“Where you live shouldn’t determine whether you get educated. Where you go to school shouldn’t determine whether you get textbooks,” Smith said. “The opportunity you access should be determined by the fierceness of your intellect, the courage in your creativity and the grit that allows you to overcome expectations that weren’t set high enough.” Unfortunately if you are in high school and the curriculum is so low that your fellow classmates still don't know how to read, your teachers are trying to teach your classmates what a 'verb' is and consumer math ( basic addition and subtraction) is all that is required to graduate, it does. At such a young age you can not move to a city with a higher accredited school and make a path. You are subject to the opportunities or lack there of afforded to your parents. When you do graduate, colleges will look at your lowly accredited school, and deny you believing your diploma isn't worth the paper it was printed on. Even colleges will pass people unworthy so they can have a high graduate turn out rate. It is all about numbers. Unfortunately it is the world we live in. They did use the word 'SHOULD' I know it hurts. That money was more than likely wasted on at least 30 people.

Americans really don’t realize how far behind we seem to most other developed countries where college is either free or really inexpensive. People (Republicans) are really arguing that someone should have to work hard to pay off loans and don’t realize the global ramifications the astronomically high student loan debt has and how we look to the world. Which really the student loan system is a vulture anyway. I don’t know any bank or loan business that would give a $50,000 loan every semester or year to an 18 year old with no credit history yet that’s exactly how the system works.

Why are they obligated? People who are rich actually benefit other people because they are providing a good or service that people find valuable. In order to make money, one has to be providing something of value, otherwise no one would be purchasing it. In a free market, being rich typically indicates that you have provided society something that they have benefitted from because that is what typically happens in trade in the market: both sides usually gain from it (it's not a zero-sum game). So when people say billionaires are bad people, my response is not necessarily; they have provided society with something and are rewarded for it. Also, college students who have debt have chosen to take that course; they have only themselves to blame for the accumulation of debt.
@_rob_.5 жыл бұрын

Why would you wish that college students have no skin in the game? The rest of their lives won't be this way, why should college? What is their motivation to finish college, or to finish in a timely manner? This is not a good life lesson to be teaching young people.

@David Walker I agree. I feel like people without means expect those with means to simply offer themselves up and allow themselves to lose everything for everyone else's benefit. You can give back to people and communities without putting yourself in a financial ditch. If you can figure out HOW to to do both, why shouldn't you? How is the end result any different because the Billionaire can also use this act of kindness to his own benefit? Because one thing he could also do is NOT help these people at all and keep his money. If people are going to complain regardless, maybe they don't deserve any assistance. I'm sure these kids are EXTREMELY grateful. The hole they're being pulled out of as a result of this is enormous.

@Almighty God George Soros #420 #GetRekdI was working on another response to you, but I have to reply to this one simply because of how absurd it is. HOW THE HELL ARE YOU COMPARING THIS TO SLAVERY?! Your analogy makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The only way it would even be comparable is if this man personally MADE these students go to school, and personally held their student loan debt in his HAND. He didn't ask or tell any of these students to attend college, that was THEIR decision, and now he's paying off debt that they accrued as a result of THEIR decision. How the hell do you pull slavery out of that? I'm not even sure if you know what you're talking about anymore. I'm convinced you're trolling at this point, because if that was a serious comparison everyone else that agreed with you needs to reassess their viewpoints. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read.

Most news outlet kept calling him the "billionaire" and all of a sudden he has no name. Not even the nominal "Black man" is used.

A liberal arts degree will take you far. "Would you like to supersize dat?"
@d.felixphoto22605 жыл бұрын
Yea, because men going to Morehouse have to have a Bullshit degree and field of study you white people get at the university of Phoenix😂. Get a fuckin clue. Any Degree can have you asking that question. Thee real issue is many white People don't have shit from any reputable institution but their color gets them manager jobs 😂. So what is more important the degree or your race?

Thanks, University of Texas alumni 1988, architecture. Yes, a large order of fries, wid dat.
@d.felixphoto22605 жыл бұрын
@@markw4318 Again, you believe there are no people in this group of black men graduating with an architecture degree? You are clueless😂. That's not racist I guess. Opportunity isn't based on degrees its based on who you know and looks out for you. Most white People don't have to do shit and they get better jobs so is that a good thing or bad knowing many of the people who look like you are under qualified and are placed in leadership roles and we wonder why so many businesses fail.
