Reminds me of the 12 volt sparkplug cleaner I used in the 1980's that sandblasted the plugs clean :-) Sounded like a coffee grinder but she cleaned plugs well enough to run another week or two, KLG brand plugs which were black so you had to look closely but even with leaded Super fuel sooty plugs were sooty plugs.

Try smaller idle jets Scotty. At idle the size of the carbs venturi isn't really an issue as the trottle blades are mostly closed so it'll all be down to the idle jets. Bigger carb may show its size driving around town at part throttle coming off the idle circuit and the engine may bog down but that can also be down to the main jets and emulsion tubes being the wrong size. Whacking a wideband in the exhaust with a dash gauge is a great way to road tune old carb'd engines.

Plugs are cheap... Those are words that you will never hear come out of my mouth. I remember when they were $1 each, now that was cheap. You could afford to change them as needed. If you can't get new plugs, then a point file comes in real handy as the main area you need clean is the tip and the ground. You can always close them up a bit too until you get fresh plugs.

@blownhemi I've had trouble over the years with my race bikes and a few cars over the years have issues fouling plugs on 98, a engine tuner was the one that told me, also said BP 98 was the better of all the 98 octane fuels at the time, was due to the specific gravity and density of the fuel going through a carb, it didn't atomize properly because the fuel was designed for fuel injectiom.....that was back in the early 2000's, but fuel could be better now.

Fake news, AUs never refuse to start! Good on you Scotty, the ute sounds sweet now. Needs more time working and less time idling is all! :)

I agree the ute needs to get out more, there's just no a lot happening during winter.

@@blownhemi yep it's the eternal struggle with a car like that - and I wouldn't want to be getting it wet and risking it rusting etc... one of those things!

Not true, scotty's is a dual fuel Series I which have issues with cold morning starts as the computer switches from petrol to LPG before engine reaches temp where the coolant can do its job to have the converter to convert liquid to gas, re: those converters do not have the "stepper motor" which is an igniter, also have to be careful the the throttle body does not reject the gas/oxygen mix and blows out the air box (which is known to happen on dual fuel versions) which as Soctty has said before can lead to bending conrods. It's also the reason why Ford went to the trouble to switch from Dual Petrol/LPG to a dedicated LPG system (or was its Tickford) the warranty repairs were costing them $$$ of those factory dual fuel Falcons.

@@mahcooharper9577 - I installed a extra heavy duty battery to crank the engine until it fires up, which is good and bad at the same time, good as the battery ahs heaps of power bad for the starter motor, overall the E:Gas Falcon in winter is a gazz guzzler (pardon the pun) fuel economy in metro areas is like 25L per 100km but out on the highway it settles down to around 13L per 100km, which is fine while LPG is still around 95c per litre (here in Sydney) but if it were higher like in regional areas at $1.30 then yeah its not worth driving with that fuel consumption during winter, its just that the engine takes forever to get to operating temp and during that period the system is working hard to keep the engine at steady idle and at the same time provide performance. During spring and summer no issues and fuel consumption is good at 15L in metro and as low as 9L on the highways.

Scotty just my view feel free to reject it, time to ditch carby and move to fuel injection. yes I know budgets are tight but there are some good Throttle body (so Central Fuel Injection) fuel injection systems and electric fuel pumps with base ECU that can be tuned, for one thing it will sort out cold start air/fuel mix and operating temp idle mix way better than carby ever will. Of course just my view. Love the you brought back your own channel, I'll be that person and say that Carnage is getting stale with that awful Commodore Ute build, meh give us more Lexcen, Commodore sedan and Falcon content over there the UTE stuff is a giant commercial for Carnage sponsors, again just an opinion and yes I know sponsors are a nessacary evil.

While EFI would be nice, I don't Dad would have gone that way, which is why I'm choosing to leave it carby for the time being.

@@blownhemi - and that is fair enough, well then if that is the choice made then time to look into what "Holley" carby or "Webber" carby will work for the Valliant. Also I am no mechanic or even your level (I prefer to work on computers and servers) but would not moving to electronic ignition also help or am I wrong on that? Notice you side stepped the Carnage stuff *wink*wink ... nah all good Scotty keep up the good work.

Hi Scotty, since you now are the owner of the Trolvo, did you ever think of putting a slant six in as they put out wicked power to the wheels. It would certainly make it different.

Haha, nah, I think that would be a step backwards. Great classic engine but not the engine for the Trolvo.
