The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is just a tourist attraction, it isn’t anything mystical and it doesn’t hold any authority over music. It’s not a crime, nor is it a shame that Super Tramp told their publicist not to bother with donating money to get inducted the R&R Hall of Fame. It’s nothing to worry about at all.

Supertramp from this era has held up very well in the time between then and now. And yes, they were not considered the best at the time. For many it's like riding bicycles, by late teens early 20s they're abandoning the bike. Same with fervent music listening. But some folks still listen into their dotage. Me, I stopped actively following modern music about 15 yrs ago because too much autotune, too much crap overproduction, too much hype, and too much style / pose / posture over substance.

What Supertramp is doing here on this is they are using the original album version with the original verses but, singing the choruses live. I think that this is some form of a hybrid version of the song, some parts seem different from the studio recording, Rick's vocals are slightly different and John's sax parts are different. This is certainly different from an actual live performance of the song that in my view lost its grit when played live. The version on the Paris album and later recordings fall into that realm. They kept this version shorter and tighter.

The beginning part of the video is what made me worry about the archives. Thankfully these VTRs were transferred now before it's too late.

I think that was done on purpose, early video effect.

I know about the video effects,, but there is damage at the beginning with the visible scan lines, and glitching around the edges. The visual effects was a common thing back then, not the little white lines that are partially visible. Those appear during some tape being stuck (and he reason for baking the tapes)

Absolutely brilliant song. That jazzy Fender Rhodes intro kills!

I used to work with a guitarist whose party trick was to play the Rhodes intro on guitar. Still does my head in thinking about it!

One of the rare lip syncs on the show. Why?

It became more lip synced toward the end of the show’s run.
