Gore's brilliance was graced by his Iraq War Trilogy "Perpetual War For Perpetual Peace", "Dreaming War", and "Imperial America".

The fact he is dead is almost unbearable. My favorite almost an-americanly intellectual American. R.I.P True Genius, the Light of the World. Condolences to America (and the World, actually) from Russia.

He never explained why he titled his biography of Gore Vidal "Sympathy for the Devil". Why? Because Vidal was an atheist? Charlie Rose should asked him to explain why he gave it that title.

i doubt Vidal believed the devil even exists. and if it does exist, it would be here on earth.

Gore Vidal is not a purveyor of Schadenfreude, he was devastatingly honest, he may have rub people the wrong way, in his manner. He was interested in truth, not opinion, for truth is cogent, irrefutable, and cannot be debated, opinion is a view or judgment formed about something not necessarily based on fact or knowledge and can be debated. He was my mentor and a rascal.

Vidal was really a product of an earlier age, something I think he understood. He was out of place in an America that was all about hustle and bustle to make a buck...he said Garfield was the best of American presidents and I think he would have been happy at that time...he was in a sense part of Welles' The Magnificent Ambersons.

Contrary to popular belief, people dont commit suicide for themselves, they do it because they feel they are a burden.
@tommym321

Lee Lorenz I think that is too glib of a statement. Suicide is, like humanity, complex and often contradictory. There are many many reasons why people kill themselves. Sometimes the reasons make sense to outsiders, sometimes they don’t.

His arrogance was a shield for personal insecurity. There are clips here and there where he lets the shield drop for a moment. I expect he fell into depression when he lost his sexual attractiveness (in the gay world). Fairly common.

everyone, once they get old enough, loses their sexual attractiveness. unless you die young. as you age you will slowly being to lose everything, for that matter.

Armchair critics rarely have any thing of value to contribute. Mere speculation is like diarrhea; everyone has an occasional bout with it but no one wants to hear about it.

Where does Gore , publically, drop his shield ? I've yet to see it, and im enormously fascinated if he has. If you could give more specific information, I'd be grateful. Of course, that's a tall order, and I dont mean to massively impose.

I noticed that some of these liberal commentaries, that is interviews (which are really not interviews but opportunities for these people to quote from their writings), that you cannot respond to some of the things that are said; comments are disabled. So when I find people, like this man I grew up hearing on television, speaking of gross error, I cannot correct him. Which means on the record he goes unchallenged with the truth! You have children and students etc. listening thinking what they’re hearing is brilliance when sometimes they are the hearing a bunch of BS. I caution you young people to check your facts when you listen to these people reporting history or attacking someone else who is not of their beliefs system. Your faith will be shaken in them I promise! Gore Vidal was one lazy author. In his day he rattled out a lot of cheap digs, and what I characterize as in sincere sympathy. It was easier to get away with this back in the days when you didn’t have any fact checkers. And I mean sincere fact checkers not those with an agenda! By the way, I dictated this remark I make no apologies for the computer misspelling things, improper use of punctuation, or capitalizing things that shouldn’t be.

Your opinions would carry more weight if you gave specific examples of errors and let us judge for ourselves instead of just insisting that we accept your conclusions.

these are interviews to give the people an opportunity to hear how Gore and others feel. they aren't up for debate and they don't need to be corrected. least of all by some twit in the comment section of a KZbin video. 🙄
