Due to a copyright claim, we have had to remove our titles and music, both at the beginning and end of this video. Apologies if it makes the video appear a bit clunky at the beginning.
In this video we take a walk near Newquay starting from Trevarrian, a village on the busy Padstow to Newquay road. Our destination is the popular resort of Mawgan Porth, a couple of miles along the South West Coast path. It is a few hours before Storm Arwen will hit the UK and the winds build throughout the afternoon.
Reaching Mawgan Porth was challenging with strong, northerly winds beating us against the cliff. Once we arrived, the tide was out and we had a fantastic beach to explore. The northerly wind was whipping up the sand and creating ripples in the standing water on the beach. It was difficult to stand up, let alone talk to camera!
Our video takes a look at the development of Mawgan Porth, with a couple of older photographs for reference, and it is possible to track the changes over time. We also explore some local stories gathered by the WI, involving a skeleton, a shipwreck and crazy golf!
The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on KZbin, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
Frequently asked questions:
What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dog, perhaps you can make up your own name for him.

Thank you both for another excellent video. My wife and I have some wonderful memories of our holidays in Cornwall over the years. Mawgan Porth is lovely, as are St Ives, Carbis Bay, Porthcurno, Lizard, Sennen Cove, St Mawes etc,. We have both enjoyed a few cream teas at the Porthmeor Beach cafe, and Minnack Theatre not to mention the Cheese and Onion pasties from the Prima bakeries near Redruth. Kelly's ice-cream and also the ice cream from Jus, Desserts in St Ives. 😋 Very nice. Sadly I am 68 yrs old now and my wife is also 60+. Our last visit was in 2019 Mid May always (quieter) then. We live in Scotland and it is over 500 mls, to Glorious Cornwall, a bit too far to drive now. You are both very blessed to live where you do. Please keep the videos coming. Take Care God Bless.

That was a very brave walk in wild windy weather, how about ‘Stormy Weather’ for the background choice of music, plain and to the point, you always come up with some wonderful history of the places you visit like Mawgan Porth, the story of the wine barrels drifting ashore reminded me of ‘Poldark’s’ encounter with the sinking of Warleggans ‘Queen Charlotte’ on Hendrawna Beach, at one point the wind almost blew your canine cutie away, and I don’t think he thought the coastal path seemed like a good idea as he clearly wanted to go home, Andrew ever the optimist thought it would be ok.and of-cause he was right up to a point, but as you say Sarah you won’t forget that walk in a hurry, thank you both for a bracing breath of fresh air! 🤗👋

Although HAYLE is my go to holiday destination, in 2017 I did stay in Mawgan Porth. Your windy walk, in part is where I walked. Never again. Gale force winds and hardly any track. Going up - past "the shops" (I think there was a gate and you went up besides someone's house) was deceptive as soon you were very high up and the path very narrow! Despite this I sat down with my packed lunch but getting back was difficult as my rain mac kept filling with wind! I was scared & gripped onto the grass and came down most of the way on my bum! It's cool though that you've both walked on some of the same areas as me!

Oh, how I love a walk in a windstorm, especially by the sea! So much fun to watch this adventure, though I felt for your poor puppy with cold, wet feet. It's such a treat when you provide photos of the places you visit from different times in history. I kept thinking of Poldark, with the smuggler's boats coming into Nampara Cove in a storm. While it's also fictionalized, the TV series The Last Kingdom (based on books by Bernard Cornwell) provides a glimpse into the history of Alfred the Great, his son Edward, and his son-in-law, AEthelred, Lord of Mercia. In that version, AEthelred and his army were in the wrong place when the Danes attacked, and showed up after the battle was over. Cheers to you both. Hope you warmed up with a good pot of tea.
