Hey Pete Toms look great and plenty of them.if you only have one with blossom end rot I would not worry too much…👍👍🍅

@GanggangPeanut I tried worrying, that didn’t work😂😂, so I got some lime. But joking aside, I didn’t want to lose any more, so thought better to be safe than sorry, I’ll be checking out that supplier you mentioned in your last video for some interesting varieties next year, thanks for sharing that. 🍅👍

Wow Pete marigolds look amazing. Sorry about the tomatoes 🍅 but lots of good advice on calcium additions, I crush up tums for mine. Have a fantastic week, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦

@@myrustygarden Thank you Ali, they sure do lift the spirits when I walk into the tunnel, I’ve only had the one with it, so no major problem, just don’t want anymore to get it. I did hear about tums, but couldn’t really find any information on amount to give, I’m a bit of a abc person, so words like “some” “occasionally” ect I struggle with😂,that’s why I always try and give as much detailed information as I can in my videos, of how much and how often extra. Thanks for the comment it’s always good to hear new information for the community. 🍅👍

Egg shells or dock leafs are a good sauce of calcium if you blend up egg shells and add it to the ground at the end of the season they wil break down over the winter and wil be available for the plant next year or you can get a liquid calmag feed and add a small amount everyother feed
@allotmentjoy2 ай бұрын
Hi Pete. There's also a product called Cal Mag. You can find it on Amazon. It's not a disease, just a deficiency in that plant. Look it up. Elaine 🍅🍅
@Petetrenouth2 ай бұрын
@@allotmentjoy as these were brand new beds I didn’t think I would have this problem, how wrong was I, will definitely be taking preventative measures earlier next year. Do you get it at yours Elaine?

@Petetrenouth Hi Pete. I've only had one plant with two toms like that but look at what you've grown Pete, stonking big plants, massively producing fruit. Something to bear in mind for next year, that is how you are going to continuously sustain their every needs for a demanding harvest. Just an idea, when you go to Malvern (I wish I could go) talk to exhibitors for some excellent tips. I hope your toms feel better soon 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅

Hi Pete I watch a channel called castle hill garden, which the gentleman who has the channel is a very experienced gardener and he swears by grating chalk around the base of the tomato plant so when he waters it goes down into the soil and feeds the soul that way. Or egg shells but they take a long time to break down
@Petetrenouth2 ай бұрын
@@laurathomason8693 I will go and check him out, thanks Laura. I guess it’s all just different ways of getting the lime to the plants, maybe putting some crushed eggshells in when planting would be a good idea?

I've had the odd tomato with blossom end rot. 2 different varieties out of 22 & 1 is supposed to be resilient to it. My tomatoes are in containers. I bought calmag and treated just those 2 varieties & I've not had it since. My first year growing too. My main problem now is my beefsteak tomatoes are splitting before they ripen. I've read I could be watering them too much so I've cut back. It's all a learning curve
@Petetrenouth2 ай бұрын
@@Jacqui-Pen wow, 22 varieties is impressive. A few other people have mentioned calmag, always good to share alternatives. Watering I find is a bit of a dark art as everyone has different conditions they are working with, it’s something that getting right will come with more experience as we grow and learn together. 🍅👍

Yup. It's caused by a lack of calcium. Some gardeners lime will definitely fix it.

@@jimstormcrow ideal Jim, I’ve caught it early so hopefully I’ll have no more, I’ve also made a mental note, and in the diary (as my memory is shot)😂 to start using it earlier next year.

Sounds great advice to me can i ask the size of the bag of of dolomite lime from Elixir they sell different sizes i like to buy my stuff over winter better looking at it than for it tks
@Petetrenouth2 ай бұрын
@@ballysillanallotment-man5793 it was a 1kg bag, but in hindsight I think a 500g bag would have done me, as I only used a few teaspoons worth, but at least I’ll have some for next year and as you rightly said, better to be looking at it than for it. Take care Pete.
