Mike I do hope that future machine designers watch this video. The reason in my thinking is that when they design route for Hoses and pipes etc that they think first and ask this question to themselves. When this hose, pipe or filler is going to be used when all guards and panels are as the finished article. Can that person reach and undo whatever with ease? If not then redesign it so you can. This has always been an issue when working on any machine the trouble you had to even get your finger on the nut without a crow foot you would have been in trouble. Think of when I was repairing those same machines without the aid of a hammer drill out in the wild without electric. I await your attitude to the designers when you come to refit those pipes. Cut a hole in the floor easier than growing an extra foot on your arms. Great video and I commend your attitude and answers to many of the negative comments some make about what and how you do things. I say keep on doing your way or they if they do not like it should take the Highway out of there. You and the family Stay safe and well over there.

You know dirt is the killer of hydraulics.

We did a floor patch job on a front end salt loader last spring. Cutting all the panels and had cut to shape stainless diamond plate to fit in the openings in the 3/4" frame. Than welded a bunch of hold up mounting tabs to bolt the plates flush with the top of the 3/4" plate frame. After it was all done it had a spiders web pattern to it.

For the future, don't mess with chisels to break bolts, just use the cut off wheel on your grinder and take the heads off. You will have less of a chance of damaging to the lower support holding the threaded part of your bolt. Sub flooring doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. Good luck Mike and thanks for sharing.

Just been watching the playlist for the 555. Just a suggestion. Look into tractor supply for hydro lines. They have pre made lengths and sizes on the shelf at lower prices than the hydro shop charges. You may need adaptors and hoses most likely will be too long too. Good luck with all that plumbing. The struggle is real! "I know this video is 7months old too"

Cap’n thanx for the tip. I’ll tuck that away in my bag of tricks for the next time I need to loosen hoses. Perhaps I can try it out in my old garden hoses when I dig them out this spring? That floor pan was one molecule of rust away from falling apart. Fortunately, you brung the right tool for the job. Those rock chisels are perfect for cutting bolts. And, their safety guards are great for holding them in place for serious hammer strikes. Iffen one didn’t know better, he might assume they were actually designed for removal of triple nickel floor pans! I think it was wise to replace all those hidden hoses… it looked like they were just one bucket of dirt away from blowing. And, at the price of oil, you may have saved enough to pay for them anyway. Take care bud… I’ll see you in the next one.

In regards to the part of the video where you used a crows foot to loosen the fitting. I find the 12 pt style crows foot works better but they can be expensive to buy. So I keep a lot of extra old wrenches around and when I need a crows foot for a line on my equipment I dig through my pile of extra wrenches, cut the box end off the one I need with about an inch of handle left on maybe less and weld a female end off a broken adapter or extension onto it, then cut the box end open just enough to fit over the line. Works great and has saved me a bunch of money since I have the extras lying around anyways. Don’t weld too much at once, the heat will affect the shape of the box end and always cut it open after.

And while they are off, it could be wise to cover the replacement hoses with fire hose too. I agree with you and Mike on the state of the cab, definitely salt corrosion there. Couldn't believe the amount of crud you took out the cab, will be interesting to see how much metal you will use to repair. Keep it up - it is always a treat to catch up with your many projects and listen to the running humorous commentary. Ha ha -also noticed you decided to wear light colored sweatshirt the day you dove under the 555 to do the hydraulic line removals.
