They produced and put out their first album and sent out copies to radio stations. In Cleveland, one radio station chose Working Man as a nice "bathroom song". A song that was long and the DJ can put it on and it'll play long enough for them to run to the bathroom. Cleveland loved it! It started getting played on that radio station, and the studios heard that there was an unsigned band already getting radio airtime and signed them up. That started their career. This song is one of their favorites, and a huge fan favorite too. I don't think I ever saw a concert where they didn't play it.

Not only is Rush one of the greatest group of recording artists of all time, but they were also well known as one of the best live performance bands in rock history as well. Yes, must do YYZ live in Rio! Other fantastic live performances can be found on their live albums 'All The World is a Stage' and 'Exit Stage left' and 'A Show of Hands' and 'Rush: Chronicles' and 'Different Stages' and 'Rush: Live in Rio' and 'R30: 30th Anniversary Tour' and 'Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland' and 'Clockwork Angels Tour' and 'R40: 40th Anniversary Tour.' I might have missed some too. All live album releases spanning their career released in audio and/or video format medias (CD, LP, cassette, DVD, Blu-ray, and even on VHS and Laserdisc formats back in the day) and I think most or all can be found on KZbin either on Rush's own channel or Rush fan channels. But of course on KZbin just search [Rush 'song title' live] and one or more live versions of most of their songs will come up.

Alex and Geddy are childhood time friends and Neil joined them in the first years the band formed,,, they since played together from their 20's thru their 60's... three gentlemen, three virtuosos, for me, the best band ever. Xanadu live from exit stage left is a must see, La villa strangiato live 1978, The garden live from clockwork angels tour are 3 of my favourite performances from them... wait until you are super hooked then listen to their 20 minutes ultimate master piece called 2112... if you listen to it, I recommend the comic book version it will help you follow the story.. remember nobody comes back from the rush rabbit hole the same as before... enjoy!

This was released in 1974 on thier first album, the only one without the GOAT Neil Peart on drums (RIP!). I saw them live in 1978, 1979, and 1981. They are amazing! Not sure why they wanted you to watch this version first. I would have had you listen to the Live Version off All The Worlds a Stage first, then go to this. But you can still go back to the All The Worlds' a Stage version. There is not a bad version of the song but Geddy Lee's voice did change over the years as would be expected. You can even go all the way back to the 1974 Bandstand show with John Rutsey, thier original drummer. Alex shreds and Geddy's voice is fresh. Again they are all awesome.

These guys are your favorite musicians, favorite musicians! Once you listen to 2112 you'll hear how Geddy had incredible range with his younger voice (He does two different ranges completely). Cleveland was the first place to break RUSH on the American airwaves so it was only fitting that they ended their tour there. BTW Alex is incredible on guitar but if you watch SRV live doing Texas Flood at El Macambo you'll know understand why many consider him the best ever to plug in. Stevie didn't plug into his amp, he plugged into his soul!

That section they did at the end was the intro to Cygnus X-1, an epic masterpiece that starts as the closing track from their 1977 album A Farewell To Kings and continues as the opening track on their 1978 album Hemispheres, adding up to 30 minutes guaranteed to make your brain explode. If you'd first like to see some more mind-blowing guitar work, I'd like to recommend Limelight and Freewill from Exit Stage Left and Natural Science from their 1997 Toronto show. Have a great evening, and Rush on! 🎤 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐

Three guys pushing 60 at the end of a three hour show showing the young ones how it is done! I wouls suggest listening to the studio version as this song was off their album with their original drummer John Rutsy. The reggae section was not on the original but when you have been playing this song since 1974 you like to change it up once and a while. LOL You mentioned their brotherhood and yes they were the best of friends. To see how these guys get along please check out Dinner with Rush. Also, YYZ live in Rio Xanadu from Exit Stage Left Digital man from the Snakes and Arrows tour I am enjoying your excitement in watching my favourite band. Cheers

Rush live concert videos are amazing! Personally, one of my favorites is 'Digital Man' live from the Snakes & Arrows tour. Sadly, Rush is no longer, because the drummer, Neil Peart (who also wrote their lyrics) died of brain cancer in 2020. They did have an amazing 40-year career, though, and no two Rush albums sound the same. The guitarist, Alex Lifeson, and the singer/bassist/keyboardist, Geddy Lee, have been best friends since age 13. Neil joined Rush just after the release of their first album in 1974, and they all three quickly became the closest of friends throughout their career. Today, Geddy and Alex still get together once per week to play Rush songs and jam together for fun, but they insist that they will not reform Rush or tour without Neil. I do hope they will do some sort of music project together someday, though. Their long history as bandmates and their personal and musical chemistry is amazing.

I posted a lengthy comment for another reactor to this song just a few days ago, so I figure I might as well cut and paste it here for you too. _____________ Yes, Neil Peart did acquire a new, custom-made drum set for each tour. You can even find videos about each one. I seem to recall that this set was actually gold-plated. The clock, gramophone, and other props signified the fact that this performance took place on their Time Machine Tour. I caught them on this tour in Hamilton, Ontario, which is only about 25 miles west of Toronto. They also performed in Sarnia, Ontario (which is across from Port Huron, MI). On the next tour, they also did a show in London, Ontario, about 120 miles to the west of Toronto. They could easily sell out these smaller venues (i.e. hockey arenas) because of their wide and deep fan base throughout Southern Ontario, which is where they cut their chops for about 6 years, before they were ready to release their first album. Speaking of which, Rush couldn't attract any interest from the Canadian outposts of US recording labels, so they and their managers (one of who remains their manager even today) just launched their own label. Next, they started sending out copies of their self-entitled debut, Rush, to DJs throughout Canada and in the US Northeast. One such copy was received by a DJ/Program Manager at Cleveland's then-only rock radio station, Donna Halper (who, by the way, was one of the first female DJs in the US). As she has explained in interviews, she thought the 'Zeppelinish' sound of the tracks (which featured Rush's original drummer, John Rutsey) would be perfect for her working class audience. She also liked the fact that some of the songs on that album, including Working Man, were just long enough so that a DJ could nip off to the bathroom and get back before it ended. And that's how Working Man was the band's first hit (not like BillBoard Hot 100, but enough to get offered a US record deal). Rush has accordingly always had a special relationship with its Cleveland audiences, so it was only fitting that they decided to record their Cleveland performance for posterity. So, when Geddy said "best audience ever," it's likely that he really meant it (although one could make the argument that their shows in São Paulo and Rio had even better attendees!). PS - Yes, this was their third and final encore song. It's worth adding that this performance of Working Man was preceded by approximately 3 hours of playing other songs in their vast catalog with the exact same intensity as you witnessed here. At the time, Neal Peart was 5 months shy of his 59th birthday, and Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee were 58 years old. PPS - The very short riff at the end was from the last track on Rush's 6th studio album, 1977's A Farewell to Kings. It was entitled Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage. Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres would be the first track on their 1978 album, Hemispheres. Many Rush fans, myself included, think that these two songs, taken together, were truly epic, so much so that they were better than even 2112. PPPS - After they were signed, but before they began their first US tour, John Rutsey left the band. Various reasons have been given over the years for his departure, the most common two being his health (childhood diabetes but living a rowdy rock and roll lifestyle) and creative differences (as Lifeson once put it, John was more Bad Company, whereas Geddy and Alex were more Genesis [and, possibly also King Crimson, but my memory fails me here]). In other words, straight-down-the-middle 70's rock versus progressive rock...
