If you wanted to do this, you had the perfect opportunity to just make him the Drunk.

I have absolutely no idea what you're referring to. Any chance you can timestamp this for some context? As far as I remember, Tyler's ability did have an impact for the good team.

@@bennburns Starting around 18:23, you say that because Kohav's Devil's Advocate ability (a player of evil's choice cannot be killed by execution) overlaps with Tyler's Pacifist ability (a good player might not be killed by execution), you're inclined not to have Tyler's ability trigger. One of the two reasons you cite for this is that Tyler would be inclined to defend people saved by Kohav - people evil doesn't want to die. If you were considering giving Tyler the downside of Pacifist (introducing uncertainty about people saved from execution by evil) without the upside (protecting good players from execution), I think you should have just made Tyler the Drunk instead of Josh.

@@alexholker1309 Oh wait, I understand now. You think having Tyler's ability not to anything at all is the same as his ability being a 'pure downside'. I don't agree with this assessment, but even if I did, I think you'll find that this isn't the case if you keep watching. After all, "I might be inclined to" and "I am definitely going to" do not mean the same thing, as you'll no doubt find later on in the video.
