you mentioned how the clear layer you put down has a magnifying effect on the fume...just curious; have you ever played around with the idea of making...well, really, aNy kind of lenses? or prisms? I know certain types of lenses- especially in eyeglasses/contacts- have extremely tight specs... but if you had no exact spec in mind (say, 8x magnification, or a certain focal length or whatnot), and just wanted tamale something that plays with ambient light, would it be possible? or would it lend itself more to a cold fusion process? thanks for the clear steps and quality video, and for sharing your skill! well played and well met, good sir.

Hey Kim! Thank you for your comment! I haven't made any lenses or prisms, but I do make faceted pendants thefusingshop.com/polished-glass-gems. The principles are similar to making a prism which is cutting and polishing a piece of glass. Lenses are at a whole different level. They need to be free of optical defects and have a super fine polish.

That's awesome! The start-up costs of lampworking can be pricey. Depending on how large of pieces you want to make, you can usually get a decent beginner torch for $500-600. Your torch is going to be your biggest expense so get the best one that is within your budget. If you plan on working with borosilicate glass as I do, then you need an oxygen and propane torch. You can check out facebook to see if anyone is selling used torches as well as talkglass.com. You'll also need an oxygen tank, propane tank, regulators, flashback arrestors, and a ventilation fan. You can see my setup in this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKK1aKN3h5xgj7M. Hope this helps!

@@thomasbeef1852 I like this thinking Thomas. Selling glass really depends on the demand and getting consistent orders for the same piece. Once you've mastered making your best seller you'll be pretty well off.

HOW long did it take to make the pipe.? Nice work.
@FusingShop9 ай бұрын
Hi Joseph! I didn't time myself but probably about 20 minutes. Doesn't take too long once you get the hang of making them. I can probably make it much faster than I did in this video since this video is from 3 years ago. All the best! Sim
