It doesn’t really have medicinal uses it just that you think it does and even if it does have some in there so minor mostly placebo and there are better options stick to the better options Not to mention they use blood route with zinc chloride and they call it black SALVE which basically people used thinking is a cancer curing drug but really wants to use it for about a few days to a week literally only part that you put down chemicals on the blood route and black SELVE mix literally dead part of your body will die and fall off and it will hurt like hell so this plant is pretty bad

I really enjoy that you always go back to what multiple Native American tribes used the plants for.

Yes, as an indigenous woman I’m grateful you posting these uses. I’m curious where you find such an extensive list. If you have a book I’d love to know which. I’m an herbalist. Thanks!!

@ Any others youd recommend? I actually already have that book! It's thick as a brick & twice as heavy lol. I'm so intimidated by all of the text in that one - definitely encyclopedic though, & I appreciate the suggestion(s), & thank you for your reply! I'm in north georgia if that would help with any other suggestions.

Recently found bloodroot and assumed based on intuition that it was good for heart health based on the leaves. My partner thought it would be good for lungs based on the looks. Glad to be able to identify and confirm those intuitive feelings. Thanks for the super informative vid :)

Man, Rewilding I’m glad I could help. From what I’ve read about traditional medicines the shape of plants have indicated what that could be used for. Thanks for stopping by.

the other sites I found only talk of tinctures, and this just by mixing alcohol with the powdered root. no heat, also some sites suggest to touch no metal (use a pyrex pan to simmer), but you can take that to also mean use a ceramic knife to cut, not a metal one. What is your experience on the best way to extract the medicinal properties?

Thank you for the informative video, can you let me know if this herb can help with benign tumors! Thank you.
@blefnefnef2 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert - & realize this comment is 3 years old - & I'm sure you've probably made your decision by now; this reply is moreso for people who find these comments in the future. Especially if a tumor is benign/superficial, personally, I'd leave it alone, & not use bloodroot salve on it. I think getting it frozen or cut off are probably the safest options. Were it something malignant, I'd STILL leave it alone, & not use bloodroot on it.. My understanding of bloodroot in the form of black salve is that it is caustic; it can kill the bad (cancer) cells, but also kills the good cells indiscriminately. Think like hydrochloric acid, or drain cleaner (lye).. Sanguinarine is a toxic compound & from my understanding; it can cause cancer. Were one to have a malignant skin cancer, use bloodroot salve, & miss some of the cancer - it will spread. Using it on a benign tumor may cause cancer. Not worth it in my opinion.

Used for war paint. I always wondered what the indigenous people used for war paint. Yellow? Black? What plants were used for these colors? I think of palm print on hind quarters of their horses. I have an enormous amount of it growing on my land. The deer ate the leaf & I think they must have had an alignment & knew which plant to eat. Unsure, but I've never noticed the tops eaten off before. Thanks for your knowledge.
@orion32672 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing the paints were from various things. For yellow, flowers dried/ground into a paste and thinned out for spreading, sulpher etc. For black, we already know they used the black walnut husks soked in water for darker brown dyes. If you add enough, it'd get darker. I'd also guess they could use charcoal mash as a black or dark gray paint as well. Makes me want to go try it out.

I heard that the "blood" from this flower can can cause your skin to go numb on contact, is this true?

I haven't heard of or experienced skin numbing, but I have heard this plant can cause a rash similar to poison ivy in some people.

So interesting due to the toxic nature of lethal dosages. I also heard that the root was used in "Black Salve" cancer treatments which could eat a persons face off. If this is true, I would imagine that great care is required in its preparation/application?

Yes! Be VERY careful using it! It really can be a fabulous plant to use, but I had to go to urgent care after using it on my leg for several days. I believed what I had on my leg was a skin cancer so I started dabbing a tincture of blood root on it several times a day. It got infected and just about rotted a walnut sized hole in my thigh. It's a useful plant most of the time, but just be careful.

Thank you for the compliment, but I am not a medical practitioner and cannot give medical advise. The information I post in these videos are for historic and educational purposes only. The last time I had a sinus infection it caused me to have severe migraines that could have led to something worse. I would seek a doctors advise.
