Incredible interview - very well done. I'm from an Air Force family and one of our best friends was a test pilot at Edwards in the early days of the shuttle program. He flew chase planes (T-38's) on shuttle landing simulations. He commented on how dramatic it was and how it was hard to imagine landing something like the shuttle, staring out the windshield at that attitude, with no power behind you. The graphic he gave of the rate of speed - faster to the ground than a parachutist without a parachute - was a remarkable image of the severity of that descent. I always kind of liked my 10:1 glide ratio in the 182.

Thanks David - I was equally stunned by so many things Tom said. It was a heck of a lot of fun getting to talk to him and I'm so thankful for it.

Having worked for the space program for the last 30 years, specifically in crew training, I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. It’s a rare glimpse into a day in the life but more importantly it gives your viewers a chance to meet an incredible human. It takes an extraordinary amount of work and focus and dedication and sacrifice to get the opportunity to explore space and even more to actually get there. My heroes have always been astronauts. You did an amazing interview. Congratulations. Thanks for a great hour!

Thanks a bunch for this. Tom is an incredible guy and I could listen to him for hours. I was just the lucky one that got to ask him some questions.

this is brilliant! You've heard so many interviews with astronauts before, but this is one is so much down to earth (pun intended), all the details. Brilliant indeed!

Absolutely awesome. Thanks a lot for sharing this incredible interview. I have the feeling that, ironically, astronauts are very down to earth people. They have the privilege to fully understand how unique and insignificant we are at the same time, and I truly believe that that makes them very special human beings.
@AirplaneAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michel. I think that was one of my biggest takeaways, how humble and down to earth he was. It made spaceflight feel less out of reach and more something that we can appreciate together even if we're not astronauts ourselves.

Wow Charlie you did a fantastic job interviewing Tom. Screen shots, background , camera movement , and the lighting in the hanger. All done so professionally and with taste. I don’t think anyone could have done any better than you did. Tom is really quite a dynamic guy and as a commander should, he put you in a comfortable position which only made this video that much better. Sooooo impressed with you kind Sir. 👍👍

This is only the second video I have watched since I found your channel, oh boy do you have a life long fan! That was one of the most interesting interviews I have watched in my life time. I'm only a small time 'aviator' flying a paramotor around the sky, but I have taken so many positive thoughts away with me for when I fly next.
@AirplaneAcademy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben - first off, jealous of the paramotor for SURE! Secondly, thanks for the encouragement. This was definitely my favorite video to make as I was just blown away getting to talk to Tom for that length of time. Really, really fun to hear his perspective. Thanks for watching!

Charlie...I've watched several interviews...many suck. This is one of the best interviews I have ever watched. It was informative, yet human. Your questions were well-prepared and the conversation just flowed. Granted, he's just a good-ole farm boy (as a good-ole farm boy...I relate), so he's likely a great guy!

Loved this, normal and down to earth, but suspect he downplayed the training they went through to deal with 'non nominal' conditions
