I love how you referred to Classic Doctor Who (1963-1989, 1996) as Showa Doctor Who and Modern Doctor Who (2005-present) as Heisei Doctor Who. Happy to see you getting into this wonderful show!

From a historical standpoint, Showa Doctor Who would be 1963 to 1988 with a few 1989 episodes and Heisei would be 1989 to 2018 with a few 2019 episodes.

On the note of Doctor Who, I recently got the Season 15 (1977/78) Collection blu ray set. Those sets are the most gorgeous things that have ever been made, expensive, but gorgeous. They've got updated special effects for a lot of the stories, optional as it should be, 5.1 surround sound for some stories, extended versions, omnibus versions, commentaries, making of documentaries, as well as most of the special features from the original dvd releases, and a lovely booklet to boot. They are perhaps a tad too much for most at £55 but it could be worse.

Made worse when you have to backtrack them years after they’ve gone OOP. Some of my sets costed me beyond that price, some lucky finds underneath. They probably make the most comprehensive blu-ray box set series that will ever be.

As a big Doctor who fan, Classic and Nuwho. I do enjoy both, but Classic who is IMO is the best. I own all Doctor who on physical media. Easily 85% of the time, when I reach for a Doctor who to watch its classic who. (Also I feel this is necessary to say, I like classic who better and I started with Nuwho). I feel this is important to say because most Doctor who fans have nostalgia bias and whichever they started with is their favorite. Same with whatever Doctor they saw first is always everyone’s favorite. I do not have these nostalgia bias or childhood memory bias. When I started watching I was 22 and started with Matt Smiths first episode. Patrick Troughton the second doctor is my favorite. I do enjoy and love both Classic and Nuwho, but Classic who is something special!

Hope you’re good at Amazon price catching or got a Barnes and Noble loyalty plan if you get into Classic (or Showa) Doctor Who, those sets are pricey and they’ve gone through 13 or 14 of the original 26 seasons so far!

Love seeing people get into Doctor Who. I’ve been a fan since I was 8 and used to watch classic episode re-runs on an old British TV channel and then the year after I got into the show, it came back with Christopher Eccleston. Love those US sets I wish we got sets like that for each Doctor, we have had some awesome sets over here but the only book style set we had was the regeneration set. We do however have the gorgeous collection Boxsets which they’ve been doing for the classic era and if you’re able to get them they’re very much worth it! You’ve picked the right time to get into the show it’s never been as widely accessible as it has been with this new Disney+ era. Looking forward to seeing your Doctor Who collection grow!

I know it's a little point but the Proms mentioned is the 2013 music concert obviously being DW themed but they have been going on since 1895 and the BBC has been broadcasting them since 1927 which is just crazy to think about.

I’m very excited that you’re getting started on Doctor Who because that’s yet another thing I can add to our common interests just like Digimon, Tokusatsu, Sonic, Power Rangers, Gundam, and potentially Yugioh (I’m still having a hard time understanding your track record with Yugioh based on your consistent dvd spines video from ages ago (that’s what it feels like)

My Yu-Gi-Oh track record is that I’ve watched the first three shows dubbed, and part of Zexal and Vrains. After seeing 5Ds dubbed, I went and watched it subbed and then tried to go back to watch the undubbed part of GX and just wasn’t feeling it. Which made me realize 5Ds was definitely peak YGO for me. I don’t play the card game much beyond Synchro summoning as well. I do really enjoy the original manga.

@@Soundout12 that’s fair, me personally I find every Yugioh enjoyable in some way, I own Seasons 1,2,3,5 of the original, Season 1 of Gx and 5d’s, and all of Arc-v, at this point I’m tempted to get a region free player because Season 4 of the original, Seasons 2 and 3 of Gx, Season 2 of 5d’s, and all of Zexal are unavailable in region 1, but somewhat available in other regions

Having owned that Collector's Box Set of Who, I am somewhat tempted to track down the other releases because the packaging is *awful* on these. They double stack the earlier discs and for whatever reason, didn't just give us individual cases season by season. Definitely do recommend that David Tennant Collection, it's a very good value.

As a fan of the DCEU, I am sad to see it go and kind of end on a wet fart. I liked most of the movies but I think one of the big problems for the franchise was when they ditched the shared universe concept because each time I saw one of those movies, I was always looking forward to what will happen next and what the next big event film was which sadly we never got. I liked both Aquaman and The Flash but either film as the end for the DCEU, they ended on a wet fart. That and I wish someone would leak the cut scenes we missed out on like Cavill’s Clark Kent in The Flash or Ben’s Batman in Aquaman 2.

@@Soundout12 Shazam was great but then we had a directionless shared universe. The ironic part is last year, the worst year for the DCEU for the most part, was the year with the most references and nods to having a shared universe. I mean we had the big 3 return again…. Only to be recasted.

One release I did pick up was the Cowboy Bebop 25th Anniversary Blu-ray set which is a pretty good release with a good chunk of bonus features, one thing I wish was included was the Knocking on Heaven's Door movie but I understand why, maybe one day it'll get a BD release hopefully a 4K release

I would stop at the 12th doctor, has the show when downhill, it when woke and the changed original origin of the doctor. Now, the 14th doctor is so woke it will make you sick, go back to the classics
