I'm actually fairly certain they aren't taking themselves too seriously. Look at the song name, the album covers, lucifer incestus and pestocalypse, it is definitely joke and mockery laden, the delivery is dry and serious. That's part of the theme. They ultimately want it to be musically serious (compared to the theme), and it's no different with abbath.
