Its called a talk box, from what I know of it the sound from the keyboard comes through that tube and then he shapes his mouth as if hes singing and it comes out like words. Only saw it once but pretty sure thats how it works.

Rowetta is decent on this cover it is strange backing vocals that are really similar to the original that she’s doing

The issue with having the background vocalist like this is that she sounds like she has a lot of power in her voice and she's trying to lessen her power and he sounds good but needed a lighter higher pitched vocalist that didn't have as much power to emphasize his voice otherwise you notice the background vocals more due to their intensity even though she is trying to not sing strong. Either way I enjoyed it :)
