I adopted a rescue dog and it was required that he be neutered before I could bring him home, the poor thing was so swollen in his male parts. When I let him out in the yard he made a beeline for the goldenrod which was in full bloom, he began eating it...not nibbling on it like they do dog grass, but biting off 4 or 5 leaves at a time and chewing and swallowing like he was starved and had not eaten in weeks. He cleared the leaves off of about 5 plants. I did not know what type of properties it had, but his focused attention to it told me he was acting from prior experience so I let him continue and he stopped and then began exploring the yard. The next morning, the swelling was completely gone and I had to look up the healing properties of Goldenrod, that is how I ended up here.....great video!

I never knew about the healing properties of goldenrod until we noticed our dog, who had bone cancer, started chewing specifically on younger stalks of goldenrod when we were on a walk. I watched closely to see what he was eating each time, and it was always goldenrod. I then researched it on the internet to learn more about this plant. I wonder how the dog knew what to eat. It was amazing. Your dog is cute, by the way. :)

I have used a lot of Golden Rod in the past. The way I do it is, I cut the growing plant off at the bottom of the good healthy leaf section. Make sure leaves have no fungus growing on them. Leaves have to look healthy. I use a pruning shears to cut them. I pick my yrs supply of Golden Rod plants with as much stem that has good healthy looking leaves. I will have a large armful of Golden Rod. And bring them home and put them out in the sun to dry, if possible. If it is raining a lot, I find a place inside to put them to dry. Once dry, I strip dry leaves and flowers (which have turned to fluff and seeds by now), off the hard woody stems. Then I crush it all up by hand as fine as possible and store in airtight containers. This I use to make tea, as follows: I use a 2.5 litre pot and fill with water and bring to boil. Have about 2 cups of golden rod tea ready. Remove pot of boiling water from element and immediately add the Golden Rod Tea to pot. Do not stir. Cover pot and let sit for several hours, until cold or room temp. By this time, all the Golden Rod tea should of settled to the bottom. And you should have a rich dark brown tea. This is a concentrate. I strain it, and put it in a pitcher and store in the fridge in the coldest part of the fridge, just short of freezing. It will last a long time. When I want a cup of tea, I pour about 50 to 100 ml in cup and add room temperature water to fill cup and drink it. I find that I actually only need enough of the concentrate to colour the water. IMO it is a powerful soothing drink.

I appreciate you sharing your "recipe". I came down to leave MY, "little concoction tea mix" and I see that- "Whelp, someone's already got one down here." The ONLY things I would add, are based on what you're "feeling", (maybe an abcess tooth- [since "seasons" ARE about to change/are changing.. I'm getting a LOT of questions as to "what to use"/"when to use"..] more people will find their body's, "struggling to adjust", and with each year- the "struggle to adapt", becomes harder & harder on the body itself. That's simply, "aging". It's natural & it happens. Plants, however- Will, can & ALREADY HAVE- "slowed down that process". Adding cinnamon, honey, citrus juice, other plant "juices" will "help" to utilize more of "Goldenrod's properties". Also, when it comes to "harvesting", just "SAY NO"- to "imposter syndrome". You do NOT, "HAVE TO"- "leave with an empty basket & come back- 'FULL'.. in order to be "successful" or "ethical" for that matter. Always LEAVE- MORE than ½ of what EVER, 'IT' is that you're going "foraging"/"gathering" FOR! There are SO SO many, who- Not only "CANNOT tell" when/why/how "empty basket syndrome", FACTually- "Works", and while, "ignoring" & "denying"- "#TakingResponsibilityForYourActions", is NOT- "a BIG thing" [right NOW- "..bc gov/pharma- are NOT, 'taking responsibility for 'THEIR' ACTions.."] this,, does NOT, "MEAN": "OH, okay. Well- if 'THEY', 'don't HAVE TO'- 'take responsibility', then- neither am I." I PINKY PROMISE you, [in this case/this time..] YOU, ARE "The ONLY One", who- IS: - going to "HAVE TO"... - "pay the consequences" of YOUR OWN, "RE ACTions". Hence, why so many 'humans', 'bodys' ARE- "breaking down", at alarmingly rapid pace.

That isn’t how it works. No “god” is necessary. There are limited resources in nature. For plants, that means limited space to soak in sunlight and spread roots. So a plant that can utilize resources others can’t will be more successful at proliferating. For example, by sprouting and blooming where or when other plants aren’t, by utilizing nutrients that maybe others aren’t, and by producing chemicals that counteract parasitic bacteria and fungi better than in their neighbors. In this way, plants with niche specializations proliferate. It might then be the case that animals, such as ourselves, that eat a particular plant species also proliferate because some of the same innovations that benefit plants also benefit animals. Over time, there are more animals that eat the useful plant, simply because the ones that didn’t eat it don’t proliferate as well. And a concurrent benefit is that there are more useful plants for eating because animals have returned certain benefits - for example, fertilizing the plants with their gaseous, liquid, and solid wastes, carrying the plants’ seeds in their fur, between toes, or in their digestive tracts, and thinning out thick clumps of a species which might strengthen those that are left. For thousands of years humans have even been proactively cultivating the plants that we find the most useful. We think of cultivation as something we only do with vegetables and grains, but herbs and flowers have also been cultivated for thousands of years. So it isn’t a coincidence or a divine act that these plants exist. It is a result of natural selection, which in the last many thousand years includes human selection and cultivation.

I follow an herbalist and she recommends starting with a ratio of 1:5 so you can make a tea, oil or tincture. So you can adjust the recipe if you need it stronger. So an example is 1 oz herb to 5 oz liquid. Then add another 1/2 oz at a time till you reach a desired effectiveness. Good luck I too got very frustrated with the lack of specific information like measurements because the average Joe doesn't know how much to use, and fear doing it wrong. He did mention a 1:2 ratio so that would be for a tea 3 oz herb to 6 oz water.

FYI when making a tea, tincture or an oil and they say to use a certain ratio like 1:2 ratio means to use 1 oz herb to 2 oz liquid. I follow another herbalist who recommended starting with a 1oz:5 oz ratio and adjust it up by 1/2 oz for desired effectiveness. It's not always best to start too strong as some herbs are more potent than others. I hope this helps those who are leery to dive onto natural medicine. I understand the struggle!

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge; it's a wonderful video and it's great to know more about this special plant. As a native plant and wildlife enthusiast I just want to clarify that describing this herb as "invasive" is a bit misleading and confusing to some people. Solidago canadensis is one of many species of goldenrod which are native to North America. While goldenrod is a plant that grows in an assertive manner and can be considered to be "weedy" because it's such a strong grower, the word "invasive" implies that it's an introduced species that displaces native plants. It's a species that is really a very important food source for many creatures, including all manner of pollinators but also various caterpillars as well, including some butterflies. Those creatures then go on to be food sources for other creatures such as birds or reptiles... you get the picture. For those of you who say the plant is covered by "bugs" please don't try to get rid of the them! Being a tremendous source of food for many different creatures is just another one of this plant's amazing superpowers! Being such as strong grower, there should be plenty for all to share. Watch and be amazed friends! : ) Thanks again for your wonderful video, Yarrow!

Thank you for this great information! I've been disappointed lately because living in Texas (suburbia) I'm not finding ANYTHING to forage UNTIL NOW- there is a ton of goldenrod growing along the creek near me! I am so excited to harvest & tincture this! Most people think that is ragweed that's been making our allergies so bad this year- I learned yesterday that ragweed looks very similar (green flowers-same shape, shorter plant) & grows right next to /around the goldenrod here, but they are very different! I have heard that golden rod is the antigen to ragweed allergies- I am going to go get some today & start drinking it as a tea to find out if it works that way! Goldenrod is also said to be cardiotonic as well as being an antibiotic herb, it is helpful for the respiratory system & heavy metal detox as well.

We tincture it. I use it together with ragweed (preflowering), red clover and a small amount of lobelia. It has been a game changer. I use it a couple of times a day in allergy season plus more if I need it.

Been really getting into foraging and making tintures last few yrs. It really gets you back to where I think we all belong. In nature. Look at the world and society today. No thanks. I'd rather talk to plants and animals than deal with that! This world keeps you in a constant state of fear and hate cause you can't love and care while you hate and are afraid. Much 🥰 y'all.

I have curly dock and burdock
@entrepreneursfinest Жыл бұрын
@@michelleasunnydays140 It's a bitter concoction that I haven't found any method of making palatable but it has very good health benefits. I would use it perhaps once or twice a week for two to four weeks for a really good cleanse. Be cautious of any bittering agents such as dock if you have a history of gall bladder issues or stones, and since some people are allergic to goldenrod it should be treated thoroughly first to ensure no reactions are going to occur. Oxalic acid is also present in dock species. It's generally harmless in normal doses, but if there's a history of acidic kidneys or diabetic acidosis you may want to be cautious. In time it can lower uric acid levels in the body, but may elevate acidity temporarily when first taken.
