A true measure of a man. He will not show pleasure to his student because he wants the student to understand success is long term. It’s continuing in its process and development. Looking back, Tanaka needed this to help get him through the death of his son. Frank took on this burden to learn at the masters feet to give his mentor hope that the teaching will go on in spite of the loss of his son. And what better candidate to do that than someone who was already like family? In essence, Tanaka could see how deeply Frank cared about the art and his family. How much of a difference they had made in his own life. The philosophy that he taught him in youth was applied and the logic was sound. It was Frank's way of conveying gratitude for allowing him to be a part of his family. To raise him up from tragedy as Tanaka had done for him from delinquency. Brilliant writing and performance.

He never received any sword awarded to him and he traded in the sword to sea traveling pirates in exchange for the lives of young boys who were going to become slaves. Believe me, Bloodsport is a kickass movie. This movie will always bring out the inner warrior within us all. I've been watching this movie since I was 4 years old and now I'm 36 years old. I still have the same burning fire inside me from watching this scene since I was a child. This movie will never get old 💪🏾.

well , he is just one of the action stars thats get thumbs down from many people seen his movies , chuck norris and sly stallone are 2 other guys and even dolph lundgren ends up in , rotten tomates as bad actors and their movies they done , even tho sly has done rambo and rocky , the expandables and dolph was rockys enemy , and chuck norris delta force serie and his prime movie the octagon , and his good guys wear black , and hero and the terror , and JCVDs , hard target , maximum risk , double impact , just name a few from each one of these guys list of movies , downgraded by many folks .

The switch of the Katana by Dix at the end with his cheeky grin was in memory of when Tanaka sliced off the front of his baseball cap. Great movie, and yeh great soundtrack.

I was just watching this move yesterday, 09/30/2023 at 11PM. I was getting ready to sleep, the raindrops were falling from my roof onto the ground, my window halfway open just enough to enjoy the wind. Oh man oh man, how relaxing was to see this scene, feeling the mild cold breeze and smelling the wet grass, reflecting on my mind soul and spirit...

This 7 min training scene could have been a whole movie. There's just so much jam-packed into this one scene from the intro and background of Master Shidoshi, the mysterious passing of Shinji (I wonder what happened) and Frank Dux having to prove himself worthy of his master's training. Then, the actual training itself, the levels of improvement of student becoming the master, the coffee scene, and of course the culmination of all that training with the ball-stretcher torture ritual/method. And finally the ceremony at the end. Frank is now ready to honor his Shidoshi, Shinji, the family name, and win the ancient bloodsport contest. I love this movie.

That last scene where he gets awarded the Tanaka sword is what Started it all for my Bushido career. I obtained my shidoshis 60 year old sword two years ago...and that music played in my head during the ceremony 😢😢🥲

I mean we had Bruce with Enter the Dragon and many (well, not too many...) others but can we say that Blood Sport is the single most influential martial arts movie of all-time? I think we can! To this day I feel some indescribable hype when I watch this or listen to the sound track, this movie had something even other JCVD-classics like Kickboxer or Lionheart lacked.
