Seth Ford Young in the front seat wearing the green plaid shirt. Met him at a alt-punk rock show afterparty in Santa Cruz, back in 95. He was wearing an antique tux and dancing on top of a piano (with his girlfriend) belting out Broadway show tunes - totally surreal - the crowd f-in' loved it. We ended up being house mates for a bit when he first switched from punk rock bass to jazz standup style. One evening he spontaneously did a version of Mingus's, "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat", on an old acoustic guitar that had been lying around. It was like he'd been possessed by Tom Waits - every bit as great. Appropriately enough Tom chose him a decade later to play bass for a tour of Europe. And a short time after that..., viola!
