Hello Neil, great month of additions so far. It made me smile to see you with The Entertainer. Those special features are excellent. I've seen them a few times. Always amuses seeing the ladies and gentlemen of that era on the beach dressed as if they were going out for dinner. Love in the Afternoon is a Wilder I don't have. I don't think we even have a dvd over here. Hope the rest of your stuff turn up soon.

Hi Roy. I was very pleased to find that bfi release of The Entertainer. Your wonderful video talking about the film and showing the theatre and locations now would make a great special feature to include on a future release…..I have seen Love in the Afternoon before and generally liked it but struggled to warm to Gary Cooper’s performance as he seemed out of place. But it’s a role that he was apparently very fond of. Will be interesting to rewatch. Thanks for watching

American Outlaws sounds like a real potential trainwreck. A pretty much unknown at the time Colln Farrell leading in a western like this sounds too intriguing to miss! Something you might be interested in, I watched today was East Riders/Raging Bulls about the era between 1966 and 1980 when the emergence of new directors leading filmmaking over producers... People like Coppola, Bogdanovich, Spielberg, Altman and Peckinpagh. It's all done through interviews and was very interesting....

Hi Erik. Yes, I don’t have high hopes for American Outlaws but it’s got quite a cast and I’m interested to see what approach it takes….I think I read the book of Easy Riders Raging Bulls a while back and didn’t know a documentary had been made also. Thanks, I will look it up

Hi Neil, Finally, a new dose of Neil's videos. Yeah! The only one of these I own is Love In The Afternoon. I remember Enemy Mine from years ago. It was a good one. I have seen Fences and that Dracula with Frank Langella. The BFI movies look good, especially Shooting Stars and Pink String and Sealing Wax. Some good buys there! Hope things are going well.

Thanks, Marcus. Yes, in general I’m not too bothered about all the various Elm Street/13th sequels but this one sounds like a bit of ridiculous fun. Thanks for watching

Freddy vs Jason is a fun mixture, Friday the 13th and a nightmare in Elm Street. Enemy mine I have that copy you showed it was one of my favorite movies because it was always on TV back in the 90s but the transfer on that is really not spectacular .

Thanks, Mike. At the cinema I didn’t go beyond the first three Elm Street movies and I think I’ve only seen the first two Friday the 13ths. It will be interesting to rewatch Enemy Mine, I remember liking it

Hi Neil, I’m not sure it casting Colin Farrell as Jesse James is inspired of just foolish… please let us know, once you’ve watched it 🧐 blimey The Company Of Wolves take me back 🤔 I watched the stage version of War Of The Worlds on Tv a few months back and it looked incredible, I’m going to have to get tickets to the actual show one day. Color Out Of Space is so bizarre. I have Pink String And Sealing Wax (purely because it’s set in Brighton) but I’ve yet to see it 😬 nice BFI grabs Neil 🙌 fingers crossed for you on the postal strike, take care mate👍😃👍

Hi Alan. Yes, the fact I hadn’t even heard of American Outlaws before doesn’t bode well but it will be interesting to check out. I just rewatched The Company of Wolves last night - some really great production design on a low budget but the narrative structure is a bit wobbly. Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds double album used to be one I’d play over and over. Color out of Space definitely bizarre, I tend to struggle a bit with many HP Lovecraft adaptations. And yes, I remember being envious of you having Pink String and Sealing Wax as it only seems to be available in the UK. Glad I can now check it out. Have a good week, sir

Some nice films. I don't have it but I have always liked Love In The Afternoon. It would be interesting to see Denholm Elliott as George Smiley. I do need to get an all region player. I do have The Prisoner on blu-ray and it may make an appearance in my 1967 video. You showed some very interesting BFI films and I hope the strike ends and you can get the rest of your order.

@neilsmoviechannel3199 Ай бұрын
Thanks, Randy. I picked up an LG all region player a year or so ago, it is handy to have. Haha, I thought it likely you would have The Prisoner, a series I really should have seen before now. Yes, it was a bit frustrating to discover my order of BFI films had been split into two packages but hopefully I’ll receive the others soon. They definitely have some great releases. Thanks for watching

Hi Neil, Late watching video's again, I don't think i have watched that version of Dracula but i have heard good things about it. The company of wolves has a great cast in it, i tried watching it a few weeks back but couldn't get into it, Will give it another go but i think on the night i it just wasn't for me.

Hi. I rewatched The Company of Wolves a few nights ago and it reminded me of my original frustrations with it. Some great production design and effects achieved on a low budget but the narrative meanders too much. It’s fine but I wish I’d enjoyed it more

I gotta be honest re: company of wolves, it has a great george fenton score, really good acting particularly by lansbury, technically is almost flawless, but I do find it very slow and boring. Yet certain moments have stayed with me over the years, and particularly the Fenton score is one of my favorites, so Id say it has a certain je ne sais quoi, a sort of fascination about it and a great atmosphere

Western Approaches is a great piece of British propaganda, just like Went the Day Well? Pat Jackson's decision to use real people instead of actors was beneficial to the narrative structure, plus the production used Technicolor for most of the films production. I did read that some of the locations scenes used a system called Monopack, which I wasn't familiar with. The Technicolor aspect was probably used to market the film more effectively to other countries. I did pick this up on DVD via Optimum Releasing back in the day. Unfortunately, the DVD hasn't been fully restored, so I may as well pick up the new Blu-Ray from the BFI. Company of Wolves has probably one of the best British production design studio sets I've seen. But then the production designer in question was none other than Anton Furst of Batman 89. I think the only digital effect applied to CofW's was where the sky has been altered in someway. I really don't mind the slow storytelling of Wolves. Whilst others want the quick fix and action/horror approach, this film feels more like a fireside story told with time and thought and some frights added into the mix.
