Life feels like a hot mess but progress is being made. Immediately after shooting this too I had another breakthrough in regards to what good should look like output wise. My hope is sharing the journey like this is helpful to some of y'all.
I also wanted to take the opportunity to talk about the larger corporate ecosystem based on something I saw in "Just Me Rod's" newsletter. There is a ton to discuss on this topic alone. So much more content to be made!
Thank you all for the support and encouragement. I can't thank you all enough.
Love,
Timm

During my college years, a guest speaker who was a business owner shared an insight that has always resonated with me: "Just because I am the CEO does not mean I get paid the most. I may be the fifth highest-paid person in my company because I do not bring the most value.' I think this is the type of healthy perspective shift you are trying to get others to adopt when it comes to compensation.

I think what you are highlighting which I think is important for people in corporate to know is sometimes it appears the upper levels of management look chill but you don’t know what serious conversations they are having to have etc. They may not be on the tools as much but the stress they hold and if they are good at what they do they hide that stress from teams. Thats my experience anyway

Timm! This stuff is gold and I'm right on that cusp of middle management that is just needing to take in all the Corporate America knowledge you can share. Here's some quick feedback on your videos as a product designer and life long YT bingewatcher: 1. your thumbnail game - we need to see your face in them, every single time with a short title in simple typography. The current font of your thumbnail title gets really lost in the chaotic awesomeness that is your basement and we get no TC that we get in the first frame of every tiktok vlog 2. your table gadgets and gizmos - I love it but it kind of feels like I'm in a principal's office and it creates this rift between you and the audience. Put it in the background somewhere to add to the kitsch. Let the the camera come in closer to the message and messenger aka you. 3. optimize the hell out of your titles - right now your die hard fans will open all of your videos regardless because we KNOW you have a shit ton of value to deliver but a passerby being served a TC yt video has no idea based on faceless thumbnail and current titles. Your thumbnail and title need to sell. You made an entire living on selling so I won't preach to the choir about that ;) 4. how I consume your content and hopefully it'll give some insight to how you can structure - your tiktok vlogs = fun, snippy entertainment, your YT = longer form edutainment with pictorials. It would be great to have your YT vids be available in podcast format so I can tune in on walks or communes to the office to send a little pep in my step as I log onto Corporate Canadia :) 5. chunk the knowledge you have into digestible series and chapters: as a content consumer, I love the feeling of 'finishing' a series, like an unofficial commencement of a course I enrolled in. I think MasterClass/Skillshare would be great places to glean inspiration for your first Corporate 101 series. keep at it Timm! can't wait to see the progress to come and this is inspiring me to dust off my content creation skills to whip up some new stuff.

Timm, could you visit Corporate Denmark/Corporate Scandinavia and share with the Corporate America folks that there are other models out there that could work? I would love to hear your perspective on how they can be world leaders but still maintain family centred workplaces and some humanity. Or perhaps they don't?? I'm off to watch the second video.

As a TikTok/KZbin creator, how much (if any) time do you spend consuming content? I know content consumption gets in the way of productivity for many people, but how do you navigate that when it's part of your job now? Thanks!

you have a wonderful family, which is a great youtube asset, but you need to show them all the time doing all kinds of things and talking and discussing things, you and them living sort of on stage, I can see how this could be tremendously successful very fast, if you only want it. I started watching you because of Morgan and because I lived in NYC for some time. Morgan's wife didn't want to take part in the videos, but she has to, because people demand it, they want to see the whole picture, the entire life of the farm. And it wouldn't be enough if he just sits with a piece of paper and says what has recently happened, he has to show everything, illustrate what he is talking about. You also made a few great videos of this kind, where you show what you do, how things happen, how life is going on. But merely talking will not do on youtube...

fair enough! I'm still pretty new to all of this and appreciate that more family stuff would be welcome. this will all evolve and TikTok and IG were pretty open on all fronts so I am sure that will end up here too. thanks!

Timm… you said this a 1:1 so here is my observation. The book should be your core; coaching, videos and a high % of the content should be supportive the book and its future launch. Use these platforms for your research; see how comments and things land with the audience but also content that you put in the book can be reused in the future (linked on the book website etc..). here is my hard truth; have you recovered from burnout? My guess is no yet throughout this video I just keep thinking “he is out of corporate America yet is now still on the hamster wheel running just as fast as you were before.” Why??? Burnt out Timm doesn’t support an on time book delivery in a lower stress environment. So I ask “what are you chasing and why?”. Why are you modeling a 4am to 9 pm day when that may not be realistic (and kudos to you for owning that). So I challenge you to give yourself grace. Also; many authors hide away in a remote place to write for 1-2 weeks. Can you create an internet free and uninterrupted space at home for a few hours each day and cut down on your daily time blocking and add in more shenanigans with Evelyn and Kelly? Film those for content and keep using your editor.. hope you don’t mind me sharing my thoughts and observations from this corporate America mid-manager. 🤗

love all of this, thank you. I don't disagree, I signed up for way too much stuff this summer but 80% of it is family stuff that I probably haven't done like this in 11 years. I know this is currently not the perfect model but that is why I am being transparent about it so others might be able to learn from my mistakes and how things evolve too. thanks again for the thoughtful comment!

youtube is just weird and that's what it is, you give a very informative talk and they don't watch, you show how you get up and get dressed, or how you help your wife to make dinner chatting with her about nothing much, and then they get addicted to watching your life... I guess you'd better make a paid specialized seminar for young corporates, because a general viewer is like I said above.
